Very cool MarthaJo!

on a side note...The Office episode with Eagles ice cream flavors Was on the other day lol:laugh:

I watched WACO on Netflix and decided to read Thibedeau’s book, which is loooong :dizzy: But I was surprised when he mentioned The Eagles! He was debating whether he should leave David Koresh and said he found himself singing Hotel California “you can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave”. I was surprised! Wasn’t expecting that!

That's very cool, MJ - I bet it is some yummy vino!

And KW - I would have been shocked about the Eagles reference in the book too. I guess it was true, though.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this, but I watched an episode of the tv show Mom and there was a big mention of the eagles! One of the characters went to an eagles concert and talked about meeting Don and Joe, and even talked about seeing The Long Run tour, people yelling "Where's Randy?" and seeing Timothy sing ICTYW for the first time. There was also a Hotel California era tshirt. It was great!

Hey Groupie ! I saw that episode in the fall. It was great ! I loved that Eagles t-shirt the Mom(Allison Janey) wore. I wish I could get one like that.

Hi New Kid! I know, I'd love a shirt like that too! The writers must be eagles fans, to know about people yelling "Where's Randy" during the Long Run tour. It was great!

I remember watching that episode of Mom after someone posted about it here on the board, but I can't remember what Allison Janney's Eagles tee shirt looked like. I did a quick web search, but didn't find anything. Anyone have a picture, by chance?

Dreamer, it was a three quarters sleeve baseball jersey. It's been a long time since since I saw the episode, but I think it said "The Long Run Tour" or something like that. Sorry I can't provide a picture.

I'm reading a book right now that takes place over several decades and it's on the 70s now...for the chapter that took place in 1973, it mentioned Desperado and in 1977, it mentioned Hotel California!

There is a dollar tree store that I like to shop at that is across the street from my preferred Walmart. In order to get to the Walmart, I have to cross a parking lot that has an ice cream shop in it. The shop's name is "Schmidt's",Iknow it's not technically spelled right, but whenever i walk by it, Love will keep us alive pops into my head.

Doesn't take much for us hard cores to be reminded of the band or one of the members. I saw a picture of Jimmy Page playing a double-neck guitar a few days ago, but, immediately, my mind went to Don Felder playing Hotel California.

When I was grocery shopping yesterday I spotted a bottle of wine with a nice label that simply said Frey. The Frey vineyards are located in Redwood Valley, California. I saw another bottle that reminded me of the Eagles in a roundabout way. It is called CA, just like our Border friend!

I apologize if this has been discussed before. I did a quick search and didn't see a thread for it, and I figured that this thread was the best place for it.

One of my professors sent me a Jethro Tull song called We Used to Know, and he asked me what it sounded like to me. I couldn't figure it out, and he said it's Hotel California. I can hear some similarities (which is why I placed it in this thread), but I don't know. So, I'm curious as to what y'all think.

I have read where some (including Tull) have said Tull's song as the instrumental inspiration due to slight similarities and the fact that Eagles opened for him years before. But Felder wrote the music, and he wasn't with them then. Personally, I don't hear it, and think Tull was flattering himself. But, full disclosure: I never liked Jethro Tull at all. Weird.:yuck:

I agree with everything you said FF. I have never heard any similarity either.

Over the years, Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull has hinted that there was plagiarism, but eventually backed away from that claim. Here is a link to a 2009 interview where Anderson acknowledges that it is nothing more than a similar chord progression. Scroll about halfway down to find the question about Hotel California ...

The similarity I noted was the opening of Tull's song- the first 30 seconds. I didn't hear it at first, but once my professor said Hotel California, my brain made a connection. I don't agree with my prof that it is Hotel California, though. Like Ian Anderson said in that interview Dreamer posted, it's hard to create truly 100% new music anymore.

:hilarious:, true. This professor loves to test my knowledge of all things from the 1970s because that's one of his areas in history. I'll find something else to test him on soon, lol.
Also, this professor has more than once made direct references to the Eagles and Glenn in class before, as a means of keeping my attention and confusing other students, lol. (He's been with me from the start, and I'll be taking my 10th class with him in the spring.) For example, one time when discussing research and writing, he said something to the effect of "It's just like the Eagles. They rehearse songs several dozen times before preforming them. They don't just write them and become able to instantly play the songs perfectly. It takes practice and hard work to make it. The work ethic can be used in any situation. Write draft, edit it, write another one, edit it, and so on."

I obviously can't speak for all college students (especially as I'm a few years older than most ungrad students), but I'm sure a few will get the references. If not, well, there's a learning opportunity. Who knows, maybe some will Google what you're talking about and become fans.

I took it to mean that 2020 has dragged on for so long, so people can't wait for it to leave it behind. I don't think Covid-19 will ever leave (probably be like the flu), so that also could work. We can "check out" (with a vaccine), but we can never leave (eradicate it). Maybe, I'm reading to much into this joke, though.

A little thing that reminds me of the Eagles is the fact that the strap on my guitar is roughly the same shade of tan that was used on the cover of HFO. Wasn't chosen on purpose for the color, the strap was a birthday present from my grandparents after I got into playing guitar as a teen. It just happened to be that shade of tan. :) It's still on the guitar.

Also, a little story I've told several times, and I remember it when I look back on my high school years: I had a science teacher who worked security for both the dates they were in Charlotte, NC back in I think '96. I was in 10th grade, and would have given just about anything to go to one of those shows. Didn't get to go. He rubbed it in my face the rest of the year that not only did he go to both, he got paid to do it!

While I was at Walmart the other day, I saw a pj top that simply said "Take It Easy". Hopefully going to buy that when I get paid.

And earlier today I saw a guy wearing a Dallas Cowboy jacket on the metro train. It was strange to see that particular team on this random guy's jacket, as I was en route to return the Don Henley cd to the library. *cue The Twilight Zone music*

Today I worked security at a Mexican rodeo and concert. I was in charge of guarding this tiny alcove leading to the backstage area where the musicians had their tour buses. It was going pretty normal until the end of the night when a mass of people swarmed the alcove and had me pinned against a wall for what seemed like forever. The crowd consisted of mostly women, and they would go berserk whenever a band member appeared. One girl told me that she simply had to get backstage because the lead singer "was her husband" It had me laughing because I wondered if this is what the backstage area looked like at an Eagles concert in the 1970s.

Back in June I was working the front doors of the Maverik Center sports arena in West Valley City, which is a suburb of Salt Lake. We were having high school graduations and I was at a door doing crowd control. When this kid about 12 years old walks in wearing a Eagles: Hotel California 2022 tour tee on. My eyes popped out of my head and I told him I loved the t-shirt and asked if he went to the show the other night. He enthusiastically said "yes! that's where I got this shirt!" I tried very hard to control myself but I did squeal a little bit. I asked how it was and the boy said "it was so so good, they sounded amazing"
Love it when the next generation is into the same music as me. It just reminds me how much music connects us all.

Seems as if so many times I’m reminded of Glenn these days.

Last night I went to see Almost Famous on Broadway. Really enjoyed it, and it’s a shame that it’s closing so soon. I thought the critics were unfair to it.

Anyway, we all know the Russell character was at least partially based on Glenn. But when he came on stage, he was wearing a black satin jacket that looked exactly like the ones they used to have with the E on it. Underneath was a U of M t-shirt. He then said they were from a small town in Michigan 😁. And then later on, he had the Chuck Berry shirt on that Glenn wore in those plane pictures that Henry Diltz took. Only difference was that there was black piping around the sleeves. Also a sweatband on his right wrist, and a necklace that looked a lot like the Eagles ones they used to wear. I am positive Cameron Crowe had to have had some input into wardrobe, since he was quite involved in the musical.

It made me laugh that I was pretty sure no one else was picking up on Russell’s clothing choices, but I’m sure it was deliberate. Miss you, Glenn ❤️❤️

Jimmy Fallon was there, and they pulled him up on stage for the curtain call, which was fun…

Those wardrobe choices could not have been incidental! I didn't know/remember that they were making a play based on Almost Famous. Sorry it didn't work out.

Good to hear from you, NYC Fan. I'm sure those costumes were no accident either. What would have sealed the deal is if Russell had worn a 'Ford' tee shirt like Glenn. BTW - I wasn't aware of the Almost Famous Broadway show either. Too bad it didn't have a 'long run'.

Yeah, it has not been on Broadway for too long. Just a couple of months I think. It's a shame it is closing but quite a few shows have announced closings. Apparently they are not making enough money to keep them going.
Count me as one who thinks those clothes choices were not a mistake. Cameron had to have some kind of say in the clothes worn for the show. Very cool for you NYC Fan !
