This is not really a review, so I hope it is okay to post here.
I just wanted to share a bit of my experience from the show last night in Tacoma.
To start off, this was my first time seeing the band. I am 29 and I grew up with my mom always playing their music. I had taken off work and purchased a ticket for the LONG ROAD tour in Seattle in 2010 when at the last minute the show was cancelled due to illness, and I wasn't able to make it to the new date, and then I was in Korea last year when the tour stopped in Seattle, so I was unable to make it then. Although it is a bit of a pain to get to Tacoma from Seattle in the late afternoon during the weekday, I knew I couldn't pass up the chance to see the tour this time.
I see A LOT of concerts, and I almost always purchase the cheapest seats so I am able to see more shows, but there was only one single seat left in the nosebleeds, for a total of about $65 with fees. I wanted to take my mom for her birthday which was this past sunday, so I ended up purchasing two tickets on STUB HUB for $45 each including fees, which was rare that it was actually under face value. I figured since there weren't any of the cheap seats left that the dome had sold all of the seats.
So, we make our way to the dome last night and as soon as our tickets are scanned, we were told that they had given us better seats. We look at our new seats and realize that they moved us to the lower center section, in the 13th row (we had originally been in the 62nd row!). Once we got in, we realized they had the entire nosebleed sections on both sides of the arena curtained off. I was pretty surprised that they would close off so many seats considering how well the band sells. We lucked out, though! A woman near us said that she had paid $200 a seat.
The only weird/annoying experience of the whole thing was right after intermission. There was this woman in front of us who was pretty loud during the entire show, singing/screeching to each song, and while it was quite annoying, I know everyone goes to concerts to have fun, and I try to just make sure I don't annoy people myself with my behavior. Anyways, one man in front of her turned around and screamed at her, "I CAME HERE TO SEE THEM SING, NOT YOU! SHUT THE **** UP." Then, there was a yelling match of obscenities, and from then on out is was this woman's mission to irritate and ruin the experience of that guys entire party by stomping and screaming the entire rest of the concert.
That aside, I was thrilled to finally be able to see the band in person and I really did enjoy the show. :grooving:

Glad to hear you had a great time! I saw them in Liverpool (UK) and a woman in front of me was rather drunk so insisted on singing and standing up to dance at every turn; I think her husband shut her up at the interval  How did you find the performance itself?

Great seat upgrade! Sorry for the obnoxious fan but so glad you had the chance to catch the show. I've got a friend going tomorrow night and I'll be seeing them in Omaha. By the way, welcome to The Border.

Very nice seat upgrade! Congrats on that!
I don't know why people think you came to hear them sing and not the band! Stupid people! Glad you managed to enjoy the show in spite of her!
And welcome!

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone.
I think I was most impressed by how long they played. Although there was a short intermission, it basically went from 8-11:15pm. Most of the young touring artists now rarely go over 2 hours, and I found it to be a real great to hear that much music from them. I also really liked the set design, and really enjoyed a lot of the funny videos they filmed for the tour :)

HI EVERYBODY!
Well...what can I say...I am now officially ruined for life...I will NEVER again be happy with anything other than 2nd Row (or better...) concert seats!
I was at the Tacoma Dome show last night, as some of you know; I just don't know where to begin...I am still in "afterglow" mode and can't really think straight!
I LOVED the VIP package experience and I think it's totally worth the money...(it's unfortunate that it costs SO much money, but still...!) Our host was Helen and she was great! The buffet was very good (even though I'm vegetarian)...it was in a huge room and was very comfortable and had amazing service!
At the concert, I sat in the 2nd Row...It was one of the best nights of my LIFE! The whole experience was SO surreal, I am still awestruck and can't really put into words how fantastic the concert itself was!
I saw the Eagles in Seattle in September and at the Forum in January, and those 2 shows were pretty similar. I'll just tell you that last night's show was definitely different, in terms of the set list and just the staging and feel of it. I will leave it to the more articulate and professional concert-goers to critique the tour as it moves along! I haven't kept up with the more recent reviews, and maybe the show changes have already been discussed...? Of course - bottom line - it was a FANTASTIC show...I'm thinking that a lot of people will like this new (at least to me) set list more than the former ones, so that will be interesting to see!
Here's what I can safely say: In the concert last night, the band was the MOST energetic...the MOST playful (with the audience and with each other)...and the MOST upbeat that I've seen them! It was a very relaxed and fun vibe and they really did seem to be having a blast! (especially Joe!) I know for sure that the crowd was going nuts and loving every minute of the whole night!
On a whiny note: I know that I always complain about the ladies' restroom issue, and last night was no exception...at the (very short) intermission, I stood in line the whole time and had to give up and go back to the concert so that I didn't miss the opening of the 2nd Act!
If I ruled the world, I would include, as part of the VIP package, private men's and women's bathrooms (like the ones that we used during the dinner buffet). If I could use a women's bathroom with no line at ALL during the concert, I would pay EVEN MORE for the tickets (one of my fellow VIP ladies tried to sneak back into the dinner-buffet bathroom last night but got turned away!
BUT, I digress...! Overall...last night was even BETTER than I'd imagined it would be...! Feeling a little sad today that it's over so am already looking forward to the next time - something I know that all of you can easily relate to!
Thanks again for all of good wishes - It really made the whole night so much more special! I will be in afterglow for the foreseeable future! :inlove:

Glad you had a good time. I knew second row would spoil you!!
VA, I'm SO sorry to be so lame! I WISH I could give you guys a complete set rundown, but sitting so close to them blew me away and a lot of the concert is now just this euphoric blur - ha!
Hopefully someone who has been to the earlier 2014 shows will go to see them this time around and be able to describe better what I'm trying to say. There were a couple of songs last night that I vaguely recognized but wasn't familiar with...I don't even know the NAMES of those songs! I'm thinking they were from the early days, but I'm not totally sure. I'm POSITIVE that they weren't part of the other 2 earlier concerts that I saw. (I'm still being vague...this probably isn't helping, is it?!)
One specific difference I DO remember is that Joe sang more last night...he sang Rocky Mountain Way...Funk 49...Life's Been Good to Me So Far...and also Heroes! (not in that order) Plus, it felt to me that they showcased his guitar-playing more, too.
I was talking briefly to the VIP host, Helen, and she mentioned that "they had spent the last 2-3 days in Tacoma for rehearsals"...then we got interrupted so I'm not sure if she meant the whole band was there or not. But it's another reason that I felt they were trying out some new ideas.
I'm excited to hear more comparisons from other people, at the upcoming events! Sorry I can't give you more details...my head was in the clouds (and still is!) :inlove:

It said it's the setlist from the HOTE tour and not necessarily from the show! I'd like to think it meant nothing had changed, but on the other hand, we've had countless newspaper reviews from this tour where the setlist printed was wrong.

Well, Guys, as I said before, I was in an AWESTRUCK state of mind, so it's VERY possible that it all just "seemed" so different this time around, given that I had such great seats on Monday (as opposed to the other 2 shows)!
Also, maybe some of the arrangements were a little different, which is why I didn't recognize some of them...(this happened in the first half of the show)...I'm thinking it involved some of the music from the Desperado album, but - AGAIN! - I'm not as familiar with their music as you guys are!
ONE CORRECTION: (this is my husband's fault, he mixed it up with a David Bowie song): The extra song that I mentioned by Joe Walsh is called "Pretty Maids All In A Row" (not "Heroes")...and, unless I'm totally crazy (not an impossible scenario!)...he DID sing that in Tacoma on Monday, and I don't remember him singing that in the other 2 earlier shows...? Did I get that wrong, too?!
ANYWAY...! Just know that the show is WONDERFUL, whether it's a little mixed-around or not! Same Ted Nugent and Detroit jokes...by the way! :p

They played Pretty Maids... When I saw them in October 2013. I think that's been a part of the set for all of the HOTE tour, but I don't think they had played it for a very long time before that. Thanks for the clarification because I was wracking my brain wondering what Heroes was. :)

Alright. So my second eagles show was another success. I saw the 2013 show in Seattle from row 4 and saw them again Monday from sect 1A row 26 so after seeing the band from up close and personal as well as from an avg joe's perspective I feel I've come full circle. I don't know if any remembers from don felders book but he mentions that don h and Glenn get brighter lights on them during the show. And it was true! Much more obvious from far away.
The setlist was extremely similar to other legs of this tour. Glenn even wore the same shirt from a year ago!
Dons voice sounded sharp and Glenn's was as well.
Timothy was as cool as he's ever been. He crushed lwkua.
Joe entered the stage during witchy woman and that's when the show really took flight. The version of wm played was more of a jam version. Which I loved because you could tell the guys were having fun knowing everyone was going to be surprised to see joe lit up as he rages on his les Paul to start the song.
I felt like Glenn and don spoke more to the audience than they did the last time I saw them which was nice. I loved Glenn's joke "we wrote while don and I were living in a two room apt, separate rooms. Well sometimes the same room" lol
Weird thing though, the first encore consisted of hc and nothing else. Previously they did hc and rmw in the first and then tie desperado to end it. It didn't bug me I just had to wait a little longer to boogie to rmw.
The lack of dancing In the stands made my guest and I spend the last 1/3 of the show behind the floor seating so we could dance and not bug anyone too bad, my moves have been known to enrage. Lol
All in all the boys surpassed my expectations, don't worry they still got it.

These two quotes made my day.:)
Jane B. thank you as well for your thoughtful reviews. I too am a vegetarian, and in a new development, my husband and I aren't drinking, so I was worried that our VIP experience would not be worthwhile. I know the food isn't the same at each venue, but it sounds like the spread was good enough for you to find something you liked. With my husband newly sober and pretty fragile, I'm considering skipping the VIP part altogether. If it is just a big party, that might be hard for him. Maybe get cokes and go right to our seats. What else happens in the VIP part?

MaryCalifornia:
It probably is different at every show, of course, and I wasn't sure what to expect, either, so I'll just tell you about the Tacoma VIP thing:
I'm always just one of "the masses" so it was kind of cool, having our own side entrance and just waltzing into the venue! They searched my purse, and then we just had to show a picture ID (drivers license) and sign in; I met a funny lady, Pam, in line and she said that the September Seattle VIP was unorganized and hectic, but the one on Monday was very calm and smooth; The host was Helen and she was amazing...for example, we were dropped off by cab so she okayed my friends' using our VIP parking spot, no problem at all...she was friendly and funny!
Our buffet was in a huge space and there was Eagles music playing and it was a nice, long food table with chicken and salmon and a few other things for entrees...But also, the vegetarian dishes were really good: a few different salads, sautéed veggies, antipasto, rice, mashed potatoes, breads and rolls (and probably more)...also a huge selection of fancy desserts!
There were coupons for 2 free drinks (beer and wine) and there was also free soda, water and coffee; It was a friendly vibe, but very sedate and laid back...in fact, Pam said her table was stuffy and boring so she moved over with us! It really didn't feel as if people were drinking much, at least no one was loud or carried away!
As we finished eating, they started the raffle and by then my other friends had phoned and were out in the venue bar, so I went out and joined them...my husband stayed at the table for the raffle (didn't win anything) and he picked up our 2 gift bags at 7:15 (concert started at 8:00). Oh, and I forgot that you can also go to the merchandise stand and buy t-shirts and things before it opens to the public, so you avoid the lines.
All in all, I thought it was really nice! I'm reluctant to encourage you to go to yours, since yours might be totally different...?! But if my experience was any indication, I'd say that the drinking thing wasn't a big deal and that you would feel comfortable not drinking, and also you would find a decent selection of food that you would like!
Don't forget, you can always cruise though and check it out and then just leave at any time!
I understand your situation...I was imagining a wild party atmosphere myself! But actually, it was a lot of "kids" (in their 40's) with their parents and sweet groups like that! I'm jealous, just thinking about it...wish I could relive the whole thing again! You'll have a wonderful time, VIP Party or not! Let us know how everything goes! Enjoy, Enjoy!

Thanks again to everyone for the reviews and comments about the show. I'm glad to hear that, once again, the band gave it their all. I have been to several VIP receptions over the years and I usually find them enjoyable. I went to them when they were hosted by both 'I Love All Access' and 'VIP LiveNation', but I haven't been to one hosted by this new company so I can't compare it to the others, although it sounds very similar. I do think my 'I Love All Access' experience was a little better than 'VIP LiveNation', but only slightly.
Re: the setlist for the show, I would be very surprised if they changed anything at this point, but it is certainly possible. According to both those articles that tbsfan posted, they did drop Peaceful Easy Feeling; however, the rest of it seems to be the same. Do any of you remember if they played Peaceful Easy Feeling? And Hotel California has always been by itself as the first encore for this tour. The second encore is Take It Easy, Rocky Mountain Way, and Desperado. Here is a link to the thread with the setlist that is usually performed on this tour:
https://www.eaglesonlinecentral.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4668
There have been a few shows performed with a shortened setlist, but the full-length show setlist has remained unchanged since this tour kicked off in July, 2013.

Actually the Tacoma Weekly review (http://www.tacomaweekly.com/citylife/view/review-they-love-the-ing-eagles/) I posted did say they played Peaceful Easy Feeling.
Bassist Timothy Schmit joined in for “Peaceful Easy Feeling,” a hit for the Eagles in 1972;
I agree that it would be very surprising for them to change the setlist at this point.

MC - you should definitely go if only for a little bit. The very few that I have been to in the past 2 years have been pretty tame and it is a great place to meet other Eagles fans. I don't drink either but have a wonderful time just listening to everyone's concert experiences. If it gets too bad you could always go hang out at the merchandise stand until they start the raffle and give out the gift bags which is at the end of the VIP dinner. Whatever you decide, it will be the beginning of a wonderful night & concert!!

I go to many concerts at Key and the Dome and I have never been to one so strict. I never use my phone to text during a snow, but I always turn my brightness all the way down and have the tour set list on my phone so I can follow along, but I was afraid I was going to get eaten by staff there if I even looked at my phone.

I felt the same about the 2 shows I went to in London back in June. The 'rules' almost spoiled the shows for me too. The atmosphere wasn't like it used to be at Eagles shows.
I also felt that the set list did little to help on the sitting/ standing issue. The set-list didn't 'flow' like it usually does. After the intermission, the audience stood up, then sat down, then stood up again, etc....... and were looking around before they stood up, to check if others were standing; no-one wanted to be the first to stand & get told off by the gestapo.
If anyone reached for their phone, the gestapo jumped up in about 2 seconds. They also seemed to expect us to pass the message along the row to someone sat near the middle - thus disturbing at least half of the people on the row. I wanted to tell them to 's*d off'.
I'm disappointed to hear that they're still holding on to all these 'rules' - they must be aware that the audiences aren't happy about it. The newspaper reviews from the European shows all commented, and, on the whole, not favourably. Still, as long as the Eagles can sell seats & make money, why should they care? and, it seems they don't.
Yes, Steph is a disillusioned, and still-upset-after-two-months, long time Eagles fan.

Thanks Jane and HB!!!! I am going to the San Diego show on October 4. I went to LA forum on January 25 and was 5th row, but it was not VIP - they didn't do VIP for those 6 shows. You can see my report in that thread, it's pretty funny (and manic).

It would be interesting to see what some of the other long-time fans say about the rules situation...I am a relative newcomer to the Eagles fan base...I grew up with their music but lost track of them until recently...
At the first Forum show on 1/15...Glenn was mad that people were dancing during the first couple of songs and he said in a very firm voice: "I'm only going to say this ONCE...!!!" and then went on and requested that people not stand up and block other people "especially during the ballads"! It was like being yelled at by the scary high school Principal! ha! Plus, no one was sure which songs were ballads and which ones weren't, all of the time!
It's tricky...technically they're right, that all of the electronic devices plus having people standing and dancing throughout the show can interfere with others being able to enjoy themselves.
But, it does start to feel restrictive and my husband's analysis is really depressing, he says it's just that they've gotten "old"! (my husband and I are old, too, for the record!)
One woman standing in line in front of me on Monday did say "who do they think they are, banning electronic devices...?!"
I was wondering how other concerts are handled by other big-name groups...a lot of the other concerts I go to are outdoor arenas and they are always looser, but even Steely Dan bans cameras at their outside shows! This might be the new normal, unless enough people complain and/or stop buying tickets...everything comes down to ticket sales, right?!

I think The Eagles are by far, the most restrictive in terms of taking pix.
Having rules about not standing is ridiculous. Rules like that should be posted on the TM buying page so customers understand the experience they are purchasing in more detail. It is not unreasonable for a customer to purchase a ticket with the expectation of being able to stand during the show or check a cell phone for a message. Henley says picture taking and videoing ruins the experience for others. It is true, when a person lifts his camera up the view of others is blocked. I always use a view finder and make a conscious effort to respect the space of others. Later arriving people, seated in front of me, who are confused where their seat are more annoying to me. Next rule will be late arrivals will not be seated until intermission. It's the Eagles prerogative to run the show the way they want to. Too bad they have to be so restrictive.
Steely Dan was not at all restrictive at The Beacon Theatre. I
shot several songs in their entirety. here are the first three from their Royal Scam album played in its entirety:

I am looking forward to the 2 MSG shows I will be attending. Will leave the camera at home. I have plenty of pix of the band and I'll just sit back and take it all in. Hope to see many of you there!

I'm not crazy about some of the band's policies either, but, as a very short person, I do have to say that I appreciate being able to see the show. This band has never really been known to comply with the traditional way of doing things, so maybe they truly are leading the way for the 'new normal' when it come to concert. Maybe, it's me getting old, but I have to say I prefer this a lot more than I do an out-of-control crowd.

I think the key word her should be 'reasonable'. If specific people in the audience are acting in a way which spoils the show for others, then it's right that security should deal with that. If someone next to me or directly in front of me is significantly blocking your view by holding a camera in front of your face, of sitting on the back of their seat etc, then I would speak to them myself.
When I go to a show I expect people to stand & dance some of the time. I'm not very tall, but I usually find that I can move to my left or right a bit to see around someone standing in front of me. I also accept that people like to take photos - myself included, and this is OK. I like to think I'm thoughtful when I take photos, and don't have my camera held up high all the time blocking others' view.
A concert is a leisure activity, a time for people to relax & enjoy themselves, and something to remember afterwards. If the relaxation & enjoyment is taken away by too many rules & gestapo security, then it ceases to be what it was intended to be.
On the subject of other bands rules etc, I mentioned before I think, that when I saw Matchbox Twenty last year it was the exact opposite of an Eagles show....and the atmposhere was great. :yay: We were encouraged to take photos & post them on the band's facebook page, where they have albums set up ready for fans to post their show photos. I know Hell will freeze over before the Eagles are that relaxed about it, but they could loosen up a bit. It may be right that they're becoming grumpy old men!:scowl:
p.s. I think maybe this should be in the other thread. Sorry.

Thank You So Much for the Steely Dan link!
I spent so much on the Eagles VIP tickets, I didn't think I could afford to see Steely Dan this summer (they played 2 nights at Marymoor Park outside of Seattle) and I am still kicking myself for not going anyway! I normally see them every chance that I get - they usually come by once a year!
I love a lot of bands and I really love the Eagles, but Steely Dan has a special spot in my heart, I must admit!
Thanks again for sharing the video! Very nice of you!

Glad to hear that the music was good!
I understand about "the rules" being a downer, and we do discuss it in that other thread linked to above at length. There's always room for more input if anyone would like to visit it and add some additional thoughts.
It sounds like the rest has done them good, though, and they're on their game!
