I'm late in getting this news, which is dated April 17. I wonder if Eddie Van Halen has commented? As you know, Holdsworth was massively influential on EVH's playing style.

I don't know much about him, but I read shortly after his death that he and Eddie may have had a falling out? I don't know if that's true. Mr. Holdsworth has a cd set coming out and it's possible EVH contributed something in the liner notes.

RIP

I don't know, it seems the relationship was always a bit prickly? Not sure why. I remember a Guitar Player interview with Eddie (early 80s - before some of you were born) and there was already friction there. EVH was in awe of Holdsworth's talent and wanted to be on his album but there was some hesitation on AH's part, at which Eddie took great offense.

Holdsworth explained the trouble here and puts it down to pressure from the producer and record label: http://ultimateclassicrock.com/eddie-van-halen-allan-holdsworth-jam/

Not to harp on this, but I'm surprised that EVH didn't even mention Allan's passing on his Twitter or anything.
