Time for The Long Run Song Survivor! If you're new, for a basic overview of the game, see this post: Survivor Overview (https://eaglesonlinecentral.com/forum/showpost.php?p=6551&postcount=7%20%5B/)

I'm going to list the songs of The Long Run here. Vote for the song that you feel should be eliminated from the list. The song that gets the most votes will be taken off of the list (or, in the language of Survivor, "Voted off of the island.") Each round, one more song will get axed, until there's only one left. Remember: you're voting for your LEAST favorite, not your favorite.

Each round will last 48 hours after posting to give people a chance to vote who don't post every day. That means that the first round will end at 8:00 Eastern time the day after tomorrow. If you miss a round, don't think you can't play. It's all good!

Since there may be discussion posts, be sure to make it clear when you are casting your vote. Votes cannot be cast after the cut off time of 8:00 on the second day, and they cannot be changed once you have voted.

While these games can get heated, remember it's all in good fun. You can debate the merits of a song, but don't badger people who don't vote the same way you do. The administrator and moderators reserve the right to take action if they determine that someone is behaving disruptively, nastily, or otherwise inappropriately.

If you get confused about what round we are in, look at this post. I'll always update it to reflect the current round. Also feel free to post any questions if you don't understand what's going on.

If there is a tiebreaker, then ALL votes from ALL previous rounds are tallied and whoever has the most prior votes is eliminated. That’s the way it’s done on the real show, that’s the way it’s done here. If there is a complete tie with prior votes (Murphy’s Law), then I'll have a sudden-death trivia question ready. The first person who answers it correctly gets to break the tie. The odds of that happening are slim, but you never know, and it's good to be prepared.

The tie-breaker question will be asked one hour after results are in, if there is need for it. The exception is the last round. If the tie-breaker does not resolve the last round, then the tie will be allowed to stand.

Note: In order to avoid voter fraud and trolling, we require that you must be "a member in good standing" as defined by the Terms of Service for at least two weeks before the start of the game in order to cast a vote.

So now – let’s have some fun and enjoy the game.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WINNER:

HEARTACHE TONIGHT!!!

I'll go with "Disco Strangler" also, but I don't think there's a ton of difference in quality between it, "Teenage Jail" and "The Greeks Don't Want No Freaks." Admittedly, I really like all of them a lot, but to me, they represent the weakest tracks on the album.

There are a couple of songs by the band that I find laugh out loud terrible("Nightingale" and "Love Will Keep Us Alive") and also a couple for which I simply do not care(studio version of "Saturday Night" and "Get Over it").

"Teenage Jail," however, is the one Eagles song I completely and unreservedly detest. I wholeheartedly vote it off the island.

And now for my defence of 'Disco Strangler': Think of it more as a Henley solo song, as opposed to an Eagles song. At that point, the song might not suffer as much from inflated expectations that come with the listening of an 'Eagles' song. Short, simple, and skeweringly to the point--Very much in the same vein as the Punk bands of that era(Captain Sensible, Clash, Ramones, Sex Pistols, etc) Lyrics aptly sum up the darkest aspects of the dance/party scene in the city. The guitars perfectly compliment those lacerating lyrics(outside the chorus, the chord for the song is one finger on one higher-pitched string towards the top of the guitar neck) Probably one of the truly unsung greats by America's best, and very much in need of a re-appraisal.

I like all of those you list WS82 except Saturday Night. Especially GOI.

Now here's my words of support for Teenage Jail. I think the riff and the "whacked out" solo by Felder are very dark and haunting and I actually like the song. I think it and Greeks are above Disco Strangler by quite a bit.

I had a guy tell me it was his favorite Eagles song.

I too love Felder's solo in Teenage Jail.

He himself (per his book), hates it because it wasn't well rehearsed and he was chemically enhanced. Me, I love it. It's totally scatterbrained much like the Stones' Sympathy For The Devil and I love that.

As an Eagles song or a Henley solo song, I detest DS. Sorry WS82C, I couldn't use the word "perfect" in any way to describe this song. It is the only Eagles song that I hate. As I have said before, to me most of it sounds like there are two different songs that don't compliment each other being played at the same time.

Therefore I vote Disco Strangler.

Since the likelihood of The Disco Strangler, Teenage Jail, and 'Greeks' being eliminated in these first three rounds is fairly high, I'm going to cast a strategic vote in the event of a tie in a future round. Personally, I would've voted The Disco Strangler first because Henley sounds annoying when he says, "Look at me, baby, look at me. I'm beautiful, I'm beautiful, I'm somebody." I know it's supposed to be annoying on purpose, but I can't get past that. I don't mind the drums on it, but in the end, no.

However, my vote goes to "Those Shoes" for strategic purposes, not quality of song during this round.

On a brief side note, I wish that the Eagles would release deluxe versions of their albums, like how Fleetwood Mac's been doing lately. I would love to hear early versions of these songs, especially "King of Hollywood." Sorry for this off-topic comment. If it's better to put it under the 'Celebration' thread, let me know and I'll say it there and edit this part out.

I had a guy tell me it was his favorite Eagles song.

I agree with this - Teenage Jail is my favourite of the three oft-maligned songs from this album. I'm another one who loves Don F's solo, especially the blast of darkness that starts about 20 seconds before the end of the song, and I also like Glenn's zany synth solo. I have quite a dry and dark sense of humour so it also appeals to me in that sense! I also remember someone doing a blog with their top ten songs where TJ was ranked something like 7th or 8th. I wouldn't go that far, but I do like it a lot.

I'll join everyone else who's voted for The Disco Strangler. To be honest, I don't dislike the song - I personally find a song like The Ledge by Fleetwood Mac to be a lot more annoying than TDS. I also think WS82 makes some very good points in its defence. The directness of the song is appropriate given its subject matter and even the way Don sings the 'look at me baby' line (probably the most annoying vocal part he's ever done IMO) can be justified as we aren't meant to like the woman in the song. I've also grown to quite like the riff. However, it's not a song I tend to play if I'm not listening to the full album. The rhythm section sounds 'wonky' (it feels like Don and Tim are playing two different songs in places) and apart from the 'Rome is burning' line I don't think the lyrics are that great.

So, my first vote goes to The Disco Strangler.

I have to respectfully disagree with you on this, JCL. I like The Ledge, and I don't find it annoying. Is it Lindsey's best vocally? Probably not. I like the bass and drums on it. To me, it's a fun song to listen to.

Sorry for going off-topic w/ FM, but I just don't think that his work in Tusk is as annoying as The Disco Strangler. However, Empire State from Mirage is annoying to me. Also, his two solo albums from the 1980s, Law and Order & Go Insane, have some annoying songs. I could only tolerate a few songs each from those albums.

I like "Teenage Jail". As least it has a tune and the lyrics are relateable. I also likes the solos at the end.

I could cope with the lyrics for "Disco Strangler" if it had anything to offer musically. It has no hook, no melody and a repetitive backing track and even if that was intentional it doesn't make it any good. The Sex Pistols were "catchy" (don't you ever find yourself singing "we're so pretty oh so pretty vacant"?) but not this.

Neither The Disco Strangler or Teenage Jail sound like they were recorded by monkeys to me. In any case the monkeys were far too busy recording The Ledge for Fleetwood Mac. :p

(RCF, no problem if you don't agree with me on this (or anyone else), I was after all the one who first brought it up. In all seriousness, the main reason I've mentioned The Ledge is because to me it is a very disappointing and annoying track on the follow up release to a classic album, and therefore I think I feel about it compared to the Rumours album the way many Borderers feel about TDS after Hotel California. I probably won't mention it again now TDS has gone).

I didn't vote before, but I will now. I put in a defence for Teenage Jail last round, as I personally find there is a lot to like about the song - not least the menacing riff and atmosphere, and Glenn and Don F's zany solos. It also helps that appeals to my twisted sense of humour! I also enjoy Greeks, but apart from a few good guitar licks I don't think there's anything that really stands out about it. When I was listening to it while preparing for this game, my thoughts on the song were basically 'it's fun' and 'it rocks' - unlike just about every other song, I struggled to think of great moments or ideas.

So my vote goes to The Greeks Don't Want No Freaks, and I also propose the following coalition:

SAVE TEENAGE JAIL! VOTE FOR THE GREEKS DON'T WANT NO FREAKS!

I suspect it is highly likely one of these two will go next, but if you prefer Jail to Greeks I think it needs your vote to stand a chance so I would advise against voting strategically in this round if you agree with me (Admittedly when I was a teenager I spent a lot more time alone in my bedroom than I have ever done at frat parties, so that probably influenced my choice!).

Oh ok, JCL. I get where you're coming from. Because Rumours is their best album, it's odd and disappointing that they even did The Ledge. Yep, Lindsey unchained.

It never came to my thoughts that The Long Run was a disappointment compared to Hotel California, since I treat each album as separate entities rather than something that's building onto the next. Hmm, you have a point, JCL.

Indeed, I believe I once called it my least favourite Eagles song but as I've listened to it more and more it's really grown on me. Captures the dark mood of the album in general probably better than any other song and the guitar work is exemplary.

For me the next song to go has to be The Greeks Don't Want No Freaks - I think it is by a long way the weakest of the eight remaining songs, and every single one of the other seven songs beats Greeks easily.

AT, I think Greeks would have been easier to justify had The Long Run been released as a double album (as I believe was originally intended) which would have allowed the inclusion of one or two 'silly' songs which would have added a lighter touch to the album - for instance, the inclusion of Boogie With Stu on Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti, a song which is quite similar to Greeks in some ways (a slightly bizarre and 'old school' 50s/early 60s rock and roll type song), doesn't harm that double album at all IMO even though the song itself is not especially great. The problem with including a song of this nature on a 40-minute or so single album is that if there's only 8-10 songs then one of those spots is going to a 'fun but not great' song. I still like it, but I think it is one of their least important and least impressive songs.

I strongly agree with tlr about The Sad Café. I have always loved this song - indeed at one point it was the only song I loved from the album. I think I'd be trying to hold back the tears in The Sad Café itself if it went out before Greeks! Next round will be interesting I think once (hopefully) the last of the album's three oft-derided tunes goes.

My vote is for The Greeks Don't Want No Freaks - It's definitely the weakest song left in the game.
I agree with TLR and JCL, The Sad Café shouldn't be leaving the game at this stage as it is one of the strongest songs on the album along with King Of Hollywood - that song is a pure classic!

ETA: I didn't think much of Those Shoes either until I heard it live on the HOTE tour, and it was amazing especially the drumming - not sure how I can vote for the rest of the rounds now, I love all the remaining songs

"King of Hollywood" is right up there with "Journey of the Sorcerer," "New Kid in Town," and "Please Come Home for Christmas" as one of my favourite Eagles songs, and certainly the best of the deep tracks on the album.

The hits on the 'Long Run' album are incredibly stellar, as opposed to the hit selections on some of their other albums. No strategic voting for me--My least favourite has already been eliminated.

I'm not voting for it for some time yet, but I don't think that it's the classic that many say. It's a very nice track and a worthy single, but I wouldn't put it among my top 10 Eagles tracks. Not that I'm saying that others are 'wrong' in their opinion - musical preferences are subjective. If it were on Tim's latest album it would not, IMHO, be the best song on it.

I vote for The Long Run.

Even back when it was a radio hit, this song didn't enthrall me. It's not a bad song by any means; I just like it "ok." It has since lost points after I heard "Tryin' to Live My Life Without You" by R&B artist Otis Clay. I can't believe people squawk about HC and Jethro Tull, but not this.

What I love about King of Hollywood is the guitars and I mean the riffs throughout, not just the solos. And isn't it amazing to have all three guitarists play solos on the track and it to be close to seamless? The lyrics may be seedy but they paint a good picture of the 70s casting couch.

If it's a choice between Those Shoes and King of Hollywood, it has to be Those Shoes to go.

Beyond the eliminated TJ, we're strictly talking good songs. That said, I used to view "Those Shoes" as an utterly indispensable track that must make it onto every proper Eagles hits compilation. Indeed, I was miffed when "Greatest Hits, Volume 2" omitted it and "In the City," while including "The Sad Cafe" and "After the Thrill is Gone."(the latter might have been better as a selection for the '71-75' album)

Nowadays, I tend to view it as a somewhat tired excoriation of the celebrity-mad party scene that has devoured a girl or two I really liked. If it manages to lose out while the true paragon of sinisterness, "King of Hollywood," stays on for another round(as looks fairly likely right now), I would cheer.

Nothing against TS, though. Again, we're now debating 7 amazing tracks.

Hmmm.... really not sure how to vote this time around. I agree with WS82 about the album - I think all of the remaining songs are very strong, which makes it more difficult than the earlier rounds. I'll try and see if putting some thoughts down helps to me to decide.

As I've already stated I really love The Sad Café and would love to see it make a safe passage into the next round, although it doesn't seem in particular danger this round so far. However, Those Shoes is another of my favourites. I love the whole thing musically - the brilliant harmonised talk box guitars, Joe's awesome solo mid-song, the rhythm section. I also find it interesting from a lyrical perspective because it looks at the situation from both sides. Overall I think it's just an all-round awesome and unique track. If it's a straight fight between Those Shoes and King Of Hollywood, I think it's a toughie, because I've been enjoying KOH a lot lately. As others have said, the guitars are fantastic throughout the song.

I won't vote just yet, but I do think I'm a bit closer to knowing which song I will go for, which is useful.

I'm voting for These Shoes. It's not that I don't like the song, but I want King of Hollywood to make it to at least the last five choices. That means that I hope Those Shoes goes this round and The Sad Cafe goes the next. KOH would hopefully ultimately compete w/ TLR, HT, ITC, & ICTYW. I don't expect KOH to survive against those four, but I will vote to save it when it comes to that time. King of Hollywood is my favorite song on the album b/c it sounds different from their work and I love the eerie quality to it. I don't think the song is overly long, even though the drums and bass don't really variate much in the song, as far as I can tell. The guitars really make the song. However, the lyrics remind me of the Jack Woltz character from The Godfather book, so I get it that the lyrics that refer to a despicable & sleazy Hollywood producer aren't appealing to those who pay attention to the lyrics more.

It looks like Those Shoes will go this round, and I'd like to see it saved, but equally I can't quite bring myself to vote for King Of Hollywood either, the only song that I can see potentially toppling it. So I'll vote with a view to possible future eliminations.

I therefore vote for In The City. I think it's a great track, and I love it every bit as much as I do the others, but after listening to the album in full before the game I ranked it seventh out of tenth, so I'll go for it this time round. Partially due to this, and also partly because I think it is even better in a live setting, but also because I think the three hits don't seem likely to go soon, and there's no way I'm voting to eliminate The Sad Café!

It's funny because I don't think there's an Eagles song that has grown on me more than Those Shoes - I didn't really like it much when I first heard it, but then I started to enjoy it more and now it's one of my favourites!

True, there are many people who don't respond that way. I overstated. Speaking for myself, though, I always feel icky after listening to it. Its only virtue for me are the guitar solos.

UTW makes a good point that "Those Shoes" is also about Hollywood shallowness, but at least the women in "Those Shoes" seem to be fighting back. The women in "King of Hollywood" have been used, abused, and discarded.

I'd be willing to enter such a 'coalition,' but I must ask an important question in that regard: Which song are we going to coalesce behind as an alternative to ditching 'KoH'?

It would seem that the two logical choices, based upon their vote tallies last round, would be 'Long Run' and "In the City," both of which got two votes apiece last round. ItC, however, has gotten higher support in previous rounds when the fights haven't been as pitched and as in doubt as they were last time around.

So, let's get this thing settled and brought to fruition!

I may could have been persuaded to join a coalition if In the City had been targeted. But, there is no way I want to see The Long Run eliminated – I love that song. King of Hollywood is a good song, but I don’t think it’s better than most of the other songs left in the game. I personally think it’s time for it to go and urge everyone to save The Long Run. So …

I cast my vote for King of Hollywood.

Including me, there's eight of us wanting KOH to go further in this Survivor.
Five of those have voted since declaring they were in favour of a coalition, so that leaves three still to vote.

So far this round KOH has 8 votes, plus 7 votes from previous rounds. In the event of a tie this round that totals 15
In the city has 3 votes, plus 7 from previous rounds. In the event of a tie, that totals 10.
The long run has 6 votes, plus 3 from previous rounds. Total of 9.

AlreadyGone voted for KOH last round, so I expect they will do the same this round, making KOH's total for this round 9.

Including the three of us who want to save KOH, there are a further 5 'previous' voters still to vote. Just depends how their votes go, but anyone wanting to save KOH has to vote 'The long run', in the hope that we can do a straight knock-out. Pity the most recent votes went to TLR because in a tie-break situation the pevious votes count and ItC had more.

IN HOPING TO SAVE THE KING OF HOLLYWOOD I THEREFORE VOTE FOR 'THE LONG RUN'

I hate to say this and it certainly isn't directed at anyone in particular but is it just me that's starting to get a bit miffed with all the heavily tactical voting and little cliques that are emerging within Survivors? It's just a bit of fun and in reality counts for absolutely nothing, but some seem to treat it like you see political parties doing, rounding up everyone that agrees with them to vote for this because heaven forbid a song may have run its course. I have obviously voted tactically in this game, but that was in the early days when we all knew three would go out instantly, it was just a question of in which order, none of this 'To save...' whatever in this round carry on. I retract my earlier vote in this round for King of Hollywood and will leave you all to it, I might return if it turns back into the good old fashioned free for all fun they usually are.

Cheers

@TLR, if you want to vote for King of Hollywood, then that's completely fine. If KoH goes, then it goes. After it's gone, then I'll start voting based on what I feel about the rest of the songs. Do I really want to see The Long Run go this soon? No. And the same goes for In the City. In fact, I would have rather voted for The Sad Cafe because that song doesn't do much for me personally compared to what's left. I feel strongly enough about KoH to strategically vote, and I know that's the part that's turning you away from this game.

But hey, if you don't want to play Survivor this time around, then that's okay too. This is probably a moot point, but I just wanted to be clear that whatever you do is alright. I'm sure you already know that regardless of whatever I have to say. I apologize for making you feel unwelcome in this series of Survivor.

tlr – While I empathize with you and appreciate your opinion, please remember that tactical voting is often part of the Survivor game. This game is based on the reality TV show and much of the premise of that show is strategizing and forming coalitions to win. But, once you cast a valid vote in a round, it can’t be changed, so, unfortunately, we can’t retract your vote. We hope you will stick around, but if you are uncomfortable with the game, then, of course, do what you feel is best for you.

I totally agree with the bits in bold, RCF.
We all know that when all's said and done the Survivors are just games, even though we will do all we can to help our favourite song(s) finish in the final two or three. Which is why there has always been tactical voting and calls for coalitions. I've been guilty of the first and, possibly on the odd occasion, guilty of joining the second. Though as most of the time coalitions are calls to vote off my favourite songs that doesn't happen very often.
In fact, I am flabbergasted to find that so many people want to save KOH - my favourite song on this album. Hence the number-crunching as to which of TLR and ITC people should vote for in an effort to save KOH for one more round. It would be nice for it to finish in the top 5 for once, rather than the bottom five as on two previous occasions.

While I'm sorry to see thelastresort go, I'm astonished he never noticed strategic voting before. We've been doing it since literally the first game!

If we wanted to just rank the songs from most popular to least popular, we could do a poll. The strategy and often head-to-head competitions between songs are what make this a game.

No one needs to apologize for why they vote the way they do.

I'm not going to say how others should play the game. However, I personally have been a bit disappointed by the number of tactical posts and the emerging style of tactical voting in this game over the past day. If you get the occasional person saying they're going to vote tactically, that's one thing. If you get a group, and seemingly a fair-sized group compared to the number of voters, all collaborating to promote one song at the expense of other songs then that's different. Speaking personally, I don't mind if my favourite song goes down if it's just people voting. But, if it's coordinated tactical voting, then that would leave a bad taste in my mouth and, for me, ruin the fun a bit. I would feel that the eliminated song had been 'ganged up against', rather than having been eliminated honestly.

Even without tactical voting, the game is very different from just a popularity poll, as the votes change throughout the game as songs are eliminated, and there is suspense as to which song will go next. That, to me, is easily enough to make it an enjoyable game rather than just a popularity poll.

WalshFan88
10-04-2016, 02:17 AM
This game has always (well, for a VERY long time) had coalitions in effort to save one song over another. It's nothing new. For the ones who've been around for awhile, anyway. Maybe some games have more of it than others but I've seen it a lot and if you do some digging you'll see it's nothing new. Maybe the people here haven't seen it or maybe haven't played the last few (and before that) games. I have no problem with "tactical voting" or strong opinions for or against a song. As Soda and Dreamer have stated, it's part of the fun. It's been like this for ages!

OF COURSE it doesn't count for anything. We all already know that, or at least I thought so. It's part of the fun. I learned early on of me playing these games that to play this game you have to roll with the punches and be ok with your favorite getting nixed and while I understand some not being able to handle it or feel it's too heavy handed, I believe that no one should feel bad for starting coalitions or feel the need to apologize. I think it's taking it too far. Basically, Survivor is not a poll and at the end we pick a winner based on the poll. It's not a popularity contest. It's a FIGHT to get to the end, and that's what the real Survivor is. It would be pretty boring for it to just be a poll I believe and I think most will agree.

This is just a game and all in fun. Strategic voting has always been around, so I don't think it hurts to fight for any particular song when you need to.

I love KoH, but I also love TLR. I don't think KoH is better than it, so I can't vote for TLR yet, but I also think KoH is a better song than some of the others. I love the guitars in it, cool and foreboding.

Therefore, this time, I vote for The Sad Cafe.

I just wanted to say that I'm sorry if anyone has been upset by the voting strategies used in this round. I think AT has a fair point about coordination, and if it has come across as 'scheming' then I apologise for that as I was one of the people who agreed to participate. I also hope thelastresort is okay, if he wants to leave the game at this stage then I think that should be completely his decision, just hope he isn't too upset. As others have said, the game is meant to be fun, and although I have been enjoying it so far I do know others get a bit stressed by it (my younger self from a few years ago would probably have got upset at my favourite songs being eliminated so I can relate to this feeling).

I can only speak for myself but strategy is a big part of this game from my personal point of view - once you take out the three songs that were first to leave the island, I think the remaining seven songs are close to being equally as good. I also recognise that my own favourite track on the album is unlikely to win so I'd happy simply to see it go as far as possible. By contrast, with say the Eagles LP survivor there were several songs where I didn't mind much which order they went out in and my favourite was a standout candidate to win the game, so there I found it easier to just vote my least favourite of the remaining tracks off in each round. I guess I find that with TLR, there is less of a difference in quality between each track, so it's a bit more tactical for me.

Anyway, I again vote for In The City. I really don't mind at all if it survives to the next round, as I do think it's an excellent song, but I am digging the other tracks a bit more right now.

I'm starting to feel as though I'd have been more victorious if I had selected "In the City" as the song to take out in the hope of preserving "King of Hollywood." A miscalculation on my part.

Oh, well. Life goes on. I mean, it wasn't as though KoH was ever going to actually win this thing. A fan though I am, I wouldn't be so delusional in my thinking.

In a very close round, the next song to be eliminated in The Long Run Survivor is King of Hollywood. “King of Hollywood”, the tribe has spoken and let’s have a little heart-to-heart. Now look at me and tell me, darlin', what were you willing to sacrifice? And why weren’t you willing to be real nice? For years, we’ve seen ‘em come and go and now it’s your time. I like it, but it's far from Joe's best. I'd rank it third behind Pretty Maids All In A Row and The Last Good Time In Town among Joe's Eagles songs. And there are many of his solo songs that I prefer to all three JW Eagles songs.

It's a very good song, but the others still in the competition are better.

I have always loved The Sad Café and really want to see it get as far as possible. I think it has great lyrics, not only the best set of lyrics on the album, but amongst all the songs Don has ever written or co-written. The music is also beautiful, especially Don F's short acoustic guitar part and the sax solo at the end. It was already the most emotionally powerful song on the album IMO but it has since gained additional poignancy with The Troubadour's nice tribute to Glenn. Above it, all feels like a fitting end to the first epoch of the band's history, and that is one of the many reasons why I consider it such a great song.

I'd love if it The Sad Café could survive, but I think it will probably go down this round, and if so I'd prefer TLR and HT to contest the final rather than ICTYW, although that is just my view.

I'll offer a few words in defence of The Long Run. I think it's an excellent track overall, but it has a great groove - as I think Don said in the Very Best Of liner notes, Glenn's rhythm guitar drives the song, and I also really like Tim's bass playing. I find it very rewarding to listen to it closely. I also think it's a great Don vocal - just the right amount of 'edge' - and I really like the lyrics, especially the 'all the debutants in Houston' line.

I haven't decided on my vote for this round yet, but I very much agree with everything you say about The Long Run, JCL. And absolutely love the way Don sings "all the debutantes in Houston, baby." The three times I've seen him perform it in Massachusetts, he's changed it to "all the debutantes in Boston, baby, couldn't hold a candle to you," which makes me smile. Also, love the way he fools around with Joe on the Farewell I DVD on that line!

I have my 2 favourites here so it's down to which of the other two to vote off this round. Therefore strategically voting I'm going to vote off 'I can't Tell you why' this round.

I'm going with TLR again. I love this song but somebody has to go and ICTYW is a huge favorite for me and I also relate to the theme of SC better that TLR. It's hard to choose between great songs.

All those people who voted for TLR to try & save KOH - where are you?

I suspect some may have gotten guilt tripped over their strategizing.

I vote for The Long Run.

I vote for The Long Run.

I'm not necessarily guilt tripped, but I was willing to let The Long Run go to save King of Hollywood. I really like The Long Run, and I didn't want to sacrifice it. The amount of votes it had at the time of my vote in that round was more than ITC and TSC, so I put the personal feelings aside for that song to try to save KoH, which ultimately failed. I wish In The City was still in the game instead of The Sad Cafe.

Well, that does makes sense, RCF. I agree with you about "In The City"; to me it's fresher and more original than "Sad Cafe", which I really like but is a bit like "After the Thrill Is Gone- Pt. 2." That the band was willing to use ITC from Joe's solo material says a lot about how much they liked it.

I wish In The City was still in the game instead of The Sad Cafe.

You and me both. I personally don't get the love for The Sad Cafe. To me it was never a shining moment of that album and it was never played live TTBOMK.

I'm voting for Heartache Tonight as I think TSC will go this round which is a shame as it is one of the best songs on this album along with TLR.

The next song to be eliminated in The Long Run Survivor is The Sad Café. “The Sad Café”, I don't know why fortune smiles on some and let's the rest go free, but the tribe has spoken and you are free from this holy place. So some of your dreams didn't come true. Now, please walk down the tracks that run down the boulevard and leave the island immediately.

YES!

Now down to the last 3.

I really, really love the title track. I think it's highly underrated. It really sums up the 70s Eagles.

I also really love ICTYW and Heartache Tonight. Heartache Tonight is a fun rocker, ICTYW is a smooth song I wouldn't normally go for but the redeeming part of it for me is the bluesy guitar solo by GF.

That said, something has to go.

I have to vote for:

I Can't Tell You Why

I vote for The Long Run. As with FP never seen why it is meant to be so good. It's the epitome of their tiredness, resentment and lack of ideas that marred the second half of their original run. I get why Don Henley presumably likes it so much, and why in later years it became their 'theme' song, but it does absolutely nothing for me. I'd go as far to say I'd have happily have foregone it when I saw them with HOTE, and I'm glad Don H. saw fit not to revive it for his latest tour. The two other tracks remaining are far superior and far more deserving of winning.

And now I've got my resentment for The Long Run out of the way, I'll come back to what I said a while ago. I am aware tactical voting happens, as I said I myself have done it this Survivor with In the City early on, however this time it did seem particularly full-on, all guns blazing, do or die with regards to what were the first to fall after TDS/TJ/TGDWNF. I wasn't offended by it (I'm never offended by anything FWIW), I didn't feel particularly annoyed by it even, it just seemed a bit full-on and that dented my enjoyment of it somewhat, and combined with having an absolutely awful evening I couldn't bite my tongue. I apologise if what I said offended, upset or mortally wounded anybody, that wasn't my intention, it's just I believe in always telling the truth as I see it, and sometimes that doesn't work out well! Now, if we could all vote The Long Run to save I Can't Tell You Why... ;)

Cheers

Not voting yet, I have to really think about this...

Love the guitar from Glenn in I Can't Tell You Why, the vocals, writing seemed rushed, but that was where they were at at the time

The Long Run is ok, like that they opened with it in Farewell 1, love the sentiment of hangin in and hangin on

Heartache Tonight, well Glenn at his rockin best

What to do, what to do???

The three main singles (I think?) left.

I'll vote for Heartache Tonight again because I prefer the other two songs. They're all great songs, but one has to go.

EDIT: Oh dear, I think LuvTim's Christmas card list is going to be getting shorter.
