I've been following this story and it looks like this might be terrorism. I feel so sorry for the families of those on the plane. I can't imagine how difficult this must be for them.

I am also at a loss about it. The Australian air force is now assisting in the search. The current focus seems to be on the behaviour of one of the pilots.

I've been following it too. How very strange. I think the pilots had to be, somehow, involved too.

I do believe this airplane is sitting in a hanger somewhere. Unfortunately I have a bad feeling for the passangers. I am convinced it's terrorism and the plane will be flown somewhere probably full of explosives.
God Bless all the souls on board and their families.

The coverage is morbidly fascinating as new info comes out, but in between breaking news, the 24-hour news networks tend to get a bit desperate for material. I keep seeing news channels beg people to tweet their theories, then they "report" on the tweets of their viewers! Seriously?! That is what passes for news now?!

I agree...not very interesting/informative and no real facts. Just a bunch of people guessing.

I know! The authorities can't figure it out so they are asking the public what they think for news? :hilarious:

Yes - and AIRING tweets like "I think it's alien abduction" and "Maybe God took the plane"!

Looks like they MIGHT have found something close to Perth, Australia.

My brother has been an air traffic controller for 20 years. His theory is as follows

There was a very sudden serious loss in cabin pressure. Some oxygen masks may have dropped but these were inadequate for the level of oxygen required. This happened in a 2009 Air France plane disaster in the South Atlantic.

Lack of/ inadequate supply of oxygen would kill all crew and passengers within as little as one minute.

In a panic the pilot and/ or copilot May have disabled communications systems ( apparently this has been known to happen).

The plane would have been on a set course and could fly on (with everyone on board dead) until eventually it ran out of fuel and ditched in the ocean or some remote and area. No fuel meant no smoke or fire either!

Kinda macabre, a plane full of dead people flying like that, but apparently it can happen. I hope there is a definite conclusion for the sake of the families and friends of the occupants.

This is exactly what happened with golfer Payne Stewart's plane. It was a smaller plane (Lear jet with professional pilots and 4 or 5 passengers) and military jets intercepted and escorted it until it crashed in an uninhabited area of the US (South Dakota). If it had been headed towards a more populated area they would have had to shoot it down. It flew over the US for at least two hours with nobody at the controls. Crazy. And sad. The only good thing is that the passengers didn't have to deal with the terror or hijackers or knowing they're going to crash. I think you sort of just pass out. It's all bad, though.

Looks like some kind of flight data has confirmed that it has crashed in to the Indian Ocean:

I heard on the news about what they found in the Indian Ocean. Round pieces of debris have shown up on radar. Authorities say Round means airplane fuselage.
I honestly hope they do find it there, because to actually have anything else such as terrorism happen would just be horrible. :-(

I'm glad the families have closure at least, but it's so tragic.

Side note - did you see the airline notified the families via a generic multiple-recipient TEXT MESSAGE?!

Lame! Couldn't they have called everyone in to a conference or something rather than a cold text message?

At least they attempted to personalise it; a conference would have been even colder in my opinion.

And DJ, its tragic regardless of how it happened. It is no less tragic because it didn't involve terrorism.

Or at least made a voice call..... Or send a rep to as many people as possible?
