First review ... with photos. Alas, no Bernie again but this was another outdoor venue and it doesn't appear they did the HOTE show. You'll need to use Google Translate...

Here's a review (http://www.lagazzettadilucca.it/cultura-e-spettacolo/2014/07/eagles-un-emozione-senza-tempo/) that translates well (https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=it&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.lagazzettadilucca.it%2Fcultura-e-spettacolo%2F2014%2F07%2Feagles-un-emozione-senza-tempo%2F&edit-text=). "Uplifting", "Good for the soul".

Here's the setlist for Italy. Its the same as the Germany show, but they added Those Shoes. I just wish they would add HL to the setlist instead when they have to shorten their setlist and not do the HOTE setlist.

Based on what I've read about this show, it was not the HOTE setlist and Bernie was again conspicuously absent. How they can represent it as an "HOTE" if they aren't actually DOING that specific show? Such a disappointment although I have absolutely no doubt the folks who attended were thrilled just to see them live. My thought on this is that it may be difficult to clearly hear/understand a lot of dialogue in an outdoor venue so they've chosen to present a more standard show. I've seen a few comments on other sites that have reflected dissatisfaction from attendees. Heartbreaking to say the least. Anyone else have thoughts on this?

On the flip side, they've been on the road for 7 weeks and are surely tired and eager to get home and enjoy the break.

OMG Timothy's tight black pants - have we seen those before??

Must have been CriCriChan or Irga taking the video :)

And why no spot light on Joe???

Don sounds great.

To all that might be interested... :-) I'm still in Lucca, recovering from the difficult case of Post-Eaglesconcert-Withdrawal, or whatever the name of this condition is. I'll write more when I'm back home (Monday), as now I'm on my mobile. Few things for now: the setlist was shortened :brickwall:, Glenn sounded little weak in the beginning, but with time got much better, Timothy sung ONLY ONE SONG, ICTYW, Don was very good vocally, but the show belonged to Joe. He was fantastic. I managed to record Timmy and will upload it on YouTube as soon as I get home. In general, I got an impression that the boys were already thinking about going back home and wanted to finish the show quickly. Nevertheless it was very professional and well done, and the audience was delighted.
Oh, and I met Cricrichan!!! She's one of the sweetest persons I know, and surely my favorite Italian Eagles fan :-)

Here’s another photo. The Eagles were given a bottle of Italian wine each as a gift. The bottles are on the ground in front of them. The photo was probably taken before the concert.

Great pic, SM, thanks! Those are the clothes they were wearing during the show! Too funny to think they just get dressed in the hotel and are shuttled to the venue - no dressing rooms at the outdoor festival, hair and makeup done in the hotel I guess. Who says they don't see each other until they walk on stage!!

ETA: Wish I could tell what's on Timothy's vest. Tell me it's not his monitor already hooked up!! Doesn't it look like when the monitor is out, that's right where it falls.

Yep, MC. It's his ear thingy. It looks like Glenn and Don have there's out of their ear too. This might was taken either before they went on stage or after. Probably after.

Hello, my name is Silvia and I haven't posted much in recent times but I just wanted to tell you that, at last, I managed to see the Eagles live in Lucca.
Of course it was a great emotion for me but I was also disappointed about the short setlist and the general organisation of the event. I expected a 3 hours' show but it lasted just about 1:40 hours....
Anyway, being a Don Henley fan, I can tell you that he was in very good shape!

So ... let's start with my review! I was in front of the gates at 7 PM and the concert was supposed to start at 9 ... oh, it was already so crowded, hundreds of people were already there, holding their tickets in their hands. The gate opened at 7.40, so we could go and take place. I was in the 5th row, on the left of the stage, good seat in my opinion, just in front of Timothy :D Oh my goodness, my hands were shaking all the time and I felt so excited and nervous because I couldn't wait for the concert to start!!!!

The guys of the security staff told us we couldn't take any pics/videos during the concert but eventually everybody took them ... !!! The concert started at 9.20 and when the guys started with "How Long" I was so very happy because it's one of my favorite songs ... but at the same time I knew they weren't going to play the HOTE setlist, even because Bernie wasn't there :(

Anyway, the concert was a success, in my opinion the boys all were in good shape, especially Joe, but to be honest I couldn't take my eyes off Timothy for the most part of the show  LOL!!! I don't know how to explain the feeling ... I thought to be in a dream ... it all seemed so strange and surreal and when the concert ended it was like the dream was over ... oh, it was such a beautiful experience and I will never forget it!!!

I'm going to upload some pics I got to take, I'm sorry they aren't good because my camera is not a professional one ... most of them are blurry because it was too dark to take good ones without a good camera

Lovely review Cricichan, and I know exactly how you feel watching the Eagles. Coz I feel exactly the same. For you it's Timothy, for me Glenn  . It's so hard to put into words. I'm glad you enjoyed it so much but sorry Bernie wasn't there. I'm really getting to like his part in the HOTE (not that I ever didn't if you understand!!). Thank you for taking the photos too. They are fantastic!

I hope the Eagles DO make it back to Europe at some stage.

Hi,

I'm a "new kid in town", my name's Nicola and, of course, I'm italian. The Lucca 2014 was my 4th Eagles concert after Lucca 2001, Munich 2006 and Verona 2006. And what can I say. It was technically perfect, all the guys were in great shape, expecially Jo and Don in my opinion, but...

But since the first song I understood something was wrong: no Bernie. Then the concert continued without Doolin' dalton, the reprises and the other song I desperately wanted to hear.

Darn!

The concert was great, but too short: only 17 songs... I really don't know why! Can anyone tell me why?
Perhaps the guys had to start singing "How short" instead of "How long".:-(
Still, hail to the Eagles!

Hi, Niklas! Welcome to The Border!

Sometimes for festivals, especially outdoors, and especially if there are other bands playing, they revert to an older setlist (or nearly so) and definitely shorter. There could be lots of reasons for it, the planners could have constraints on time, money, or both. Plus, when this tour wraps up, I'm sure all future Eagles concerts will be the same. So I'm hoping the tour never wraps up!

All that being said, if a particular show isn't going to be a History show, it should not be advertised as such. It's very unfair, and I'm not sure who is at fault for this, but I will say that the responsibility ultimately resides with the band and their management. If they provide promotional materials and something else is used, that's one thing, but they could always distinguish it on their website and Facebook page and have not. So, I'm very sorry you were expecting something and didn't get it. The upside is that any show they put on is always a good one.

Slowly coming to terms with harsh reality: I'm back home from our dream-like adventure in Tuscany, with its highlight being the Eagles concert in Lucca.
As Cricrichan has already stated, "a dream" is the best word that could describe that day. It was hot and sunny, the stage looked so beautiful among the old, historic and majestic builidngs and old trees of Piazza Napoleone; being there already 5 hours before the concert, I felt butterflies in my stomach, expecting great things to happen.
The first notes of "How Long", when Timothy, Glenn, Don and Joe finally entered the stage, just confirmed my earlier fears that Lucca might be another place where Eagles would play it short. Quickly, I made up my mind and decided to be happy with what I got, and even the weak version of TITTL, with no word about Randy, didn't manage to change it. Then came Tequila Sunrise, romantic, smooth and perfectly sung, and after that, when I noticed Glenn taking a seat behind a keybord, I just grabbed my mobile and whith shaky hands started to record the song that had made me travel by car through half of Europe... ICTYW was perfectly done, just like I wanted it to be, Timothy's voice strong and sweet - and I just melted there, with my hand up high, trying to catch as much as I could.
The other song that made a huge impression on me was "Those Shoes", with a video that showed it all. It cut me to the quick and suddenly I realized that some songs seem much better when you hear them live. Although I've found that true during all the U2 concerts I've seen, in case of Eagles it was kind of a surprise for me.
Joe. He was a real star of the show. Bursting with energy and humor, singing in a strong voice, engaging the audience, he was the right person in a right place there.
As for technicalities: I was standing just behind the last row of seats, so I could see the stage quite well. Big screens behind the boys and on both sides of the stage were very helpful. Sound people did their job quite well, both my husband and me were afraid that the surrounding buildings might play tricks with the echo. Luckily, everything was fine.
Funny thing about the audience: people seemed confused about the "sitting rule", and sometimes you could see some of them jumping up from their seats, and then quickly sitting down - unless Timothy made gestures that encouraged them to stand up and dance, and sing, and clap their hands. Right behind me there were two Italian women and a man who were great at singing all the songs - they even did harmonies! Fortunately you can't hear that during ICTYW that I recorded :-)
The last note of Desperado made it clear the show was over.
The dream continues, though... :-)
Beautiful time.:partytime:

You are right. I know the Eagles are great musicians and a very professional group, so the responsibility I guess resides in the organizers, D'alessandro & Galli who built up the Lucca Summer Festival.

Anybody of you know about an upcoming DVD of this tour? I think it whoul'd be the only way I have to see Bernie Leadon with the other guys.

When the first show with the short setlist was reported, I desperately hoped there was some mistake. Too bad that's not the case. I can understand a shortened setlist for festivals, but they should tell people that they're getting a SEVERELY truncated version of the show that won't include most of the special aspects that have characterized the HOTE tour (rarities, Bernie's presence, etc).

But I don't want to be a Negative Nancy. ;) You guys enjoyed yourselves; the Eagles put on a good show. That's what's important.

And these videos and photos are fantastic! Thank you for these and for sharing your experiences as well.

I see you've been busy, Austin!

They did a different, shorter set in Italy and Germany that included "Dirty Laundry" but sadly left out many of the best parts of the HOTE tour. :(

:(

I'm glad I saw them when I did. Hearing songs like Those Shoes and Already Gone made it really special for me.

Here's Glenn's and Joe's guitar duo before Funk 49. This is so funny. You even hear a little of Walk Away.

Cricrichan, did Timothy really thank the audience in Italian? How nice of him! I would have loved to hear that!

And thank you for the review and the photos!

Oh yes, he did! It really was so nice of him!!! :yay:

Interesting that two of the songs were apparently undecided when that list was printed! I wonder what they mean by the "old version" of Peaceful Easy Feeling?

Maybe they mean "original" version? That's funny. Yeah, at what point do they decide which they're going to play? When Don hits the drums?:)

Very cool, CC, thanks!! I haven't seen the festival set list in writing, it is quite a bit shorter, 10 or 11 songs? :( Surprised TS makes it into that list, and RMW just doesn't deserve 2nd to last song in my opinion. I know others will feel differently, no offense intended - just making some initial observations. But, How Long!!!! sigh...
