100 confirmed dead, just horrible. I've seen this image floating around on Facebook as a supportive gesture to the people affected and the city.

It's terrible that these events are becoming c'est la vie. (Hope my attempt at French makes sense). My thoughts go out to the Parisian people. The thought comes to mind that if it can happen there, it can happen anywhere!

Does the band eagles of death metal which was the band playing have anything in their name to do with eagles? I read that they arent a death metal band and that name is an inside joke.

Not as far as I know.

My thoughts go out to the people of Paris at this horrible time.

ETA: It seems that all 100 hostages at the concert have been killed. I haven't been able to find out if the band members are amongst them.

No they're not a death metal band, more like hard rock/blues rock. Some of my music friends are fans, but I've never listen to them. From the band's Wikipedia article:

Despite their band name, Eagles of Death Metal are not a death metal band. Hughes stated that a friend was introducing Josh Homme to the death metal genre. When he played a song by the Polish band Vader and made a claim that the song was within the death metal genre, Homme then referred to Vader as "The Eagles of Death Metal". After hearing this phrase, he wondered what a cross between the Eagles and a death metal band would sound like

This is the latest on the hostage situation. At least 100 were killed but the band are ok.

Thinking and praying for our European neighbours - what a horrible, senseless act

I just heard an unconfirmed report that several of the terrorists were between the ages of 15 and 18. So much damage done by brainwashed kids.

That's horrible that people would use kids to do something like this.

I just wish that people wouldn't use something like this to spark a political debate.(my fb news feed is flooded with political comments on this) Right/left, conservative/liberal, or republican/democrat(insert other countries' political parties here), does that really matter during a time like this?

I hear you, Kim.

I should add that I've heard another conflicting report about ages, but it's still quite common for them to recruit vulnerable teens.

I was also wondering this, OMNJ. The reason it immediately came to my mind is because of the Foo Fighters' Sonic Highways documentary. The "Los Angeles" episode they filmed out in the desert heavily featured Joe Walsh as well as Josh Homme, lead singer of Queens of the Stone Age and Eagles of Death Metal. There seems to be a close connection between Dave Grohl and Josh Homme and Joe... It's actually pretty hilarious, I can hear them saying, "Yeah, we're like, the Eagles of death metal..."

On my local news and NBC Nightly News, I heard surviviors say that they looked about 20-25 years old. I believe that one of the few identified was about 30.

Has anyone heard about the band's crew members, whether they all made it to safety or not? Last I heard, some were unaccounted for.

How horrible! Thoughts and prayers for Paris!

I hadn't heard about it until Kevin Cronin mentioned it at the REO concert I was at that evening.

And that appears to be the case, the eagles portion of the name is indeed taken from the eagles.

I believe I heard that one of the crew is confirmed missing.
Very very sad situation. Paris is such a beautiful city. Thoughts & prayers are with them all.
When are they/ we going to take some measures to destroy ISIS? Watching them is just not enough. We can't just sit back & let this keep happening.

It's so hard to know how to respond. If even a few people are angry and murderous, they can do SO. MUCH. DAMAGE. Is there really any way this can be eradicated?

They slip through the cracks of our security measures & communicate with cryptic messages. I do think many of them are in their 20's , not young teens as you originally heard. They are sophisticated, manipulative, & DEADLY.
I do want them to ban the Syrian refugees coming into this country, as I feel many of them have no records & appear to be of no threat, but they really are.

I work in an area that is a target & even though there many police, & military around I do not feel safe coming to work everyday. These people pull sneak attacks & when you think they will attack one place, they go into another place & hit. It's very scary. This is a different world we live in today.

Here is the explanation of the name of Eagles of Death Metal -

Apologies - I was able to read the article without logging in, I don't have a subscription. But now I have to log in. Anyway, someone was playing some examples of "death metal" music for Josh Homme, and then played a European (?) band called "Vader" and Homme said, that doesn't sound like death metal, they're like, the Eagles of Death Metal.
