One of the best shows I EVER saw was on Aug. 4, 1972. The Eagles were on their tour supporting their debut album, and I saw them with Yes and The Edgar Winter Group at the Long Beach Arena.
They were incredibly polished in their performance. I remember that they were called back for 2 encores, and when they finished...the rest of the concert was a letdown.
Edgar Winter was terrific, and Yes was Yes. But the Eagles wiped the stage with those guys on that evening. I would have hated to have followed them after they played. They really should have headlined the show, but "Peaceful Easy Feeling" was just in the process of establishing them as a musical force. I wish I had a recording of that evening!

Did the Eagles used to have a part in their show where they took song requests from the audience? I read a review of a show in England in the 1970s where they did this and it got me curious if that was a standard thing.

No idea but boy do I wish they did that now!

Maybe they did it when they played smaller venues. Can you imagine the bedlam that would ensue if you tried to take requests in a huge arena like they play now - it would just be a cacophony of thousands screeching out their various favorite song.
