This is a fun little exercise I've seen elsewhere, like Fleetwood Mac forums. You give two choices - "this" or "that" - that are related to the Eagles. They can be songs, albums, clothing choices, hairstyles, you name it! It just has to be relevant to the Eagles or a member of the Eagles.

The next person chooses the one that they prefer, then provides their own two for the next person to choose from. If you want to add a brief explanation as to your choice, you can, but it's not required. However, the explanation aspect elevates it from a simple game to more of a discussion.

Remember, always add your own "this" or "that" choice after you answer the previous post!

Example:

PERSON 1:

Long Run album or Long Road Out of Eden album

PERSON 2:

Long Road Out of Eden - I just think it's more consistent.

-----------

Jackson Browne as a co-writer or JD Souther as a co-writer?

PERSON 3

JD Souther - he's done more with them and it's almost all great

-----------

"Turn to Stone" live with the Eagles or "Funk 49" live with the Eagles

etc., etc.

~~~~~~~
It's meant to be fairly light-hearted. I'll get it started in the next post.
Oh, I thought that was optional. OK, um, back cover of Eagles (non-gatefold) or back cover of One of These Nights?
Hotel California as opener or encore?
Encore because most singers and bands signature songs are usually at the end.
Clean shaving Don or goatee Don.
Randy. I don't mind Glenn singing it in all honesty but that note at the end Randy pulled off is heavenly.
Best of My Love or Lyin' Eyes harmonies?
(Brilliant idea btw Soda!)
shunlvswx
That's hard. Both songs have great harmonies. I went back to listen to both songs and I'm going to say Lyin' Eyes.
Acoustic version of Heart Of the Matter or album version of Heart of the Matter
Bassist - Timothy or Randy? (ooohh - them's fightin' words! haha)
Glenn with long hair or short hair?
Glenn's long hair and Mexican-esque mustache was my favourite of any members' looks in the 1970s, so that. He didn't look right in The Long Run ;)
------------------
Waltz speed songs (TITTL, Saturday Night etc) or hard rockers like James Dean and Life in the Fast Lane?
Freypower
Such heresy, TLR. :twisted:
I prefer James Dean/LITFL to the waltz tempo songs.
---------------------------------
Glyn Johns or Bill Szymczyk?
Victim of Love
Both were very instrumental in the success of the band but I'd have to go with Bill Szymczyk.
This is hard. I'm going to say Don of yore. I'm really not a fan of 70s look Don had. Maybe because I was born the same year they broke up. LOL I would say current Don, but what made me go with the other picture is I don't like the white goatee look. If it was dye, I might had liked it.
Don Felder's look: HFO Don or Current Don.
Ive always been a dreamer
08-08-2014, 08:18 PM
I to this day have absolutely no idea what TGDWNF is about but I love the groove to it.
tlr - I believe the 'Greeks' in the song references fraternities and sororities. Their traditions go back to ancient Greece and they even use Greek letters for their names. They are based on brotherhood and sisterhood and initiation into their 'club' is by invitation only. This exclusionary practice ensures there are no outsiders or 'freaks'.
sodascouts
08-09-2014, 12:01 AM
I guess current Don Felder, although my fave era for him is the 70s. It's close, though. He looks more natural in HFO, but he's got a few extra pounds.
Best Eagle-inspired song: Stevie Nicks' "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything for You" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOy7M9PPhWg) or Joni Mitchell's "Car on a Hill" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oau4rvDtuOY)?
Shun, to answer your question from F1 until now Don has been down the front for Desperado. It does nothing for me. I feel it puts the focus far too much on him when the whole band should be showcased.
To answer yours I like the guitar duet in Funk #49 because Glenn so rarely gets to do any distinctive guitar work.
Glenn's clothes: overshirt & T shirt or jacket & shirt?
I've often wondered that re: Desperado too. I don't like to see the guys negate to do something for one of the backing musicians to fill in, e.g. drums on Desperado, keyboard on NKIT. Anyway...
I think the further you get into the Eagles' 70s discography the more Glenn suits the formal look but I personally prefer him with T-shirt and a loose one over it, like the second half of F1.
Thanks FP. I hate that Don doesn't play drums on a lot of songs, but he probably doing that to give his back a break. So I understand that if that's the reason. Now Glenn. I would love to see him on the keys or half and half like he did for years. I'm just glad he hasn't given up playing keys on ICTYW. Even Joe isn't on the organ that much. It was cool to see him on the keys on NKIT in the HOTE DVD concert. Too bad he doesn't do that anymore either.
Best of my love - its always good to end on a high note...
Don's p*ssed off about news and tv songs: Dirty Laundry or Get Over It.
thelastresort
Dirty Laundry - I think GOI is aimed at society more in general, but Dirty Laundry is a perfect deconstruction of just about everything that is wrong with the media on both sides of the spectrum.
Linda Ronstadt's Desperado or Don's version
Which off-the-wall song would you like to hear the group cover:
Sorry to disappoint you TLR, but I really do not like your namesake :( It's one of the few songs by our guys that I don't like. We've talked about this song on another thread, so I won't go into it. No offense :)
The Long Run - whilst the big hits have grown on me the fillers are dire and I'm glad they called it a day when they did on the basis of the album. LROOE could have done with being shorter though.
Dirty Laundry or ASWTDID?
Dirty Laundry definitely. I don't know but I really don't like ASWTDID ~ sorry Don!!! I skip it on the CD everytime though I have to admit it comes across much better live and gets the crowd going. I loved Glenn's dancing in F1 but that refrain drives me mad.
Waiting in the weeds - but only just!! Don sounds so grown up and soulful in WITW
Oh Lord, this is realy hard - I love them both!!! But if I had to choose the sadder song, then I'd pick Talking to the Moon because Lilah's melody is a little bit more upbeat but they both kick you in the solar plexus, don't they?? (isn't ICSS brilliant?)
Videos with Glenn's wives in them: Smuggler's Blues or River of Dreams.
Ah, I didn't describe it best I suppose, but TBS used to order the lights up on various sections of the audience before LWKUA so they got a chance to see everyone. This may not have happened everywhere, as I note from some YT videos Joe never had the helmet on for some shows in the States.
DivineDon
08-16-2014, 09:24 AM
Don forgetting the words to WT, Don laughing at Don F in Tequila Sunrise, Don F/Joe walking around the stage in LBG, Joe/Don F having fun in Dirty Laundry when they do their solos on the line kick it when you're up, kick it when you're down. So many to name. I love watching that DVD.
OK. So I went to listen to Garth's version of It Don't Matter to the Sun on YouTube since I've never heard Garth sing this song before even though I heard it was Garth's version. but I found out he sang it as Chris Gaines. That explain why I never heard of it. Good ole Chris Gaines. :hilarious:
I've heard both Don's version of both songs, I'm going to pick It Don't Matter To The Sun. I actually like Don's version than Garth's. Don does some great acoustic songs.
Nobody Else In The World But You because of the presence of Glenn & Stevie Wonder. IWNGQ 'tries too hard' in my opinion.
I thought the 'Miami' joke may have had something to do with the introduction to the Millennium version of Please Come Home For Christmas? He says they were recording in Miami with all the sunshine & they missed home in California.... with all the sunshine. But he does remember Miami there. I do think it's a good idea when playing this game to keep the clues fairly specific.
I thought the Miami joke referred to Don's introduction in the HOTE concert when he's talking about The Long Run and the fact that they were all so 'high' and 'out of it', (though he doesn't actually say that specifically) - that they don't remember much about it except to was A Long One. I'm open to corrections however...
I love Don's introduction to Please Come Home For Christmas, he's funny and his speaking voice is so sexy and I love him singing that song even out of season! He sounds so soulful in it :sigh:
