Soda, I immediately thought of you when I saw this. I would guess that if you can get a ticket that you will be going. I even predicted that you would prefer the package without the hotel stay. :)

It's a nice package, that's for sure, and as a DH fan, I would love to take advantage of it. However, the price is way too high for my budget. Does he really need to the money to be selling something like this with photo ops? I think not. I wish at least a percentage of this was donated to charity ... or that he would give one away to benefit Walden Woods or something.

I'd love to but truth be told, I'm not sure I'll be able to. The concert is on a Monday. I'd have to take two days off of work, and that's finals week.

I think Don Henley is a hoarder. People hoard all kinds of stuff like on those tv shows and Henley must be a money hoarder...hes gotta be, theres no other reason why he would need to charge these outrageous amounts of money from loyal fans.

DivineDon

You have no proof of this. There could very well be some arrangement between Don and the complex where a percentage of the profits go to his charitable organisations. Don't take away someone's good name when you don't know the facts.

Do you know the facts?
I know that he is charging $1500 for a show , a signed photo and a group pic and there is no mention of him donating anything. Not that he has to, he doesnt. But i just find it kinda distasteful that he just wants to milk his loyal fans for everything they got. How bout a free show to his loyal fans in a sign of thanks for making him the 2nd richest drummer of all time only behind Ringo Starr.

THAT is not a fact - just media speculation. Don was asked about being the 'fourth richest drummer in the world' and he pointed out that there was no way anyone could know his personal finances so that statement was baloney....

....and who's to say he won't give a free concert at some stage? How can you say definitively that he won't? You're talking about one particular show and I re-iterate that we don't know whether some of the money is going to charity or not...

That's a good point, DD. It makes me feel a little better that that's a possibility.

Don is NOT charging the fees for the show - Runaway Tours is responsible for the prices, and it is inclusive for the event. I imagine that Don, like other entertainers who book these types of shows, will receive a set fee. A little bit of common sense tells us he will not keep all the money paid by the lucky patrons.

No matter who came up with the price tag or if any of it is going to charity, it still seems (to me) to be an obscene amount of money to charge for a concert, even with the added perks. But then again, I am cheap. I grew up really poor and I can pinch a penny until it screams.

Something about this whole thing just isn't sitting well with me. Even if I had the time and money....he's never done anything like this before, why now? What's next....the cruise ship thing? I'm a die hard Eagles fan....I don't know, I guess maybe I'm still grieving over the lose of Glenn/the band. Please don't attack me, these are just my thoughts......

I checked into past shows by the promoter - Runway Tours. Looks like Bon Jovi and FLA/GA Line have been doing this since last year. Prices are almost the same...

MaryCalifornia
03-12-2016, 12:28 AM
It will sell out, Don and the promoters don't care who buys the tix - die hard fans, corporate accounts entertaining clients, cheesy rich people trying to impress a date...I paid $550 I couldn't afford to see him (and his bandmates) in a room with 17,000 people, it's not a stretch to ask for $1,500 if it really is intimate and he's going to do some "storytelling" and you get free cocktails, etc... He could probably sell this out in cities all around the U.S.

I will admit that the timing of the promotion is unfortunate, due to the reasons the Eagles have been in the news headlines the past two months. This and the Carole King thing are coming off as ...odd for Don. I am going to assume that he is simply fulfilling business obligations he made many months ago.

BonJovi has been doing this for years, just Jon, not the other members. They seem to often sell out, but I agree, it is a huge amount of money for a weekend. It sounds fun, but I could never justify spending that amount of money. I do hope someone from this board can go!

03-12-2016, 01:17 PM
I just got an e-mail from Bon Jovi about Don's Runaway experience. I thought it kind of odd they would promote him, but I know Jon has always been a big fan of Don's. Or, maybe Jon has a stake in the Runaway tour business. It is named after one of his biggest songs. Either way, I certainly can't afford it !!

03-12-2016, 01:37 PM
It's a little too pricey for me as well. However, considering it's a three-day event i.e. a mini-vacation, I can see the appeal for some folks. If there were a few more perks included, it may seem like a better deal to me. But, when you put it in perspective, it's not like you are going to have the opportunity to hang out with Don for the weekend - you get to see him on stage in a somewhat intimate setting for a few hours and get an autograph and picture with him, which is probably a group picture. In any event, for those with the money and desire, I say go for it and have a great time!

OutlawManNJ
03-12-2016, 04:43 PM
It looks like the photo is per room...so if you have 2 people in your room then its you two and Don. Still way too much money. Ill pay $100 to see a show here and there but nobody is gonna get $1500 from me to "meet" them. Especially because i dont think they have much pleasure in doing it and basically do it for the money. But hey to each his own...

I find this a lot stranger than the Carole King thing. To me, that is not weird at all. This is a little more borderline, IMHO.

We have no idea when he even agreed to do this, so the timing may not have been anything he could have avoided. If others can do this kind of thing, why not Don?

Glennsallnighter
03-15-2016, 08:42 AM
I would say to anyone who loves Don and can get to this to go. I am so glad that I took the two opportunities that came my way to see Glenn  live solo shows and I am so glad that I did now. The timing will never be perfect, and there is expense that has to be budgeted for obviously, but if I had held off perhaps until the kids were older, or I was in a better financial position (or even in the case of LA for when I was on school holidays) I would be sitting here today regretting the missed opportunities.

The one thing that the last 2 months has hammered home to me is that life is NOT a dress rehearsal - we don't know what is around the next corner so don't look back and regret the things you didn't do.

If you have the money, the time, and the desire - go for it!

I know many find this kind of thing distasteful but it's pretty much the only way a fan can speak to Don, even for just a few seconds, unless you're very lucky. I don't regret for a second paying to meet Stevie Nicks, although admittedly her proceeds went to charity. I would've paid even if she'd pocketed the money. Now she doesn't do them anymore, and there are many people disappointed that they'll never have the chance to meet her.

Don will be making 250 fans very happy - fans who would otherwise probably never get anywhere near him. If I hadn't met him before, I'd probably be trying to figure out a way to go myself.

The other day I happened to come across an interview with Don Henley that took place in Phoenix October 2015 the night before his 1st concert on the Cass County tour. It was a very good discussion - Don is a wonderful story teller and certainly doesn't hold back when explaining his position on various issues and concerns. I especially appreciated his patience and measured tone when responding to the interviewer who got it wrong about his voice ;-)

To be sure this is a unique venue that comes with an expensive price tag - if fans want and can afford to go I think it's wonderful and hope they have a great experience!

Well it won't hurt to ask. You never know. It may helped to know that the fans want to see a tribute of Glenn and how much we do love him. I think that's a great question. You know there's going to be crazy and stupid questions, but this one is serious and all the fans wants to know if their will be a tribute to Glenn. All he can say is yes or no of course with his statement of why. That's just Don. I guess Cindy might have to agree to it too, but I don't know on that.

We only have Don tomorrow night. Tonight they had a welcome party with appetizers, drinks, a dj & dancing. It was for the fans to get together & visit. It was Don's solo songs & Eagles songs being played so at times it was emotional for VA & me to listen. The president of Runaway Tours spoke & said they were happy to have Don on board with them & depending on how tomorrow night goes, Don has expressed interest in doing this 3 or 4 more times. He said Don & the band have been practicing since Wednesday and are excited. And he talked about how this all became an option when Irving Azoff became Jon Bon Jovi's manager. That was news to me.
