View Full Version : What are the odds of one final album?

What the title says basically. I don't know what any of the Eagles themselves have said about this, but it got me thinking when I realised that Joe and Glenn have both put out albums in the last couple of years. I'm inclined to think 'No' as it would seem a bit odd to do a history documentary and (presumably) world tour then go and add another bit to their history and presumably tour again, plus they aren't getting any younger; but they all seem to have such a passion and energy for what they do that it wouldn't surprise me if they took it to the limit just for one final time.

Thoughts?

Okay tlr - I'll pike in here for what it's worth. First, I'll preface everything I say with 'never say never'. After following these guys for over 40 years, if I've learned anything at all about them, it's that they are unpredictable. My gut feeling says that we've already gotten our final album from them as a band, but there is more solo work ahead. I hope I'm very wrong about this, but, as you said, the HOTE seems to be a final chapter. I'm also in hopes that we will get a DVD of this tour at some point. It still seems very odd to me that they did not include a single song from LROOE in the setlist for this tour. Maybe they will remedy that later in the tour or maybe they will do another album and we'll have a History of the Eagles sequel. In addition, I wonder what's happening with the Hotel California Broadway show? When I was in NYC, Henley Honey and were discussing Glenn's comment at one of the MSG shows that he had been living in NYC for the past year. We wondered if that could have anything to do with this?

Oh well, I guess we'll get the answers to all of this when they want us to! :hmm:

And let's not forget that Timothy bought a place in NYC this year...

I wish, but I guess not. Maybe we'll get some solo ones though.

I'm also puzzled that they left LROOE out of the History tour setlist.

But like dreamer said, we'll find out when they want us to!

I wouldn't bet on it but I think it's more likely now than it even was ten years ago because of what you said about members putting out solo work for the first time in decades, says to me they're feeling creative.

OH AND DON HENLEY NEEDS TO PUT OUT HIS SOLO ALBUM NOW

Sorry, had to add that, still waiting!!!!!

I'm pretty sure I was planning on giving Don's new album to my mother for Christmas LAST year!

Dreamer, I'm so hoping that if they do put out a DVD of the HOTE concert(s), it also comes with an audio CD, similar to what LZ did with Celebration Day. I want to be able to hear it while driving or whatever, and I don't want to have to take the convoluted path of ripping the audio from a DTS format and then having inferior sound quality.

Anyway, I think the odds of a final album of new music are slim and none. I'll keep hoping and hoping, though.

You know, Fleetwood Mac released a few songs digitally when they couldn't get their act together enough to make a full album last year. It's possible the Eagles could go that route, too; after all, they're both managed by Azoff.

I gasped when I saw the title of this thread!...I'm not going to handle them retiring very well I'm afraid...I can only hope and pray that we hear more new music from our favorite men!

Totally agree! There will be a void on this earth when they retire. However, they do deserve to retire when they choose.

Yeah I too do not even want to think about them retiring- for me, anyway, part of it comes from the fact that I don't want to admit to or give in to the fact that I too am getting older and the Eagles have really been in my life since the 1970's-- thinking that was 40 some years ago is so weird because it feels like it was last week.

As Soda mentioned about Fleetwood Mac, I think the Eagles may not do a whole album but may release a few new songs in time to come.

Even a few new songs would be great!! I really love Long Road Out of Eden and am a little sad they are not performing any of the songs on this tour.

I am mostly upset at myself for not "rediscovering" them sooner--loved them in the 70's, then life and school got in the way, and here I am at what is likely the end of their careers. But am determined to enjoy every minute!

Don't feel bad, Deb. I just started loving their music like a few years ago even though I didn't know about their until HFO. I hate I wasn't around in the 70s. I always say I was born in the wrong decade because all of my favorite groups and singers are from the 70s. Their either are not together anymore or I don't see them coming to my state. I really hope I can try to go to New Orleans in February. Its just so hard when you can't afford the tickets.

It would be nice to have one more album or them doing like Fleetwood Mac did. Record a few songs and put that out. I hope I get to see before they really throw in the towel.

I hope you get to see them too!! I agree the tickets are hard to afford--really went over budget to buy them for March, because I was afraid they would not come back! Good luck to you!

Heck, Don can't even get out Cass County in a timely fashion! :p
(Just teasing, please don't hurt me Don!)

There's that quote in the Wiki from Timothy about how it was so difficult to make Eden so I'm guessing that they're done with all that. I also think it's rather telling that Glenn chose to record a standards album - which I really like (because I love that kind of music), it's so swoon-y - but it sort of all points to the same consideration of cultural relevance. Anyway, it is great that they're still touring so people can have closure for when it is time to bow out.

I see what you're saying, but I still hold out hope. I'm just not holding my breath.

Don't even get me started on how long Don has been keeping us waiting on Cass County! That thing better be freaking brilliant after all this time!
