View Full Version : ALTERNATE LYRICS TO TEQUILA SUNRISE?

This is a test of trivia (and memory), and hopefully some of the old timers will be able to help. In the mid 70's, ABC had a TV series called "In Concert." The "On the Border" era Eagles appeared on that show. Anyway, when Glenn did "Tequila Sunrise," he threw in an extra verse:

"Guess I'll go down to Mexico,
Where the livin's nice and slow,
There's no one there I know.
It's another Tequila Sunrise,
.................................
................................."

This is where the trail goes cold. I've threatened to play that extra verse at my gigs and never got around to it, and I've misplaced the sheet I had written the additional lyrics on.

I'd be grateful to anyone who can help...

Don't know if I'm growin' wise,
Or tellin' lies

(I think!)

Sounds right. Darn, that was quick! Thanks!

Nope - just those that I'm aware of. Simon & Garfunkel did something similar with "The Boxer."

"Now the years are rollin' by me,
They are rockin' evenly,
I am older than I once was,
and younger than I'll be that's not unusual,
No it isn't strange.
After changes upon changes
We are more or less the same,
After changes we are more or less the same.
Lie-la lie, etc."

I don't know how precise you want to be - those lyrics work fine - but I think he actually sings

I think I'll go to Mexico
Somewhere where the pace of life is slow
And there's no one there I know
It's another tequila sunrise
Wondering' if I'm growing wise
Or telling lies

Of course he probably changed it up a little from show to show and I might have heard wrong.

Wow - that sounds even more accurate. Thanks, sodascouts.

You’ll have to forgive me; it’s been almost 40 years! I was watching the show, hanging on every note, and scribbled down the lyrics on a small piece of note paper. Can you believe I’ve carried that note in the compartment of my guitar case for 38 years? Who does that kind of stuff?! Also carry a good luck charm my now 27 year old son gave me when he was 5 – a “lucky beetle” – a little black rubber bug he got out of a gumball machine. I treasure that and keep it in a little plastic case. He told me, “Daddy, if you have this lucky beetle in your guitar case you’ll never play bad.” I think he was thinking of the Beatles, but it doesn’t matter.

I wonder if any of those “In Concert” shows is available on youTube? There were some great acts on there. I also would love to see a Hollywood Palace they did @ the time of “Desperado.” Usually this was like a variety show with a host who introduced the guest performers.

This night it was different - just the Eagles, Jackson Browne, and Linda Ronstadt playing wall-to-wall music. It was like Asylum Records night. No audience, not one word spoken. It was kind of like the forerunner of music videos. They showed part of the Agoura shootout film. I’d LOVE to see that again.

Sounds a bit like Kirshner's Rock Concert (haven't got a clue how you spell it, sorry!). That was from the On the Border era literally just after Felder had joined. Linda joined them for 4 songs and Jackson 3 (both did two solo pieces then the rest with the Eagles). Does that sound anything like what you're thinking of? There's still a few songs from it available to download as videos from the EaglesOnlineCentral website (Ol' 55, Midnight Flyer and Twenty One and perhaps a couple more); and the bootleg Earlybirds DVD covers all of it, plus a gig from the Netherlands in 1973 and the BBC 1973 concert.

(Sorry for the info overload if it isn't!)

Edit - there was some of the wonderful Desperado shootout footage shown as they sang the Doolin-Dalton / Desperado Repirse on that show, and I don't remember any audience interaction despite there being one there.

No such thing as info overload where the Eagles are concerned – lol!

I remember Kirschner’s Rock Concert series too. I’m going to have to a little poking around; I’d love to see all of those. I’m pretty sure Hollywood Palace was where I saw the shootout footage – but like I said, it’s been almost 40 years! :nahnah:

Tequila Sunrise with additional verse:

I hadn't seen this one before, so thanks for giving me a reason to look.

Anyone know the occasion and date? I'm guessing late 1973 as Glenn's hair is longer than for the 1973 BBC concert.

This version appears to be from 1977 and in Texas. It also has the extra verse.

Oh, wow! I love both of those! I don't know the date, but Glenn looks so mellow (and slightly stoned!) in that first one! Well, he looks stoned in both of them and his voice sounds so darn young! Of course, he was! He sounds so sweet and smooth too! Yup, I like! :smitten:

Thanks UtW!

My favourite Glenn look!

He messes up slightly in the second one - see if you can spot it.

I have watched that version many, many times over the years, it's one of my favourite performances. Of course I noticed Glenn's mistake the first time I watched it. Love that 3rd verse of TS. I'll let someone. Who hasn't seen it so many times. Tell what he does wrong.
