That's cool that they did PEF. I've never heard of the band before, but I might look into them.

I shopped at Kmart yesterday. I noticed that their popular brand for young ladies and young men is called Route 66.

They posted it on their FB page a few days after Glenn passed and it was such a nice cover. :)

Also I forgot to post this in my post this morning but also found out my personal favorite of Old Dominion, Trevor Rosen, is also from Detroit!!! LOL :D The rest of the guys are from Virginia, thus the band's name as it's the state's nickname, but part of Trevor's family is from there too.

One of my new summer shows I really like "Dead of Summer" is set in 1989 and it's a horror/80s film anthology show from some of my favorite writers who wrote for LOST and created "Once Upon a Time," and they have a character on there named Alex and he reminds me so much of Glenn. LOL  I noticed it in the pilot episode last week with how he was dressed and was very assertive, charming with the girls, always having his sunglasses, and the dark, wavy 80s hair. :smitten: Then last night's episode was Alex's flashback episode and like I expected he's got a sad backstory and why he came to create this persona of his. The whole time I was watching the episode Glenn's "You Belong to the City" was stuck in my head as that fits this character so much. Especially since Alex's main advice and mantra he keeps telling himself is "If you want something in this world you have to take it". Then I found a pic of the actor who plays Alex, Ronen Rubinstein, when he was on "Orange is the New Black" last year and his hair was so long and he was sitting on top of a car like a certain set of photos of 70s Glenn. ;-) Alex is also trying to win the heart of the shy, sweet girl too and he plays piano, so I have a new favorite on this show. :D

Buffy, you would make a fine casting director.

I have been told this many times. LOL  Even a few times by a couple authors who were asking on their FB pages for what actors we readers thought of to play their characters. It does come easily to me and even comparing people I know to celebs. Maybe it's the writer in me too as I cast in my head who's playing the characters but I do pay a lot of attention to people's faces and expressions, including which actors could play siblings or parents/children.

My mom said that while I wasn't at home she was cleaning the garage and a guy in a lawn care truck parked across from our house shouted, "Don Henley can sing like nobody's business, man!" Why did this happen when I wasn't home?! I would've shouted back, "Yeah, man! He does!"

I assume your mama was playing Don Henley's music at the time, or did the guy just shout that spontaneously? :)

"The American West" that I mentioned earlier in the thread has had moments where I'm getting reminded of Eagles related things. Besides the "Desperado" album fitting the theme they started their docudrama show with the Jesse James and The James Gang. Some of the real life stories they've been telling have taken place in Texas and Nebraska. Then last night we finally got to Wyatt Earp's story starting and in Dodge City their hotel was called The Longbranch Saloon, and one of the people they interviewed was Mark Harmon who played Wyatt in a film and was Harry in "Let's Get Harry" with Glenn. :)

There's still 3 more episodes left and I'm really liking it. It's a cool mix of a drama series with actors actually acting out the story and interview segments with historians, writers, and actors who have portrayed these people and Robert Redford is hugely involved. Besides the James Gang and Wyatt Earp the show has also focused on Crazy Horse, Sitting Bull, General Custer, Presidents Grant & Hayes, Billy the Kid, the railroads, and various other people connected with them. It's possible it could get a 2nd season too since there are so many other Old West stories to tell like "Doolin Dalton", and since AMC already has two season of "The Making of the Mob" which is made by the same people who made this and "The Men Who Built America".

I love it too and I really like how Stephen David Entertainment is doing these shows. It's such a different take than a regular documentary or biopic. I too feel like I'm learning way more than I did in school, same with the "Making of the Mob" series.

The book I'm reading is a fictional book involving Elvis, which reminds me of Glenn's nickname he had for himself.

Reba McEntire will be the guest judge on America's Got Talent tonight. When I saw her, I thought of Don since he sang on her duets album.

I just watched the movie "Everybody Wants Some!!" and it's set in 1980 and I kept getting so many Eagles reminders especially as the hairstyles, facial hair, and outfits were totally from the "Long Run" era!!! LOL :D It's somewhat of a sequel to Richard Linklater's other film "Dazed and Confused" about a college baseball team in Texas and they actually did use Joe's song "All Night Long" in the film as well as many others from the late 70s and early 80s. I also saw in an article with Entertainment Weekly that Richard used the Eagles song "I Can't Tell You Why" on his playlist for the film and it has 500 songs total so it's safe to assume the entire "Long Run" album was on it.

But there were some funny similarities too with a scene where Tyler Hoechlin's character McReynolds got so mad after losing a game of ping pong to Blake Jenner's freshman character Jake and he started going off on the other characters till one yelled "Shut up Glenn! You're such a sore loser." Till that moment we didn't know McReynolds' first name and I burst out laughing as this Glenn also had the mustache!!! LOL

Then my personal favorite character Finnegan ended up being played by a newer actor named Glen Powell and there were two characters who reminded me of Joe Walsh including Wyatt Russell's character Wiloughby. Jake also reminded me of Randy & Timothy during a scene as one of the girls liked him because he was "the quiet, sweet one". And there was this crazy pitcher on the team that the others said he was like that because he was from Detroit. LOL

I loved it and it's been so long since I've seen a good baseball movie/comedy. :D

The first trailer for Marvel's "Iron Fist" came out at Comic Con last night and the actor who plays Iron Fist/Danny Rand, Finn Jones, kind of looks like 70s Don with the curly hair and the beard. :D I know he was on "Game of Thrones" recently but now is part of the Marvel Netflix shows and was the last missing piece for "The Defenders" miniseries that'll air next year and team up the four New York characters with "Daredevil", "Jessica Jones", and "Luke Cage". So there's another younger actor if they ever make an Eagles biopic. LOL :)

Yesterday, I stayed for the support English class after the regular English class was over with. I wanted to do some work and ask the teacher some questions since yesterday was the last class for my English course. As I started to look at what I had to do by Monday in all my classes, I started stressing out some. The amount of work was more than I had expected. My teacher saw me mutter a few comments to myself about this, so she came over to my computer to offer help and to calm me down. The first thing she told me was "Take it easy." I had to smile at the very commonly said, but usually unknown reference to the Eagles. That smile helped me to relax a bit, which helped me to realize that I needed to take my work one step at a time.

My favourite team Liverpool FC were playing second tier Huddersfield Town in a friendly game yesterday at Huddersfield's home stadium, which is now called The John Smith Stadium. This reminded me of the Eagles because they played this venue on the Hell Freezes Over tour back in 1996 when it was called the Alfred McAlpine Stadium.

Jonny, isn't there a brand of lager in Britain called John Smith? It's a delicious golden elixir as I hazily recall. Is that what the stadium is named for?

Jonny Come Lately
07-24-2016, 03:40 AM
Yup, a lot of these modern build (post-1990) stadia are named in deference to their sponsors, and some periodically change their names as sponsorship deals come to their end. The John Smith's Stadium is as a great example as the lager company gives its name to the third official title in the 22-year history of Huddersfield's new stadium (it was initially named the Alfred McAlpine after its builders and was then called the Galpharm Stadium, in deference to a medical company).

Some of these names make odd reading alongside the traditional names like Anfield, Villa Park and Old Trafford, and the names often give an idea as to which level the club plays at. At the very highest level, Arsenal and Manchester City's new stadia are named after the Emirates and Etihad airlines respectively, but as you move down the league ladder the names become less glamorous and in some cases a lot more silly. Cheltenham Town, for instance, play at the ridiculously titled 'World Of Smile Stadium' - not dentists, sadly! They make conservatories, apparently!

NightMistBlue
07-24-2016, 12:08 PM
It's the same in the U.S. unfortunately. The Dolphins Stadium where the Miami Dolphins play has gone through many name changes. People were annoyed when it was called Landshark Stadium for a time, after the beer co-owned by Eagles pal Jimmy Buffett. Many people thought it was silly and refused to use the name. At least it wasn't called Parrothead or Margaritaville Stadium.

Here, I saw the Eagles at what was once Allianz Arena, then Allphones Arena, now the Qudos Bank Arena. The old Entertainment Centre was called the Qantas Credit Union Arena when I saw them there for the last time.

The most famous example of a failed name change in the UK was when Newcastle United attempted to change the name of their iconic St James Park to Sports Direct Arena. The fans wouldn't have a bar of it.

A lot of people are disappointed with the corporate names stadiums now get. How many Verizon Wireless Arenas do you need?? And I refuse to call the New Orleans Arena "The Smoothie King Center."

That's the way it is, unfortunately. At least Azoff kept the traditional names of "The Forum" and "Madison Square Garden" on the venues he owns with Dolan.

I was listening to Timothy's "Expando" album earlier and it dawned on me that that there's a Contemporary Christian singer who sounds so much like him named Mark Schultz. Mark has the same high tenor voice and similar style of music, and has had a lot of hit Christian songs since 2000 like "He's my Son", "He Will Carry Me", "Walkin' Her Home", and "Letters from War" to name a few. Even did a cover of the 80s song "Kyrie Eleison" by Mr. Mister. I never noticed it till now even though I've known Mark's songs since I was in high school and Timothy's most of my life.

Update on the character/actor that reminds me of Glenn Ronen Rubinstein in the newer 80s set show "Dead of Summer" and that there was a scene where his character Alex finally took the girl he likes Amy to one of his favorite spots at the camp called Eagle Creek. :D I was excited as I ship the two together but knowing this is a horror/supernatural series that bad things were coming and took some crazy twists. Don't want to give too many spoilers away but after they almost were "together" their friends stopped them as it turns out Amy is possessed by a demon and used his feelings for Amy against him and was going to kill him!!! :woah:

I've been worried about them this whole time but hopefully with these final two episodes it'll go like I'm hoping as Amy is still in there and they are all banded together to try to save her and everyone else. I think Alex is the key to get Amy back but we'll see, and I just want them both to survive and be happy together.

Shun, did you and Soda enjoy your time in Memphis? I've been wanting to visit there for years; it's one of the most important musical places, as you know. But! It worries me a little that it might not be safe.

In other news, I was visiting Santa Cruz in the Channel Islands on Sunday, and asked the guide about Joe Walsh's connection to the island. He showed me where Joe lands in a helicopter every year to help the church in their festival. The island is considered a sacred place by many people.

OT: the fellow I rented my car from in L.A. met Glenn several years ago at a bar near Marina del Rey. He told me the name of the place, which I promptly forgot. Starts with a t? Anyway, the guy - a very tall man from Finland - reported that Glenn was short, friendly and very humble. The latter quality impressed him the most, that someone with that kind of fame and fortune would extend his hand and say, "Hi, I'm Glenn." This anecdote was prompted by my phone emitting a brief blast of "Seven Bridges Road" before I muted it. The Finn immediately identified it, from just a few seconds, which impressed me.

Soda and I had a lot of fun. I hate we didn't get to sit together, but I really enjoyed hanging with her and her showing me Memphis. We're not that far off in age. So it was cool to hang with someone who was close to my age.

Memphis is not really bad. I enjoyed there. We probably weren't in the "bad" part of the city. LOL With the protest that happened a month ago, I didn't see any while we were there. Their was suppose to be protest going on in Memphis, but I think they stayed by Graceland which is where they say they were going to protest at. It was for something else not with what happened.

Other than we wanted to get out of Memphis because their would be a lot of drunks on the road from the concert, I felt safe other than that.

Well, I'm sorry to bore you, FP but this was the first time I noticed the similarities....which as an artist I can clearly see. I said he looked a little like Glenn, especially around the eyes, eyebrows and nose - they are quite alike. His ears are larger while his mouth is smaller than Glenn's.

And as he's only 27 I think NMB's observations about the long hair and drooping moustache would fit Glenn's timeline which is why she picked that particular look.

I'm very tempted to do a mock-up of del Potro with the 'tache and long hair for fun which is why I posted in the first place.

That's what I noticed too DD as I'm usually drawn to people's eyes first and that's what I noticed with del Porto too. It's the eyes, nose, and facial structure but for me I notice it more with older Glenn. I'd personally love to see that mock up too. :)

Then I realized a couple Eagles songs could fit what Jake Owen's talking about in the chorus of his latest song "American Country Love Song". :D It's another reason why they influenced so many of today's country artists.

"And every town, in every place
There’s a boy who’s trying to take a chance
and dance and find a way to run away with her heart
In the back of an old Ford truck
In the bar, just looking for luck
In a pair of oh my blue eyes, let them fireworks start
That American country love song
Ain’t ever gonna quit playing on and on and on."

I saw a bit of the CMA Music Fest on TV last night (I assume it was this year's festival, not sure though) and was given a few Eagles reminders.

I noticed that Hank Williams Jr. played his song Born To Boogie, which reminded me of the Long Run outtake on Selected Works of the same name (IIRC Wikipedia states that the Eagles version was written by Williams, when it is a clearly different song - for one thing, Hank's song was released in 1987).

Another reminder was that Miranda Lambert was on, which reminded me of her vocal on Bramble Rose (my sister quite likes her so I played her the song, which she hadn't heard before).

However, the main thing that reminded me was how different the approach to country music is now. I know modern country is quite different from its more traditional forms. It reminded so much me of Don's views on country music and also his specific comment in Manchester - 'The music that comes out of Nashville now... that's not country!'.

Today in my Human Bio class, my professor had her Pandora up on the projector at the start of class. I saw that a station called "The Eagles (UK) Radio" was up there. I thought it was weird that it said that, and I thought about the Eagles. I just looked it up and the The Eagles (UK) were a British quartet that existed from 1958 to 1964.

I also thought her last name was pronounced like 'pray' or 'fray,' but nope, it's pronounced like 'fry' or 'Frey.' I'd rather not say her last name on here for you know, reasons. It did end in -rey, but I didn't think of Frey until she said her name.

Also, she allows us to pick a codename to post grades online, since she doesn't really use Canvas or Angel. I have a limit of 10 characters, so I was thinking of "TheLongRun" or "Desperado." I'd like to use my current username, but it's too long. And I don't want to shorten it to RCF for that instance. I have no problem w/ it on here. Anyways, I might pick the former, since I like that album better, unless there are any suggestions that come up here. I have until next Tuesday to decide.

I've come up with a short list of a few Eagles song titles that have 10 letters or fewer in total, assuming you don't use spaces (as in your 'TheLongRun' example). There aren't that many, as many of their songs have quite long titles with several words (e.g. Peaceful Easy Feeling, After The Thrill Is Gone and Frail Grasp On The Big Picture to name three), but these would fit along with the two you've already mentioned.

TakeItEasy
Earlybird
Tryin'
TwentyOne
OutlawMan
MyMan
JamesDean
Ol'55
LyinEyes
Visions
WastedTime
InTheCity
ThoseShoes
TheSadCafe
GetOverIt
HowLong
Somebody

Hope this helps! It looks weird to see the song titles typed out in this way, but it makes it easier to see how many characters each name has. I won't make any suggestions as it is your codename and it is ultimately your decision.

Thanks, JCL! TakeItEasy, Ol'55, InTheCity, ThoseShoes, TheSadCafe, and HowLong are pretty good, and I'll put those up under consideration. LyinEyes, WastedTime, and GetOverIt can make me look a little mischievous w/o any knowledge of the Eagles. I like the songs, but I don't think GetOverIt would look good next to a grade or test score. I'd pick OutlawMan if I was a dude, even though I like it a lot. The rest at first glance wouldn't necessarily scream Eagles. I'd pick Earlybird if I was a morning person and if I liked the song enough.

It's too bad that Don hardly has any songs w/ short song titles, other than 1 or 2 on each album that he has done. I also looked at Glenn's discography, and I didn't really see anything that jumped at me for a short song title other than Partytown. ETA: Just thought that Funk49 could work well.

Anyways, thank you very much again for taking the time to come up with a list!

Well the actor/character that reminds me on Glenn of "Dead of Summer" Alex (played by Ronen Rubinstein) got killed off in the finale last night but it is a horror series so I should've expected it. LOL :( Still sad though but he died a hero saving one of girls and his redemption arc coming full circle. Weird thing was that the other guy I liked on the show Garrett (played by Alberto Freeza) got killed off too almost the same way and ending up saving everyone else.

It is an anthology series and the writers already said if it gets renewed for season 2 it'll be set in 1970 and reuse the same actors in new roles as well as some new actors. Before getting cast as Alex, Ronen had his hair shoulder length and got it cut in a shorter 80s style for the show since season 1 was 1989. So I'm hoping if it happens he'll grow it back out again to fit the time period and look like 70s Glenn again. :D

Plus, I also love how close the cast is and the bromance that has formed between Ronen and as he's said on his social media pages "his brother from another mother" Alberto. Reminds me of Glenn & Don so much already.

Yeah, the season finale was last night. It was only 10 episodes and I got hooked quickly with all those twists. LOL The Alex character played by Ronen Rubinstein reminded me of 80s Glenn both having his hair and personality wise, and then I found out he was on "Orange is the New Black" last year and used to have the same long hair too as 70s Glenn and was driving an old Ford pickup truck in that ep. :)

As I mentioned in the TV show thread I've been finally watching "Gilmore Girls" and I'm close to halfway through season 2 and it dawned on me tonight why David Sutcliffe's (who plays Rory's father Christopher) voice sounded so familiar and it's because it sounds like Glenn's. :o David's voice is a bit higher pitched but the accent and just the way he says certain words and phrases sound the same. They don't look alike and David is actually Canadian but David doing an American Mid-Western accent sounds so much like Glenn. :D

So I usually keep up with Billy Crudup's movies since I saw him playing Russell in "Almost Famous" and he was based off Glenn, and found out this morning he's been casted in the film version of "The Flash" as Barry Allen's dad Henry!!! :yay: I've been a huge fan of "The Flash" since I was little and watched the 90s TV show with John Wesley Shipp with my parents, and then the "Justice League" 90s/early 2000s cartoon, and for the past 3 years the current "Flash" TV show with Grant Gustin. Barry's my 2nd favorite superhero after Batman. LOL So Billy's joining another of my fandoms.

Also what I love about this casting is that DC is doing the same as the current "Flash" TV show where Barry's father is played by an actor who already played a similar character. John, who was 90s Barry, now is Barry's father Henry (and in one of the alternative universe Earths is still The Flash), and Billy also played a similar character of a scientist who gets struck by lightning and gets superpowers in "Watchmen" (which is also a DC comic but different universe). :D I get so emotional seeing John play Barry's dad and I know I'm going to now with Billy playing Ezra Miller's version of Barry's dad and with how Billy played a version of Glenn.

So takes like father, like son to another level. :p

Just saw Sam Neill got casted in the 3rd "Thor" film from Marvel "Ragnarok" and they're being really secretive about who he's playing. A lot of us Marvel fans including me are thinking he's going to play one of the Norse gods and one of the main ones they haven't casted yet is the god Freyr (sometimes spelled Frey). I saw it was posted before about how Glenn's last name comes from this and it made me think of Glenn too with the casting.

Ragnarok in Norse myth is like the "end of days" for Asgard (the realm of the gods) so they have to band together to stop it. So it would make sense for us to see the other gods that haven't been shown yet in the other films like Freyr, his twin sister Freya the goddess of fate, Idun the goddess of the apples, and many more. They already have all the days of the week gods casted expect Freyr & Freya (though some think Friday might really be named after Frigga, who in the Marvel movies/comics is Thor and Loki's mom and Odin's wife). The others are Tyr (Tuesday), Odin (Wednesday), and Thor (Thursday). Plus the other gods and goddess like Loki, Sif, and Hela. So I'm really hoping we'll finally have the twins in this.

Him: What one you want to hear?

Him: I can't remember which ones he sang.
Me: Take It Easy, Lyin'Eyes, New Kid in Town

My friend plays and sings Lyin' Eyes in full on his guitar, without missing a beat. He's not Glenn Frey, but he did a great job.

My riding partner used to work for a living
He'd take the backseat of all that he was given
He'd let you rise and take the fall
He was my favorite friend of all

My old muchacho
Loved to dress for each occasion
Without that rocket shell taking me in the right direction
Those crooked eyes that knew it all
Was my favorite friend of all
He was my favorite friend of all

He's wearing jeans on jeans

Yep, NMB, you have a good memory. I had to look it up--it's on p. 185 of Marc Eliot's "To The Limit":

There was a fair amount of Bernie Leadon and Doug Dillard content in John Einarson's 2005 biography of Gene Clark. Dillard was a huge influence on Bernie; the latter basically hunted Doug down and said, "Teach me everything you know!" about the banjo.

Two things last night with first the story of the bald eagle that got stuck in a Florida sewer drain and the other bald eagle that alerted the humans and stayed with the one stuck till they were able to rescue them.

Then on "DC's Legends of Tomorrow" they time traveled to 1987 and part of the episode was set in Miami and they did a great homage to "Miami Vice" and the season's main villains got caught at first smuggling what they thought were drugs and weapons but turned out to be a mystical/sci-fi weapon. The whole thing made me think of Glenn's episode of "Miami Vice" and "Smuggler's Blues". Plus not to mention all the 80s music, fashion, and references in the episode and next week they're going back to the Old West again to stop the gang that been terrorizing Jonah Hex's town.

That's an interesting question, JCL. There are 3 possibilities, I think-- "Witchy Woman" "Take the Devil" and "Good Day in Hell." There's a new country rock band that's starting to get big called Midland and they are already being compared to the Eagles and after listening to them I can see why. :D

It all started last night as my uncle posted on FaceBook an article talking about Midland and how he's loving their bringing a more traditional country sound back to today's country music. My Dad saw this post and ended up listening to them and then proceeded to get my Mom, brother, and I to listen to them too and he himself was comparing them to the Eagles and instantly liked them. They really do have a very similar Eagles style harmonies mixed with traditional country sounds of George Strait and Alan Jackson, and all three of the band members are from Texas. They aren't really that young either as 2 of the members are 37 and the other is 31, but their 1st album is coming out later this year.

The other things that I found funny with the similarities was that their band photos of them look like the early Eagles ones as they are in the desert wearing jeans, denim shirts, and boots, and two of the members have mustaches. ;-) Also, turns out the lead singer used to be a model for Calvin Kline, which I didn't expect. LOL

Then I got my latest issue of Entertainment Weekly today and they had an article talking about 10 new artists/musicians to look out for this year and Midland was one of them, and they too compared them to the Eagles. Their article is online here too:

However, it looks like a rival supermarket has been selling vinyl, including HC for at least a year: http://thevinylfactory.com/news/tesco-to-stock-a-range-of-vinyl-records-after-trial-success/

Interesting! Even though Tesco got in first, I think Sainsburys have a better selection - even as a Gilmour fan I'm not sure how much long term demand there will be for an album like Rattle That Lock on vinyl, whereas the only recent album Sainsburys has is Adele 25, a massive hit. Sainsburys also seems to have more classic albums, such as Led Zeppelin I and IV (Tesco only offers L. Z. II) and Abbey Road by The Beatles as well as Sgt Pepper. It's interesting that both sell HC, as I noticed that Tesco stocks Fleetwood Mac's Greatest Hits, whereas Sainsburys has the Rumours album.

I just finished reading Neil Gaiman's "Norse Mythology", his retelling of the Norse god & goddess' stories in modern English, and it was great. :D I love reading about the various mythologies and especially Norse myth from being a fan of Marvel Comics and the "Thor" movies, and of course I was paying attention to how he wrote the the god Frey (sometimes spelled Freyr) and his twin sister the goddess Freya. Frey is depicted as a being a god pretty much everyone loves, especially those of us in Midguard/Earth as he controls the weather, the seasons, the harvest in the fall, and this part stood out as "he's responsible for giving the humans their peaceful days and nights". ;)

Frey also got his own solo story about how even though he had all these possessions, the love of all the gods, humans, and creatures, he was still missing something in his life and that was love and a family of his own. It was the most romantic of the stories included as Frey finally met his wife Gerd. :inlove: It was so nice to read, as most are very dark but also comical at times. And apparently one of their sons was supposedly the first king of Sweden.

Then Frey's twin sister Freya was awesome. :D She stood up for herself and couldn't stand Loki at all (and he's my favorite in the Thor movies LOL) and never fell for any of his tricks. It's nice seeing a strong woman depicted in this especially how these myths were written in ancient times. In Marvel Comics she's sometimes a villain, so it was nice seeing how she was originally written.

This is very much a reminder by association. I was watching something on Roy Orbison and "Pretty Woman". Of course, Orbison opened for the Eagles on one of their tours. Then there was an interview with James Burton who played with Orbison and Elvis but also did studio work including an album for a duo called Longbranch Pennywhistle. Burton talks about Black& White Night and there's a clip of Burton playing with Orbison and Bruce Springsteen. Surely that's JD Souther with guitar and singing backup? Wait a minute, isn't that Jackson Browne? What a pity there weren't any Eagles present.
Here's a clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUCdKjyMbaY

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but...I was driving out of town for work the other day, through a rural area, and listening to the Eagles, as I always do when I drive long distance. The Last Resort was playing and there right in front of me was a big sign that said "JESUS IS COMING!" - right before the line in the song. I burst out laughing so hard I'm lucky I didn't veer off the road.

I was watching an interview with British actor Rufus Sewell talking about what helped him prepare for him playing Lord Melbourne on "Victoria", the ITV/PBS show about Queen Victoria's life, and Rufus brought up that while studying Lord Melbourne's life he noticed how similar his early years in the Regency time period was to that of the late 1960s and 70s music scene in California. Lord Melbourne went to school and was close friends with Lord Byron, Percy Shelly, and many other poets and artists who got famous and had a similar lifestyle to what we would attribute to rock stars. LOL And then the whole scandal with Lord Melbourne's wife having an affair with Byron. So I totally get why Rufus said he drew inspiration from the 60s/70s music scene and playing Lord Melbourne, by the time Queen Victoria knew him as the Prime Minister and her advisor, as much reformed and wiser from that but stories and rumors still around that she had questions about. LOL :)

In my latest issue of Entertainment Weekly I got today they had a new article talking about the rise of bands coming back in modern day country music including some of my current favorite country bands Old Dominion, Midland, and LanCo. The article talked about how they and other bands are bringing back the Laurel Canyon country-rock sound back to country music (since that wouldn't be considered rock music anymore) and of course made me think of the Eagles and why I'm probably drawn to this newer music.

I was walking back to my office with my boss after a business lunch the other day and my boss looked up in the sky and said "Look! An eagle!" Sure enough there was an eagle flying over our heads. This made me think of Glenn's story in the HOTE documentary about seeing an eagle when they were at Joshua Tree shooting the cover for their first album. Of course, I'd much rather this happened with the band in the California desert than in the cold with my boss! :)

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but here goes.... This weekend while we were traveling up through Kansas for my son's football game we stopped off in Coffeyville. (We all love the old west and all things history.) We saw the bank that the Dalton Gang robbed and "Death Alley" where most of them met their deaths. They have a Dalton Gang Defenders Museum there, with all things Coffeyville to view. We saw the photo of the gang lying dead on the ground after the battle was over that the Eagles mimicked for their Desperado cover. The real photo actually shows a hole in the fence behind the bodies with a small boy looking through (I never knew that or seen it before) we were told it was the doctor's, who attended the gang, son. I immediately had to pull up a picture of the album cover to see which Eagle member was which gang member. (I know, I'm a little strange...) Of course the Eagles had one more person than the Dalton Gang did. It was all pretty interesting if you are into that sort of thing.

I'm a theater costume designer and was recently hired for a gig that is a 2-hour drive from my home in Vermont.A funny adventure happened on the way to the theater:
I was about 3/4 of a mile from my exit just past White River Junction,VT driving in the fast lane, or the passing lane as they call it in Vermont and had just passed a car. Coincidentally, I was putting in CD #2 of The Very Best of the Eagles.
I was only going 72mph, which is my usual speed on the interstate. A vehicle was in my blind spot, but slowed down. So I sped up and pulled into the driving lane. That vehicle was then behind me.
Lo & behold, it was a Vermont State Trooper.
Sure enough, he pulled me over. I thought, maybe, when I was putting the CD in it looked like I was texting & driving.
He was a nice guy. Trooper Thompson was his name. I hadn't done anything wrong. Turns out, the DMV thinks that my license expired in 2012, the year I got my California license, when we moved back there, which I'm still using.
He chit chatted with me for a minute, checked that everything was okay, and sent me on my merry way.
I wasn't speeding, wasn't on my way to a poker game with a drug dealer, no drugs in the car. Although, "Life in the Fast Lane" was playing on the CD.:grooving:
AND....
For my day job, I work in a shoe store. Every time I see a certain pair of sandal, I always sing (in my head) "got those pretty little straps around your ankles". And yes, I am going to buy 2 pair--one for everyday and one for my daughter's wedding :):grooving::inlove:

Today all the children's choirs sung in church. They are big - one is the really little kids up to kindergarten and that had like 30 kids, and the one with all the elementary school kids had about 60!

So all these kids' parents have come to hear their babies sing and as soon as the little ones begin "Hark the Herald Angels Sing", about 20 phones shoot up in the air to record them. With the larger choir, it's twice that number.

And all I could think was "Good thing this isn't an Eagles concert or security would be all over these people!" I imagined Don sitting in a pew behind one of them, scowling disapprovingly but unable to force them to put the phone away, and I had to bite my lip to keep from laughing.

Well - I had an interesting day. I work in downtown Richmond, and a new building is being built next to the one I work in. The construction workers apparently really messed up today and caused a water main to burst. We got an alert from our building management company that the parking decks in our building were starting to flood and suggesting we may want to move our cars. So - the first question on everyone's mind was move our car to where? Like most cities, in downtown Richmond, you just can't move your car to another parking deck or park on the street. Long story short - our management reached out to try to get more information and there was none. When our director came out to tell us this - she said she didn't have a 'peaceful, easy feeling' about the lack of information. I don't know if she had a clue about the song or not. But, of course, it brought a little smile to my face, in spite of the tense situation. She told us if we had work that we could do at home that we should leave. So, I worked from home this afternoon. When I left, there was about 8 inches of water in one part of the deck, but, thankfully, I was parked in an area that it hadn't reached yet. I still have not heard any update about the extent of the flooding or if they were able to shut off the water main. But, to say the least, it wasn't a 'business as usual' kind of Monday.

So I decided to go back and watch a few episodes. especially when I really wasn't feeling the first episode at first. I missed a lot of stuff in the first episode.

As I was watching a scene where the two main characters Brad and Amy were at the carnival and I heard "so put me on a highway" and I was like wait I know that song. They were playing Take It To The Limit (with a woman singing it) in the background. I don't know how I missed that the first time I watched that episode. They also played the Chain.

Well, they have pretty good taste in music, shun.

I went to my 4-year old nephew's first tee-ball game yesterday and it was a hoot. During the game, we were chatting with some other families and one of the older sisters of one of the players told us a joke. She said 'I only know 25 letters of the alphabet, but I can't tell you why'. We all laughed and thought it was very cute. However, more importantly for me, was the little thing that reminded me of the Eagles. The little girl must have been around seven, so I'm sure she was totally unaware of the significance, but my older niece immediately looked at me and grinned.

It's a good show. I'm going to buy the books and read all three of them. I'm hoping its renewed. I enjoyed watching it.

I was watching another episode yesterday and they played Doctor My Eyes.

Wow - I had a HUGE distraction all day at work. There is a wavy, brown-haired guy who sits at a station not too far from mine. He was wearing a purple shirt that was almost exactly the same style and color of this ...

sans the white t-shirt - but he was wearing jeans. From my station, whenever I look up, I can see this guy's back. He doesn't look anything like Glenn from the front, but with that shirt, he looked exactly like Glenn from the back. It was hard to concentrate with that right in front of my eyes - I thought I was going to have to find an excuse to move to the other side of the floor. I hope I don't have to ask him not to wear that shirt again.

Monday night my Kevin & I threw a housewarming party with a few friends to celebrate moving back to our hometown of Riverside, California. We all got into a discussion about another dear friend, Bill, who sadly is in the advanced stages of dementia, and how he was always quick with giving sagely advice.
I recalled a time back in 1977 when I ran into Bill just before my ex & I were about to move from California to Iowa. Bill said,
"IOWA??? Okay, but you know what they say about California...You can check out anytime you'd like, but you can never leave".:heart:

That is becoming such a classic quote Martha!
I was in a pub (bar) at about 11 O'Clock this morning. Its not that bad - many pubs open early and serve breakfast, so we had been out walking and stopped off for a cuppa. Anyway thos active retirement group of men started a singsong. One of the songs they were singing was Wild Mountain Thyme.

Here's a link to the resolution of the kerfluffle:

An outdoor clothing retailer known for its irreverent approach has apologized to Eagles singer Don Henley and made a charitable donation to resolve a California lawsuit over its use of his name for an upscale T-shirt.

An advertisement featuring the slogan “Don a Henley and Take It Easy,” riffing on the title of an early hit by the band, “was inappropriate,” says Duluth Trading Co. on its website. “For that we are deeply regretful and we apologize, not just to Mr. Henley, but to anyone else who took offense. We have learned a valuable lesson and thank Mr. Henley for helping us appreciate the importance that he and other artists place in their publicity rights.”

Henley has tradmarked his name and routinely refuses to allow his persona or music to be used for commercial purposes, reports the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Scribd provides a copy of the complaint, which was filed last year by Loeb & Loeb on Henley’s behalf against the Wisconsin-based clothier in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. Exhibits include an image of the offending ad for the shirt.

It isn’t known how much Duluth Trading Co donated to Walden Woods Project to settle the suit. The settlement also includes an agreed permanent injunction that bars the company from using Henley’s name, the Hollywood Reporter notes.
