Hi all - Just to stay on topic here, I went ahead and moved the posts about the 'Privacy' video discussion to Jack's thread. Here you go:

And speaking of this topic - I miss you every day, Glenn. You will always be in my heart.

I think of you still all the time Glenn , So sad that you had to leave us so early

It's not just us. Guitarist, Duane Sciacqua, commented on one of Jack Tempchin's posts that he thinks "about that man every day".

Please forgive me because I know this sounds stupid but, who is Duane Sciacqua ? Is he a Country singer ? He called Glenn "cuz" . I have never heard of the guy.:confused:

He was in Glenn's band for many of the solo years. If you've seen video from Japan 1986 or Dublin 1992, he's the guitarist who isn't Glenn or Danny Grenier.

This is for those feeling irritated by the "least talented" comments on comments and on some other message boards. It's from Jack Tempchin

Glenn was just a stand-up guy and he was the funniest guy that I’ve ever met and he had a tremendous range of talents not only musical but people skils: he was kind of like the team captain. He could pick the players, motivate them. He could make a bunch of people into a unit and also what he wanted out of the music, he wanted the best band in the world. He wanted the best singers, best writers, best players. Not everybody has that goal so he went after the right things and he was able to pull off a lot of stuff that other people wouldn’t be able to.

[about Glenn’s contribution to Peaceful Easy Feeling]
I was just a folky guitar-player so I played it but he put the drums in, the bass and the harmonies and they were such that you could feel the desert wind from his arrangement and from the harmonies and from the feeling. They called him the “Lone Arranger” because he had the ability to just dress up a song and make it work.
I know he's not talking about Glenn's singing and playing or even songwriting; instead, he's talking about what makes it all work, whether it's getting the people together or fitting together the different elements of the music.

Yes, and all of that may be true, but because the vast majority of people only see or hear what is directly in front of them they tend to be uninterested in that sort of detail. He was never given sufficient credit for any of those qualities.

What a lovely tribute, thanks for that Dawn.

This from a blog written by Heikki Larsen, who has worked with Jimmy Buffett. Although Larsen never met Glenn, the loss on the "Margaritaville family" was keenly felt. He shares some memories (Jimmy's no doubt) of Glenn.

Like Jimmy, Glenn Frey was a notorious competitor and sports fan. Glenn’s house was next to Jimmy’s in those days and one day Jimmy decided to get satellite tv. When Glenn saw the satellite dish on Jimmy’s house he had one put on his. During this time Glenn was known in town as the Commish because of his dedication to having the best softball team in Aspen. He had the best players in town on his team while Jimmy’s team was made up of players that stayed out all night and showed up for the game with boom boxes and coolers filled with beer. Glenn’s team was called the Werewolves and Jimmy’s team was called the Down Valley Dough Boy. Most times the Werewolves would play their game and then go find the Down Valley Dough Boys to watch them play and drink all their free beer. Glenn knew if he found Jimmy he’d find the party.

Also:

Glenn and Jimmy did find time to work together. In the early eighties Jimmy was touring, the Eagles were on hiatus and Glenn was writing songs for his solo career. When Jimmy would leave town he had some of his road crew watch his house for him. Glenn loved a good comedy and he ended up helping Jimmy write the song Gypsies In The Palace. If you know the song you’ll understand the comedic factor since the story is about house sitters that take advantage of your hospitality. The song is on the Last Mango In Paris album and if you listen to it you’ll hear a fake phone conversation between Jimmy and someone who is going on the road asking if he knows anyone who could house sit for him. That someone is Glenn Frey.

Thank you for all the songs. Thank you for all the stories that go with them. Sail on Glenn Frey. Take it easy.

I'd be willing to bet the unknown narrator at the beginning of "Gypsies in the Palace" is either actor Peter O'Toole or Patrick Stewart. It sounds like Peter O'Toole to me. Listen to a clip from "Becket" or "A Lion in Winter" and I think you may agree.

(He lived in the US a lot in later years, so his accent wasn't quite as strong as in this clip, but the essence is there.)

I do indeed and its a great guitar to play. Tho I haven't been able to play in a while. GEF, another borderer who was here pretty much in the earlier days of the Border also has one.

UndertheWire

What impressed me about that was:

Regarding the almost Spartan simplicity of the instrument, Frey said it was important to him to keep the guitar affordable as well as extremely functional. The key for him was sound and usefulness. He explained that, “the finish and inlay and bells and whistles don’t have anything to do with that. We took a pretty straightforward approach to it; the only thing it has is the little ‘GF’ on the headstock. I’ve had ten or twelve of these in my hands, and they all sounded great and needed very little set up.”
It sounds so much like what he was saying about the Eagles show back in the 70s.

Here's a TMZ article from yesterday talking about Glenn leaving his entire estate to Cindy. I don't know why this is being talked about so long after his death, but I guess it has some importance, or they wouldn't have posted it.

No surprise here, he left everything to her just as we thought he would. Common practice. My Dad left everything to my Mom when he passed. Every relative of mine left their entire estate to their surviving spouse when they passed. Sounds like 99% of his assests were in trust.

UndertheWire
11-16-2017, 11:21 AM
I find that reassuring. It's confirmation that his financial affairs were in order and as most of the assets appear to be held within a trust, there's not a lot of information available to journalists, nosey people and fortune-hunters.

Pippinwhite
11-16-2017, 11:35 AM
It probably took this long for the estate to go through probate, considering its size. Most folks who leave a will don't have to go through probate, but I imagine with an estate/trust of this size, it would be a necessity. There's a lot of moving parts in a situation like this, and even with Cindy as sole heir and executrix, it still entails a lot of paperwork and processing. This was probably the first opportunity any media outlet had to see any part of the will, and that's because I imagine it's been tied up in probate all this time. The rest of the legal stuff is just a formality, hopefully.

Estate law is a whole other animal unto itself -- especially when you're talking about the kind of money involved in this one.

groupie2686
11-16-2017, 04:43 PM
I'm a lawyer and do a lot of probate, and it is not necessarily true that most people who have a will don't need to go through probate. It depends on what's in the estate and the size of the estate. This varies by state as well. It sounds like they are just starting the probate process now and Cindy is trying to probate a copy of a will because she can't find the original. It is surprising to me that the lawyer who drafted the will wouldn't have kept the original, as is common practice, or that the original wouldn't have been kept in a safe place.

I wonder how TMZ gets this stuff...every time I read something like this about a celebrity, Dirty Laundry comes to mind. If this is all the dirt they could dig up on Glenn, he did well indeed.

Groupie - I knew you and Mary C. are attorneys. I come from a family of attorney - they all do corp. law. The jerk who was my parents family attorney drew up his will. A copy was given to my BIL(who is an atty) and the original remained with my parents attorney. When my Mom passed(a few years after my Dad) we went to probate the will and contacted the attorney. Well, excuse my french, but the @@@@@@@:censored: jerk had lost the will ! Thankfully, my BIL still had his copy. We had to apply to the court to have his copy deemed a legal document so the will could be probated. Once that was done we had no problem. Just wondering how common it is for someone to loose/misplace a will.

Pippinwhite
11-16-2017, 07:14 PM
I didn't even think about Cindy losing a copy of the will! Although, it might have gone missing while cleaning one of the homes for sale, or during a move. You think you have everything in one place...

I just made the assumption it had gone through probate since the press found a copy of it. That would make sense under the public records law. First rule of journalism: Don't. Assume. DUH! Busted that one up.

But yeah, I'd have thought the attorney who prepared it would have a copy, too. As I said, estate law is a whole other animal.

I have lost important documents in a move as well as misplaced them only to inadvertently stumble upon them while looking for something else. Safe deposit boxes are my new best friend.

From all my dealings with wills and estates, often times the original copy of a will is kept in a safe place ie: a safety deposit box, a personal safe or often it is left with the lawyer or notary who officiated it. Copies are generally given to those important enough in the family or named in the will.

I would be willing to bet either Azoff or Greenfield have the original will. Somebody will have it and really, it's none of the media's business who has it or not.

The weird thing for me personally is - it's been over a year and it still doesn't seem real... or right. I can only equate it to Elvis' death where you honestly can't believe your heroes are gone. Not to say we elevate these people above others, but you hold them in such high regard that you don't want any tragedy to come to them. 67 was just way too young.

https://www.dailynews.com/2017/12/26/eagles-don-henley-helps-lets-buy-a-mountain-group-preserve-17-acres-in-laurel-canyon/

Government agencies, neighborhood special events, resident and community donations, philanthropic support, and even gifts from some of Laurel Canyon’s storied former residents helped complete the purchase.

Eagles leader Don Henley made a $100,000 donation in memory of his friend and collaborator — and fellow former Laurel Canyon resident — Glenn Frey. “I greatly appreciate your efforts to preserve the rare undeveloped lands that remain in the Laurel Canyon area,” Henley said. “These resources are precious, both in terms of wildlife habitat, and in terms of the human history that resides there.”

Good for Don. I know Glenn would be happy with this.

An unrelated aside: The hubs bought the book "To The Limit" for me for Christmas. I was reading bits and pieces of it (Glenn's mom's comment about if his guitar had T&A about rolled me off the sofa laughing), and came up on the bit about the surgeries Glenn had on his nose. The author said the surgeons used Teflon to help shore things up. Assuming that's the case (and I'm not sure I take it all at face value since he has so many anonymous sources, which, as a former newsie, are big red flags for me), then you can look up "teflon rheumatoid arthritis" on Google and there's an established link between the two. It just makes me wonder. It would make sense, sadly.

Interesting book, though.

Since Glenn and Bob Seger will forever be linked in my mind, there's a few things that one will always remind me of the other. Since I live in the Shoals, they both have strong, long-lasting ties here.
Here's 10 reasons why...

1. Both were Michigan boys who headed south in the early 70's and landed in Sheffield, Alabama at about the same time.

2. Glenn encouraged Bob to record his Beautiful Loser LP in Sheffield. "He (Glenn) came and heard my Beautiful Loser stuff. If he hadn't come, seriously, I probably would have put out another record like Seven, basically all rock & roll, with maybe one ballad. But Frey liked it all. He said, 'Go with it, man. Do something diverse. And ever since then, I been doing it.' " It established an important pattern for Seger's work — the ballads were done with the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section, the rockers with the Silver Bullet gang.

3. Both were fans of and friends with local guitarist, Eddie Hinton. Glenn credits him with teaching him the fingerings of Chinese Soul that you hear in songs on the No Fun Aloud album. Eddie was a tragic figure in so many ways. The slight he received on the Staple Singers song, I'll Take You There seemed to sum up his career when Mavis "Little" David Hood during his bass part and Barry Becket's keyboards. When Eddie does his smooth guitar solo she calls him "daddy" because Pops normally played guitar. Glenn and Eddie spent a lot of time on the tiny back porch of that little studio playing guitar.

4. Glenn was in town to contribute some great guitar playing on Seger's Let It Shine on the Stranger In Town album.

5.Glenn, Don and Timothy came down to sing backing vocals on Fire Lake from the Against The Wind LP.

6. It was also around the time Bob co-wrote Heartache Tonight with Glenn.

7. Glenn co-wrote That Girl with Bob, probably while producing Lou Ann Barton's underappreciated album Old Enough.

8. My cousin had engineered all of Bob's hits and he took the controls on No Fun Aloud.

9.Around that same time, Bob was there recording the last song of his 10 year run at Muscle Shoals Sound, Coming Home. Tear jerker.

10. The Allnighter and Soul Searchin' ended Glenn's run in Sheffield. I never thought that would be the final times the two of them would come back but due to Glenn's death and Bob's health, it may really be over.

Bernie and I wrote a song together for the Eagles album One of These Nights; it’s called I Wish You Peace. It’s the last song on the album. I remember in Florida when they were recording the album and I was there with Bernie, Glenn — bouncing a basketball in the driveway outside the studio — said to me, “It’s a nice song.” I wish I’d told him then how much that meant to me. We end up with a lot of wishes as we get older — things we didn’t say or do. But hopefully it makes us slow down a bit, and think more deeply about every day we are given. Because we finally see how quickly the currents of life move. RIP Glenn.

Oh, that's lovely. And I'm glad Glenn shares my opinion of "I Wish You Peace"!

Thanks for posting that.

That's a beautiful tribute, Dreamer. It's hard to believe that two years have already passed. I woke up this morning, and the anniversary was the first thing that I thought about. I hope Glenn is resting peacefully, takin' it easy, and pickin' a guitar somewhere.

From the start of my time on here i have a learned a lot about the guys in the band but none more then Glenn. I have learned a great deal about the man he was and what made him special. That does nothing to make me feel better about never getting to see him in live concert but it does make me feel good about how many people he touched and how he cared about the fans. I hope his family and his friends have hope and some healing on the anniversary of a tragic day in their lives

Dreamer - Thank you for the beautiful collage tribute of Glenn. I can't believe it has been two years that this beautiful talented man left us. I have been thinking of him and his family and friends these last few days. Prayers to all of them as well as our Border friends knowing how difficult it is for them too.

I turned on my Glenn Frey Spotify playlist with all of his recorded songs this morning. The first three were Call on Me, Strange Weather, and Working Man. I sang every word. Those three songs may encapsulate him perfectly -- a song from his TV show, a love song and one that highlighted and celebrated his incredible work ethic. Here are some other things I love about Glenn:

1. He was true to himself

Glenn was an expert in and student of all kinds of music. He wrote hit after hit with the Eagles and I believe he could have done the same thing in his solo career if he had wanted to. Look at what he did when he wrote songs for outside entities like movies and TV shows -- You Belong to the City and The Heat is On were both huge hits. But Glenn wrote the songs he wanted to write and the songs he wanted to sing. The One You Love and True Love are great examples. They didn't tear up the charts, but I know Glenn was extremely proud of those songs. They sounded the way he wanted them to and they were from his heart. Some of his songs were a little cheesy, in the best possible way, and I listen to songs like I Found Somebody and Soul Searchin' knowing they turned out exactly like he planned.

2. Band intros

One of the highlights of the 30 Eagles concerts I saw while Glenn was with us. To this day I may randomly shout, "The prrrride of Sacrrrramenntooo Calleeeeefornnnnyaaa!" or "The Master Blaster on the Stratocaster!" I loved how proud Glenn was of his one-liners and how proud he was of his band. That also came through in The History of the Eagles -- the documentary, not the tour -- when Glenn presented an honest portrayal of the 1970s and the tumult that probably helped the Eagles accomplish as much as they did.

3. The songs

I love all of his Eagles songs. I also love The One You Love, I Volunteer, Partytown, I Found Somebody, New Love, Smuggler's Blues, Let's Go Home, Better in the U.S.A., Sexy Girl, I Got Love, Lover's Moon, Some Kind of Blue, True Love, Can't Put Out This Fire, Soul Searchin', Working Man, Livin' Right, Long Hot Summer, Love in the 21st Century, He Took Advantage, River of Dreams, I've Got Mine, Brave New World, Part of Me, Part of You, Call on Me, Common Ground, This Way To Happiness, Who's Been Sleeping in My Bed, You Belong to the City, For Sentimental Reasons, Route 66, After Hours, I Wanna Be Around, and Worried Mind.

He had an incredible body of work and I'll listen to and love it -- and Glenn -- for the rest of my life.

It's always very hard for me to express myself on days like this - strange, since I have a PhD in English! I always thought I'd wax poetic and write him a stellar tribute... but no. My words all seem grossly inadequate to communicate what I'm feeling, and my eloquence deserts me.

So I'll just say I miss you, Glenn.

My first post on here was on the first anniversary of Glenn's death, and now that another year has gone by, I've been thinking of what to say, and I don't think I can put it better than I did then.

Hello everyone...I've been a member of this site for a while, but I've never posted anything before. On the anniversary of Glenn's death, I wanted to share my story and my thoughts with you all.

I'm 30 years old, younger than the typical Eagles fan. While I have always been a fan of music that was before my time (I've liked The Beatles and Queen since I was 5 years old), I had never been much of an Eagles fan before. My mom had played Eagles music for me when I was growing up, so I was aware of them and I knew some songs, but I wasn't a big fan. Even then, though, as a child, I found Glenn's voice soothing and comforting.

After Glenn died, my mom wanted to get the Dead Dog Records arc of Wiseguy on DVD. As you probably know, that arc, with Glenn in it, isn't available on DVD. I love Wiseguy and have always wanted to see the rest of the show, so I was game, and bought a bootleg copy. I knew I'd like the show (it is a great show and if you haven't seen it, you should), but what I wasn't prepared for was Glenn Frey. The second he appeared on the screen, I was transfixed. After getting through Wiseguy and watching the tribute to him at the Grammys, I was curious to see what he looked like when he was younger. I looked at pictures and watched a few youtube videos. I was in awe. I had never seen such a good-looking man, or anyone so cool, in my life.

As the year went on, I watched, read, and listened to everything related to Glenn and the Eagles that I could get my hands on. Since then, I've become a huge Eagles fan, in awe of their music, their lyrics, and their harmonies. No band or artist has ever resonated with me this much, like it speaks to my very soul. I regret that I didn't appreciate his talent and the brilliance of the Eagles sooner, so that I could have seen them in concert.

It is a strange feeling, to feel so sad for someone's passing, when you were not that aware of them when they were alive. It truly makes my heart ache to know that he is no longer on this planet. Barely a day has gone by that I haven't thought of him. I still find his voice soothing and comforting, but now there is sadness, too. In my religion, you light a candle on the eve of a loved one's death, and it burns for 24 hours, in honor of their memory. I lit one for Glenn last night, even though it is usually reserved for family members. It just feels so personal. I cannot imagine the day when I will not miss this sweet, wonderful, beautiful man. RIP Glenn, we miss you.

A year later, nothing has changed for me. I lit a candle for Glenn last night and I'm going to watch his Wiseguy episodes tonight - where it all started for me. We miss you and love you, Glenn, forever.

-----------

When I reflect upon Glenn Frey's amazing talent and career I don't just think about the music -- I think about Glenn, as a teenager chasing his dreams in Royal Oaks, Michigan then following them to the west coast where ultimately his dreams would come true far beyond his wildest imagination. The Eagles were born in S. Cal and it is there he met a beautiful lady named Cindy who would become his wife and the mother of his beloved 3 children. His wife and kids brought Glenn his greatest joy and his close relationship with his parents and life long relationship with childhood friends, collaborators and other musicians speaks volumes of his character. Glenn was hard working, loved to joke around, and had a very generous spirit. In essence Glenn was a good guy who never took his good fortune for granted. He appreciated and respected fans. Over the span of 4+ decades he never stopped striving to meet his own high expectations and demands whether it was in the studio making a record, on the road touring, performing for charity. He insisted on delivering the very best.

In later years Glenn discovered a passion for teaching and working with budding musicians and songwriters. His lectures and mentoring/teaching at NYU Steinhardt was particularly rewarding for Glenn and his students. Seriously, what an amazing opportunity - can you imagine having a conversation about music and song writing with Glenn Frey?

Here is what one former student wrote:

"The biggest takeaway from working with Glenn was his passion for the craft of songwriting, and the work required to create a great song. This attention to detail and focus on a consistent and cohesive narrative is something that really pushed me as a writer, and I owe it to Glenn and the NYU songwriting program for this awareness. I'm so grateful to Glenn for his willingness to share his time and wisdom with us.”

My personal takeaway is the true legacy of Glenn Frey isn't the Eagles - the music or the songs. Glenn reached for the stars and became one. Forever.

I feel similar to Soda in that anything I say feels like it is inadequate today, which is why I decided to make the collage instead. I want to thank everyone for their compliments. And for those of you who want to pay tribute to Glenn today whether it is with words or pictures, I truly appreciate each and every one of your heartfelt posts.

My collage recognizes a few of the public tributes to Glenn, but I thought this might be a good time to revisit some of us Borderers more personal tributes to Glenn too. I'll start with kind of a combination of public and personal tributes, which was the Royal Oak pilgrimage that Soda, Glennsallnighter, and I made over a long weekend in May, 2016. You can read the entire thread here (https://www.eaglesonlinecentral.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6399), but I'll go ahead and recap the highlights ... We planned the trip around the Detroit Music Awards in which they performed a tribute to Glenn and also were able to visit Glenn Frey Drive and drive by Glenn's childhood homes on Wyandotte and Catalpa Streets (actually his home on Wyandotte has been torn down and an interstate highway has replaced it ). We also drove to Cleveland to see Glenn's tribute and the Eagles exhibits at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Anyway, GA posted some pictures in the thread, but unfortunately, they are no longer there due to the Photobucket debacle. We'll have to see about getting those replaced. However, she did post a video that she took of Glenn's DMA tribute that you can still view on YouTube ...

Dreamer, what a wonderful collage. Thank you for sharing it!

There's not much I can add to what has already been posted about Glenn. I never got to meet Glenn in person, but I've been a fan since the very beginning of the Eagles. I think I feel his loss now, 2 years later, even more than I did back then. I tend to tear up if I think about him too much. I've been remembering our Borderers trip to LA at this time last year these past few days and that special memorial we did for Glenn at Joshua Tree National Park. Such a special time. Still can't really believe he's gone. I hope many people have come to find out what a truly special person he was through the many heartfelt tributes since his death. He was a woman's man and also a man's man and a kind and generous man. And such a talent!

I know I'll miss him forever, but thank goodness, we have his music!

This isn't the thread for a rant, especially today, but long story short, after our Royal Oak pilgrimage, Soda, myself, and Houston Baby headed out to L.A. just a couple of weeks later for another Eagles adventure. If my memory serves me correctly, we had already planned this trip before Glenn passed away and one of the really special things about this trip is that we rented a house in Laurel Canyon just a couple of blocks up the mountain from Glenn's infamous 'Kirkwood Casino & Health Spa' at the corner of Kirkwood and Ridpath. Another highlight of this trip was our pilgrimage to Joshua Tree Park where we made our own special memorial to Glenn. You can read about this in this thread starting at post #659:

Glenn,

It's a shame I only grew to appreciate you and understand you towards the end of your life and after your death. Your influence on music and my life has been bigger than I would have ever dreamed. The way you led your band to be the best it could be and would accept no substitutes was and is admirable and took me awhile to understand. You were quite underrated as a guitarist, something I always thought, and although you deferred most of the singing as the Eagles went on to others, you always held your own in the band and had a voice that could equal one of the greatest voices of all time - Don Henley. The band was extremely lucky to have two great vocalists and always had the best musicians around to always perform at your highest. You gave it your all and believed in giving your fans the best show they could have. You founded the band, joined Don and together you made something incredible. Without the Eagles music, I wouldn't have ever found the guitar, something that gives me so much joy, and because of that, saved my life. I may not always have agreed with you and I may have been angry at you, but I've come to realize you always knew your band the best and did what you felt was right to keep it running at the highest level, and that's respectable. I am glad I finally saw the light, although much too late to appreciate this when I saw you live twice with the band. You were an incredible talent and I wish I knew back then what I do now. You were the heart of the Eagles and along with Don, created the music that changed my life forever.

RIP Glenn. I wish I could have met you. It's not the same without you here.

Our next adventure was in September, 2016 when Soda and I went to Winslow for the unveiling of Glenn's statue at the Standin' On the Corner' park. Here is the thread:

The first part of the thread is about the statue itself. You have to go 1/2 to 2/3 the way through before we get around to discussing the actual trip, which did not go that smoothly because the statue did not arrive on schedule. There is still the Photobucket issue so you can't see most of the pictures, but there are also a few YouTube videos that you can see.

So I starting digging today into all the stuff I've been collecting on my computer over the last few years but haven't uploaded and I've been spending the last couple of hours organizing files. I came across a short interview with Glenn and Natalie Maines from 2010, back with the Eagles were briefly touring with the Dixie Chicks and Keith Urban over the summer.

The interviewer asked Glenn the standard question about the Eagles' longevity, and Glenn talked about how much he loved playing the songs, but then the following exchange occurred:

Natalie Maines: "Do you them as much as the first day you played them?"

Glenn: "In some ways, I love them more, because I know I'm not gonna do them for that much longer."

I think we, the audience, could feel his love for those songs coming through as he played them.

Thank you, Glenn.

Thanks so much for finding the picture of our Joshua Tree memorial, Soda. And again thanks to everyone for all of your beautiful and touching posts today. It helps a lot to read them.

So this will wrap up my posts for today. This is to give links to the threads that cover our Border Gathering in L.A. one year ago to celebrate Eagles and the first anniversary of Glenn's passing. This is the trip that Brooke mentioned earlier and here is the thread ...

Soda also wrote more about our follow-up visit to Joshua Tree to memorialize Glenn in this thread (Post #830) ...

Well I have been thinking about Glenn  reminiscing about the times I was lucky enough to see him perform, and the trips I have made with fellow Borderers all week really. I also set a goal last week of playing one of each of Glenn:heart:'s solo albums each day between then and yesterday, and I acheived that aim. Even better, my brother had ordered Bob Segers CD for me for Christmas and it arrived on Wednesday, so I listened to that yesterday too. Yesterday I wore one of my After Hours t-shirts that I bought in LA when I went to see him there and also I wore a new bracelet which I bought before Christmas where the proceeds go to Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Desperada and I were overdue to meet up so we decided to meet last night and to drink a toast to Glenn . So we headed into the city centre to TGIF (Hard Rock being closed for renovations). We had a lovely evening catching up, had a meal and I had some Tequila Sunrise drinks as well. We texted Soda while we were there a few times. At 22:11 which was exactly the time 2 years ago that I heard the news (from Soda) we toasted Glenn .

Then we got some free balloons from the TGI staff and went out to the river - a 5 minute walk and set off the balloons in memory of Glenn

I will always remember Glenn  as long as I live and am so thankful for his wonderful music and the friends that he brought me.

Soda, thanks so much for posting the Joshua Tree Memorial. Wow, what an experience!! I have been to JT many years ago on a quick drive thru and remember the area as being beautiful and definitly having it's own vibe. It must have been very poignant finding the exact spot the guys visited so many years ago.

A welcome reminder from Thomas Sullivan:

It would be a travesty to live life less in the aftermath of what Glenn stood for. A total contradiction. Hard as his sudden passing hit, those of us who were close to him knew this – that we must honor him not with a paralysis of grief but with remembering him in the business of living.

And it must have been cold, since you can see their breath as they sing, plus at the end, you can see it was pouring down rain. (Troupers, all.) And cannot say enough about Tim's excellent bass on this song. You hear the sax, yeah, but the bass drives the song, and he does a great job.

Yep - that is from the Christchurch, NZ bootleg. That is one of the best bootlegs around of the band's live shows. If you do a search on the board, I'm sure you will find numerous thread where the bootleg is discussed.

And thanks for that quote by Glenn's good friend 'Sully', UTW. He said that beautifully. I agree that Glenn's passion for life is how he would want to be remembered and sharing in that passion is a great way to honor his life.

Don't know if anybody's seen this yet but Bob Seger's done another tribute to Glenn in the lyric video of his new single "I Knew You When". He ends the video with a picture of him and Glenn together and it sounds like he wrote it about Glenn and his friendship too.

The song is about Glenn , as is Glenn Song from the same album, and the album is dedicated to Glenn.

While Timothy's solo album was completed at the time of Glenn's passing, he dedicated it to Glenn. The dedication read "To Roach from Woodstock".

Freypower, I also believe that Seger really cared about Glenn. I think that he cares about Glenn's family and Glenn's band and the other members too. Perhaps that is why he joined them at the Classic West to sing "Heartache Tonight".

Cameron Crowe on the Dan Patrick show March 3, 2017 discussing Jerry Maguire and reminding Dan that he had Glenn on his show back in April 2015. Dan did a cutaway and showed a short clip of Glenn talking with the crew "The Danettes" which I had not seen until now. So hard to believe this April 2015 interview with Dan Patrick was only 6 months before Glenn sought treatment at Mount Sinai in Manhattan. Glenn looked great and was clearly enjoying himself.

Seger cared about Glenn & paid tribute to Glenn, and that was important to me. As I think I have said before my guess is that when he sang Heartache Tonight he assumed that would be the end of it.

Of course Schmit's dedication was important as well.

He didn't look bad to me at all - unless you expect him to look like he's in stage makeup all the time. I think sometimes you get people going back and looking at stuff from months prior, and going "Oh yeah, I can totally tell he was really sick" because of what happened afterwards, when he really was just looking normal and "dressed down."

I've been wonderfully impressed with Seger's songs about Glenn, and the project overall. He is indeed a true friend; you don't often see this level of effort put forth. Most times, you're lucky if you get a dedication in small print.

Yes,I agree.

In this interview last year with Cameron, it's clear how much he loved and respected Glenn, they go way back and it was sweet that he gave major props to Glenn. Not sure if people know this (I didn't ) but CC ultimately changed his mind about which part he wanted Glenn to play. Glenn loved doing the movie and spending time in Phoenix during filming following orders to "play golf and work on his tan".

I don’t know how many Borderers are familiar with country artist Collin Raye but he was well-known during the 90s for several hit songs, including a few #1s like “Love, Me.”

He wrote his autobiography in 2014 and in it described meeting Glenn at a bowling fundraiser in Nashville (I believe Shun posted a picture of this event somewhere).

...when I walked in someone pointed out Glenn Frey. I was amazed that Frey would come to a country event, but there he was in all his glory. When I got up the courage to meet him, I found him to be a simply wonderful man. He knew who I was without having to be told and was extremely complimentary. He said he listened to my albums and that I sang really well, which, honestly, was perhaps the greatest compliment of my life.

He goes on to say that he sees Glenn again at the DFW airport and was moved that Glenn recognized him.

”A Voice Undefeated” by Collin Raye, 2014 (https://books.google.com/books?id=zFRHDwAAQBAJ&pg=PT202&lpg=PT202&dq=Randy+Meisner+Beach+Boys&source=bl&ots=TGY5hJpN02&sig=FpOwBeIm8hF5yyJ88iwQa3nZPFM&hl=en&sa=X#v=onepage&q&f=false)

Wow - that was quite a moment, soda. Like so many times, I was there with you and he was so funny. I didn't realize you had such a great picture of it.

As for me, I have been thinking a lot about this anniversary coming up for quite a while now. I am lucky enough to have so many wonderful memories of Glenn. I cherish each and every one of them, but, of course, none can top the wonderful 2007 Niagara Falls trip that Soda and I wrote about earlier in this thread.

However, I'll go back to the near beginning - my 3rd Eagles concert ever in October 2005 where I got my very first 'up close and personal' show and, quite honestly, it turned out to be a life-changing experience. As a diehard fan since 1972, I had always pretty much shared my Eagles love equally between Don and Glenn. But, on this particular night, around the 2nd or 3rd song in, from my 3rd row center seat, I became totally mesmerized by Glenn - I mean, seriously, I could hardly take my eyes off of him the entire show. I'm guessing he may have noticed and here is part of what I wrote in my review of the show:

"But, then came the real deal - verified EYE CONTACT! Here's what lead up to it - none of which was planned, but some tips that we should never forget. First of all, I wore a bright sky blue shirt and whenever the stage lights came up, they were right on me, so I guess the shirt may have stood out. But the best stroke of luck was that there was a little 4 or 5 year-old girl sitting right next to me with her mom. Sometime late in the show Glenn acknowledged the little girl and was talking to her and making cute faces at her. During LITFL, was my major moment - Glenn was mouthing the words as usual and when he got to the line "she was too tired to fight about it" he stared directly at me through the whole line. I stared directly back, and then I pointed to myself and mouthed ME? at him - he looked back at me, pointed to his shirt, and mouthed "blue" indicating the color of my shirt. He made a quick face at me by squenching his nose and gave me a little grin. And I swear, I'll never be the same again".

It's kind of embarrassing how shallow I was, but if anyone is interested, you can find the link to my entire review of the show here (https://eaglesonlinecentral.com/forum/showthread.php?728-Oakland-CA-10-11-05&highlight=oakland). However, in spite of my shallowness, this night was the impetus for me to make up for lost time and I spent the next decade going to as many Eagles and solo shows as my bank balance and time schedule would allow. Thank you Glenn for so many awesome, mind-blowing memories. You will always be in my heart.

You're not at all shallow Dreamer, he had that effect on so many people. He had the knack of making you feel special, like you were the only person in the place at the time. I had some of my own moments too over the last 9 years and particularly during some of his shows in 2014. Like you I've been thinking a lot about him over the last few weeks (although to be honest he never really leaves my thoughts). Last night, although it was only the 14th I was sitting in the same place that I was in at the same time, that awful Monday evening 3 years ago. at 22:11 (exactly the time Soda had texted me with the bad news) I just closed my eyes and said a silent prayer for him. He brought something extra to all our lives - I'm sure somewhere out there in that rock concert in the sky he knows it :-(:-(:-(

I had taken that day off work and gone furniture shopping. When I got home I saw a post on the internet about him being dead and thought it was a hoax like was going around at the time. But then I couldn't get in to the Border and that feeling of dread came upon me that it might be true. Sure enough, it was on the evening news. Such a sad day.

The site was overloaded - too many hits. It crashed and was unavailable just when people needed it the most. I spent hours on the phone trying to get it back up but they kept telling me that a shared server simply couldn't handle the volume of traffic I was getting. I finally wound up purchasing a dedicated server. Not that it mattered at that point.

That was my first "notification," though I didn't realize it at the time - I'd suddenly received multiple emails with error messages indicating the Border had gone down and the sites had been overloaded. I had gotten on the phone to find out why when I was texted with the news.

Wow. What great memories! I never could make it to a show, mostly because I just couldn't afford the ticket prices, and I don't think Glenn ever did too many solo shows down here.

I was sitting in the newsroom at the paper where I worked, checking the AP newswires, as you routinely do at a paper. The first was what the AP calls a "Bulletin," which is usually just a one-sentence note. It read, "Glenn Frey, Eagles founder, dead at 67." I swear, I felt like someone dumped a bucket of ice water on me. Not five minutes later, an Alert moved, which is a tad more detailed. It said something like, "Glenn Frey, founder of the Eagles dies at 67 at Columbia University Medical Center in New York, N.Y." A brief obituary moved probably 10 minutes later. News organizations usually keep an obit on hand for celebrities so they can get something up at a moment's notice. Then the stories started uploading on all the news sites. I want to say CBS had the first one. I think they beat CNN.

This was fairly late in the afternoon, and I sort of sat there in a daze, just on autopilot to do what I needed to do. When I got home, I went to the office where we have our computers, pulled up LE on my playlist and just sobbed. When I saw the national news at 5:30, I was crying again. I think the hubs was a little concerned for my mental stability, but I couldn't help it.

Still love him. He and Paul McCartney saved my life on a few occasions when I was a teenager.

I thought about that as I was typing there, Dreamer. It was like 9/11 and President Kennedy's assasination, I'll always remember all the details of that day. There are only a few events in our lives that are so significant where we will always remember exactly where we were and what we were doing when it happened. For most of us here, Glenn's death is one of those times. Glenn may be gone, but he will never be forgotten.

This trip was so healing for me. I think we all needed it being the first anniversary. :grouphug: I will definitely do it again!

What I remember most about Glenn was his enthusiasm when he was on stage. From the first time I saw him in 1976 to the last time in July 2015 he was so joyful, funny and was always giving his all. I look at The History of the Eagles tour as a true gift to his fans. And no matter how many times I saw him, I never grew tired of watching him play and sing.

Always in my heart, thoughts and prayers. You are truly missed Glenn.....:cry:

I thought about that as I was typing there, Dreamer. It was like 9/11 and President Kennedy's assasination, I'll always remember all the details of that day. My husband told me a while back that he doesn't think I've been quite the same since Glenn died. I still get a little sad and reflective when I hear his or the Eagles songs.

Yes I agree with that. I was too young for Kennedy's assassination but I certainly know where I was at 9/11 and definitely when I heard about Glenn .

In terms of how I feel now - I'm not the same person I was although you wouldn't see that outside. My husband mustn't be as perceptive as Brookes and to be honest my kids just ridicule me over it. So I don't talk about Glenn  or his death at home. I don't think they mean to be unkind, they were young when it happened and they will understand perhaps when they are older and have experienced something similar themselves. Everything in my life that has happened is on one side or another of a great divide, that divide being whether it happened before or after Glenn 's death. In the aftermath I know I was just and barely existing - my short term memory and concentration were gone completely and I could not remember even the most basic arrangement or commitment unless it was written in black and white in front of me. To actually get up in the mornings was an achievement. That has obviously improved with time. The biggest long term change that I have come to realise is that I do not feel emotion any more. It is really hard to feel really really happy over anything and when I get bad news I always default to 'Its not as bad as when Glenn  died' mode. But I guess I have to live with that.

The trip to LA and the previous one to Detroit that I made with Soda and Dreamer the previous year were definitely healing and I would really love to make another one. I have been involved in some FB Eagles groups too that have spawned in the last 3 years and have 'met' some lovely people but my true friends are my 'Glenn  friends' from the Border

That's a very sweet post. You know that you can always come here and we will understand and empathize with you about the connection you feel to Glenn. I think you are right about your kids being more empathetic once they experience a similar loss. And, unfortunately, it seems to be inevitable that they will someday.

There's not a day goes by that I don't think about Glenn. Little reminders of him are all around my apartment; a couple posters on the wall, a signed photo hanging in the hallway, a signed album hanging in the living room, my Glenn calendar in the office. I too often find myself comparing things to his death in terms of emotional scale; I too have a "before" and "after" mentality towards January 18, 2016 in a lot of ways.

I know I will never care as much about a musician, a "star," as I cared about Glenn, about seeing him, about hearing him. The loss of that saddens me, too. I have other fandoms and other passions, but it will never be like that again.

However, there is absolutely no one in my "real life" who knows how hard this hit me. I keep the degree of it on the down low because they wouldn't understand. To them, it's just something that makes me sad when I occasionally think about it... not something that had a major effect on my life. I don't even talk about it on Facebook because all my family and colleagues are on there. This is the only place I confess it.

Life goes on, but I will always miss him.

This is the only place I can talk about it too. I try to be pretty casual about the Eagles on Fb. Even though my husband knows, we don't normally talk about it. He's actually a little jealous of Glenn and I don't want him to think I love him any less. I mean, it was really just a fantasy that he shouldn't feel threatened about at all. I never met Glenn in person! He was also a huge fan of the Eagles, so I try to go along and enjoy their songs when I'm with him, but inside my heart is just a bit sad.

He'll never be forgotten, ever!

Edited.

And for me, The Border is a safe haven. It brings me comfort reading the posts and seeing that others feel as I do. Just knowing that others are missing Glenn as much as me is so comforting. But I still have trouble verbalizing my feelings to others even on here.
His death still just leaves me speechless.

Thanks HB - I love the fact too that the Border is here as a refuge. Pretty much all of what Brooke, Soda and HB have said about reminders being everywhere, feeling sad at certain songs and not being able to talk about it in 'real' life applies to me too. It was wonderful when Soda was visiting me last summer and I'm lucky I hook up with Desperada occasionally (actually we will go out tomorrow night and toast Glenn ). But he is still the first thing I think about when I wake every morning and the last person I think about when I drop off to sleep at night. At this stage a dream is a bonus. Life goes on but its just not the same and he will always have a place in my heart.

There are many people who admire the Eagles, and mourn Glenn's death as a tragic loss. But how much it still affects us perplexes them; they fail to understand the personal grief that many of us feel, especially people like me who never met him or even saw him in concert. Yet I don't think of it differently than losing anyone who impacted your life or whom you cared about deeply.

And when he died-- the anticipation of the joy, excitement, and inspiration of every new thing he would bring to our lives was now ended. All that we hoped to happen in the future was never to be, forever lost.

We mourn that loss especially on the day that he was taken from us. But today we also celebrate all the happiness he gave us, the beautiful person that the Lord brought into this world, and the love we wll always have for him.

See you on the other side, Our Glenn.

I feel terrible, I've been so crazy busy at work this week that it didn't even dawn on me that it was the anniversary until just now. 3 years...so hard to believe, it feels like yesterday, doesn't it. There are times when I watch him in HOTE, or one of the concert DVDs, or on Wiseguy, and I still can't believe it, he was so full of life.

We still miss you and love you, Glenn...thank you for the music and joy you brought to our lives.

I was supposed to be traveling today but due to weather, my flight was cancelled. I was rebooked for tomorrow morning but I'm not even sure if I'm going to make it at all at this point, since a winter storm is predicted for Columbus tomorrow. And the only reason I was traveling to Columbus was because I was celebrating Glenn by going to see a Bob Seger concert where he was going to sing a song dedicated to him!

Well, it still might happen, so I won't give up hope yet. Until then, I've been spending today remembering the good times and thinking about what a special guy he was - listening to my mega-Glenn playlist on my iPod with no less than 288 songs on it! Raising a screwdriver to Glenn. It's nice to have other people to share today with.

RIP Glenn Frey.

I personally feel a bit of regret and guilt every time this day comes. I regret not looking at the whole picture, and being against Glenn for so many years with regards to the whole DF deal. HOTE really made me mad when he did his telling of how the firing went down. I was fuming. I'll admit, I really didn't like Glenn. It wasn't sadly until after I heard the news that he passed, that I finally started to realize that he was in the right to do what he felt was best for his band. I always thought Glenn was the devil and Felder was an angel. Over time, I realized that Felder was not innocent, and Glenn wasn't the terrible person I thought.

I'm glad I finally woke up and realized how important Glenn was to the band and finally grasped what he meant with his football analogy of not everyone getting to touch the ball. When I first heard it, I was outraged. I was outraged at his coldness about how he handled Felder's call. I was outraged at how he treated this guy I looked up to and thought was completely without any fault. I was very, very wrong. I had blinders on, for lack of a better word. I only saw Felder's "I'm the victim here" and I only saw Glenn as being this belligerent intimidating figure. And I fought with some members here from time to time about it.

After Glenn died, I went back and rewatched HOTE, watched concert videos, listened to their songs (particularly the ones he sang on), and listened to his underrated guitar work. I realized how wrong I was for being so against the man that had SO much to do with the music I loved. I had seriously undervalued Glenn, and I overvalued some of the others in light of the big picture of what I called the Eagles. I thought he was just a guy who sang and played basic guitar that paled in comparison to Don Henley's vocal chops. I thought Don did all of the heavy lifting of lyrics/vox and Joe and Felder did all of the "music". I was wrong.

Of course Glenn would never have known how I felt and how angry and vitriolic I used to be towards him, but I still would have liked to apologize and thank him for the music and it being there for me when I was in a bad place. I think even if I told him how I had once felt about him, he'd still be friendly and kind, as he always was to his fans. He certainly would have handled it better than I would have if the situation was reversed. He really didn't deserve the anger I directed at him, some is still on this very board as posts, for so many years. He was always my least favorite, and over time to me, he has become my favorite in the band. I love Joe Walsh, but Glenn to me was the Eagles in a lot of ways. His contributions can't be overstated. I realize it probably looks bad that I realized this after the man had passed, and I do feel intense regret and guilt for that. How I only wish I could have realized all of this while he was still around and while I was going to see the band. I can only say I am 100% honest with how I feel and it isn't just to make it look better after he passed. I feel like I will spend a lot of time defending him and his legacy and his hard work in creating what was the Eagles in effort to try to keep others from spreading false information and vitriol towards the man like I did. There are two sides to every story and I spent too damn long only looking at one angle and basically brainwashing myself that Glenn was always the bad guy. I don't want any one else to make that same mistake. Glenn deserved better from me, a supposed fan of his band. This day will probably always continue to make me feel sad for his loss and a bit guilty that I once felt the way I did.

@WF88 -- I so admire your honesty. I truly do. I've always been a Glenn Girl, so when I saw some of the hate toward him on some sites, I was really confused and kind of hurt. I've always thought DF was a great guitarist, and Glenn always said that, too. I hope DF realizes what an opportunity he lost in not burying the hatchet. Maybe not rejoined the band or anything, but just making sure the path between him and Glenn was clear, as the Native Americans say.

I've said before that loving Glenn is kind of the same as loving Paul McCartney. Not surprisingly, I'm a Paul woman. LOL. But I never did fall for all the hype about John Lennon (not taking away anything from him, you understand). But Paul's music always reached me in a way John's never did. Glenn is the same way. The first time I heard Lyin' Eyes when I was about seven, I was hooked. When I saw "The One You Love" video on MTV, I nearly fainted. Hehe.

Obviously, Glenn wasn't perfect, and he would be the first one to say it (another testament to his character), but the amount of drugs they were all taking the last couple of years the band was together in the 70s just brought out the very worst in everyone. Glenn says as much in HOTE. No one makes good decisions when they're on that kind of stuff.

I really appreciate your post. One of the hardest things to do, sometimes, is to admit you might have been mistaken about something you thought was pretty much settled and decided. It's a lesson for all of us: make sure you check out the facts and be willing to change your mind if the facts don't fit your narrative. So try to put that guilt to rest. You've been honest and open and admitted it, so it's time to let it go. I know you'd have Glenn's understanding and forgiveness, so keep loving the music and speaking the truth. :)

Austin, thanks for your post---and don't be so hard on yourself. We all have had a mistaken impression about someone due to things we have read or heard.(Although many won't admit it.). I don't think Glenn wasted a lot of time worrying about what outsiders thought about decisions he made to keep the band together. To be a leader you sometimes must make unpopular decisions. He did what had to be done and took the heat for it.

But I do hope that upon reading your posts, persons who feel the way you used to about Glenn will step back and look at the real reasons things were done the way they were. Perhaps then they will retract their negative attitudes and honor the man as you have done. I respect all your efforts, WF88!

Before beating yourself up, it's worth remembering that a lot of the good stuff about Glenn wasn't said until after he'd died. Even as someone who was inclined to favour him, I didn't have a good idea of who he was. Not that I know that now, but all the stories and tributes that I've read over the last three years gives me a much richer picture. It's not just the obvious people and it's often not the big gestures, it's just the accumulation of inspiration and small acts of kindness.

First of all, a HUGE thank you to all of you for your heartfelt posts in remembering Glenn.

And Austin, I agree with other who say how much they appreciate your honesty and not to beat yourself up too much over it. I know Glenn understood that, as a public figure, he would never please all the people all the time, so I don't think he would have been too upset with you.

As we have said many times, all of the seven members share responsibility for the failures and successes of the band; however, the leader often bears the brunt of the blame when things go wrong. I'm pretty sure Glenn understood this as well.

Anyway, I am happy for you that you are now able to appreciate Glenn for the gifted and talented person he was and celebrate his life with fondness and respect. It takes a big person to grow and realize that they may have been wrong. You can take comfort in knowing that you share that gift with Glenn.

Austin, I'll echo what others have said about how impressed I am with your honest post and the maturity you've displayed in your ability to re-evaluate your opinions with the new information you've discovered and admit that you weren't always right. That's more than a lot of people will EVER be willing to do - no matter what facts come to light, they will double down on their original views and never give them up. Kudos to you.

I think we all inevitably have regrets about things we could have done differently. I was working on a fan letter to Glenn before he died. I had written one in 2005, but it was 2015 and I wanted to tell him how much had changed since then. I was working on it in South African July - I had typed up about a page on my iPad. When I got back, instead of finishing it, I put it off to finish later....but I got busy....

And then there was no later. It's still on my tablet, half-finished; I can't bring myself to delete it. It's a testament to "waiting until it's too late."

Regrets are hard, but we can't immerse ourselves in them (although I know that's easier said than done). We can only learn from them and move on. It sounds to me like you've learned quite a bit.

@Soda -- yeah, I knew he was on the phone in the original version. "Hey Jimmy. This is Glenn!" LOL. Also, this has come up before, but I'm pretty well satisfied the uncredited British actor who does the intro for the album version is Peter O'Toole. I've seen several theories, but, going from the dialog in "Becket" and "The Lion in Winter," I'm almost sure it was O'Toole. The world may never know!

http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/music/la-me-ln-eagles-founding-member-glenn-frey-dead-at-67-20160118-story.html

I knew glenn for many years. He used to come in to some of the different places I worked in LA, while trying to "make it" After he had been coming in for a few months, sometime with Jack Mack( from the Heart attacks) and he was " off again" while dating Janie, he asked me out. A girl i worked with was BFF's with Barbara Azoff, who she was always telling about me at the time, so Glenn knew I sang. He said to me on a date one night " dont ever ask me to help you with your career" I was a bit defensive, as i had never brought up my music to him. He went on to say " Its a REALLY cut throat industry, and you are too nice a person. It will chew you up and spit you out, and I dont want to be a part of that" Speaks volumes about the kind of person he was. This was when He had just released "No fun Aloud" and was enjoying good success with it. You can not blame someone in his position to be a bit jaded, as everyone always wanted something from you. I didnt want anything from him, just wanted to see his solo album do REAL well because of the break up of the band. Dont think glenn fully understood someone who didnt want or need anything from him. We did have fun when we would go out,and enjoyed hanging at his place in Benedict Cyn.

Just thought I'd mention that today marks the 3rd anniversary of what I call 'Glenn Tribute Week'. On 2/13/16, the Troubadour hosted a pre-Grammy tribute show for Glenn with many of his friends/fellow musicians performing to honor him. The Grammy Awards show was held on 2/15 where Don, Joe, Tim, Bernie, and Jackson Browne paid tribute to Glenn by performing Take It Easy. And then, on 2/16 his private memorial service was held at the L.A. Forum.

We miss you Glenn. Hope you are rockin' the heavens.

These last couple of weeks, Glenn has been on my mind even more than usual. Soda, Houston Baby, and I took a long weekend trip to Detroit a couple of weeks ago and spent some time in Royal Oak where Glenn grew up. Then, we went to see his buddy and early mentor, Bob Seger, in concert and his love, admiration, and friendship for Glenn was so evident throughout the show. Then, today, marks the anniversary of Glenn's Strange Weather album, which has a special place in my heart. All this inspired me to come here and just say a few words of remembrance from one of Glenn's many true fans. He's been gone almost 3 1/2 years now, and I just thought I would take a few moments to reflect on how this man has affected my life and how much he is missed. Thanks for the memories and music, Glenn. You made the world a better place!

This is new for me: Mark Leadon, Bernie's brother, did a tribute song for Glenn: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1y2euY_0c-c&fbclid=IwAR1cRDoJH2DcD9_707M7MT6AhIrXr-swMYEBJQaG-6hH6sa_irZ9m3FhUxU

I'd never heard that either, Delilah. Thanks for sharing it. Interesting the way that he was inspired by Glenn's last words to Bernie.

You can definitely hear the similarities to his brother's sound.

Wow - What a great find, NMB. Thank you so much ... I hadn't ever seen that either. I think it was very clever how he interjects Glenn's words and song lyrics into his tribute. I wonder if Bernie helped Mark write the song.

Beautiful. I'd be willing to bet that's Bernie on backing vocals.

Four years today.

I have a guest over this weekend, so I can't be as expansive as I would like, but GlennsAllnighter posted this on Facebook and I think it expresses just what I'm feeling:

Amen, Charlie Brown. You are not alone! I still miss Glenn Frey every day, too. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think of him by virtue of visiting this board. I remember the discussions that Soda and I had soon after Glenn passed and we thought even though the board would eventually become inactive, it would remain a good resource and living memorial to Glenn and the band. And now, even though there is not as much activity as there once was here, we still have a good number of active members and get thousands of guest visitors every day. So, while we are still here, it looks like our predictions were partially correct in that Eagles fans around the globe still visit the forum. Hopefully, The Border will remain a fitting archive and tribute to America's greatest band for years to come.

On a personal note, this is the first year I have actually been home on this anniversary since Glenn's passing. As I have the past couple of years, I am reposting my tribute collage that I made to honor this man who had such a huge positive impact on my life ...

Hard to think of Glenn and not wish like hell he was still here. Piano singing. Working on a great song.

Yes Charlie Brown does indeed say it all. Well it was just about this time 4 years ago that the unbelievable news was just filtering through. So I've lit my candle, said a prayer for him and drunk a tequila sunrise. I still think about him all the time. I trust he is safe and that I will meet him one day. I will always love and miss him. Glenn ♥️ Frey Rest in Peace

SO missing Glenn on this sad anniversary. As with millions of others, he made my world a better place. And even after his passing, his memory will continue to do so for the rest of my life.
I'm so thankful for all he gave us. Forever in our hearts, Rest in Peace, Our Glenn.:weep:

I miss Glenn so much. RIP Glenn!

He is sorely missed, the band touring now pales in comparison to when he was there running his band and singing his great songs and backing up Don. He will never truly be replaced in his own band. He's "the" Eagle, my favorite. How I wish I could have met him. I sure was wrong about him when I first became a fan of the band. And that causes some lingering guilt that I know he'd had forgave me for, but I still have it.

I am sorry I couldn't make it on here on Saturday to post something, but Glenn was in my thoughts all day, as always. I watched some Eagles concert footage (the Christchurch bootleg) in his honor. I can't believe it's been 4 years. I am beyond thankful for the music but wish he was still with us...RIP Glenn

I couldn't make it here Saturday either, but I did think of him and remember the horror of that day. I couldn't believe it then and still have a hard time believing he's gone. I still get sad whenever I hear his songs.

This Charley Brown piece says it well.

Hugs to all of you too.

Just thought I'd mention that this marks the 4th anniversary of the week that the music world paused to memorialize and pay tribute to Glenn after his passing.

On 2/13/16, the Troubadour hosted a pre-Grammy tribute show for Glenn with many of his friends/fellow musicians performing to honor him.
On 2/15/16, the Grammy Awards show was held where Don, Joe, Tim, Bernie, and Jackson Browne paid tribute to Glenn by performing Take It Easy.
On 2/16/16, his private memorial service was held at the L.A. Forum.
On 2/18/16, the unveiling ceremony for Glenn Frey Drive was held in his hometown of Royal Oak, MI.

We miss you so much Glenn. Hope you are rockin' the heavens.

I've been remembering Glenn a lot today. It is the 41st anniversary of the release of The Long Run album, which features the incomparable Heartache Tonight. It is also the day in 2016 that Glenn's statue was dedicated on the corner in Winslow, Arizona. I am very thankful that Soda and I were able to be there standin' on the corner in Winslow, Arizona that day to witness the ceremony.

We still miss you so much, Glenn. You will always be in our hearts.

Wow - 40 years for TLR. HT is my favorite song on the album. Dreamer, you are so right - Glenn is missed so much.

The first time I saw Glenn was when he played at the Troubadour. The next time I saw him it was with Don playing in Linda's band. It was a great time for music back then. The Troubadour, Whiskey A Go Go, Rose Room and many I can't even remember now.

What a wonderful time! Was Glenn with Longbranch Pennywhistle, or by himself? I've wondered if he ever worked solo in the early days. Any details of those early shows would be appreciated!😁

I saw Linda Ronstadt at UC Riverside gym back in the day. Glenn & Don were her back up band. Those were the very best of times and it was so great to be growing up in Southern California.:heart:

Those of you who saw those early shows are so lucky. :jealous: Heck, as many of you may know, even though they were always my favorite band, I never saw them at all until 2003. I tried my best after that to make up for lost time after that, but you can't really.

He was with Longbranch Pennywhistle. I don't recall ever seeing him solo but that doesn't mean he may have played solo at one time. After he and Don left Linda she had Waddie as a guitar player and back up singer.

Thanks, Scamp! Things seemed to be so much more casual, relaxed, and personable between artists and fans back then. Did you get to chat with any acts?

No, they usually left the stage right after. Sometimes they'd head to the local hang out but it was too expensive for me. Did get to talk a few minuter with Linda, she was great. Really down to earth.

I guess it's possible, but I would be shocked if Glenn ever performed solo back in the early days. He was definitely a 'band' guy back then. Even David Geffen told him he belonged in a band, and he took that advice. Even after the Eagles break-up in '80, it took him a while to decide to go solo. But, like I said, you never know ... he was ambitious and confident, so he may have given it a try.

Just a little fun info..Joe has played with both Glenn and Waddy Wachtel. Do you know what Glenn and Waddy have in common besides Joe?

Both played at the Troubadour, both played and sang backup in Linda's band and both are left handed but play guitar right handed. Just something to file in your "who gives a sh**" department :D

I am rereading this thread and find it both comforting and inspiring. I am thankful for the many people who put so much time and effort into curating the stories and the forethought to copy the text rather than provide links which would now be broken.

Next week, it will be five years and so much has changed and so many have died but we still have the stories and the music. Thank you Glenn and everyone who allowed us to see him through their eyes.

Yeah - Today marks the 5 year anniversary of our beloved Glenn's passing. There's still not a day that goes by that I don't think of him. Some days it seems like it was only yesterday and some days its seems like an eternity. I will never stop missing him. While, of course, you can share your thoughts in this thread, Soda and I thought this would be a good time to celebrate Glenn's life. So, I created a new thread that I will be posting various things in throughout the day that commemorate his remarkable talent and gifts that he left us with. Here's the link, so please check it out and share whatever you'd like ...
