RIP Chris Cornell. :( I was so shocked to hear this morning about this. I loved Chris and I especially loved Audioslave. I listened to them so much as a teenager. I really liked Soundgarden too but Audioslave came out when I was struggling as a teen and their songs, especially "Be Yourself", came out when I needed it. I also loved the song he and Eddie Vedder did with Temple of the Dog too, "Hunger Strike". Sending prayers for his family and friends.

Horrible. ABC News is reporting it may have been suicide.

Singer Chris Cornell's death at the age of 52 is being investigated as a "possible suicide," Detroit Police confirmed to ABC News on Thursday morning.

Officer Jennifer Moreno told ABC News that the singer was found at midnight in his hotel room at the MGM Grand in Detroit after being checked on by a family friend. Moreno confirmed the general investigation as a "possible suicide," but could not comment on any of the specifics of how he was found.

Oh I remember Black Hole Sun. I loved the whole grunge era.

Very young. He seemed so happy.

RIP.

Huge loss. I've always been a big fan of Soundgarden, as well as Audioslave and his earlier project, Temple Of The Dog. Very talented, and I am deeply saddened and stunned. RIP, Good Sir.

It's been confirmed now as a suicide and I'm feel even more sorry for his family, friends, bandmates, and fellow fans. He also just performed in Detroit last night and was supposed to headline a big rock festival here in my city Columbus tomorrow. It's just so sad.

Very sad. It's been reported by his family that prescription drugs may have affected his judgment and mental state. Regardless, he's gone way too soon.

It's tragic that major acts from the 90s have lost their lead singer...Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice In Chains, Blind Melon...

"Black Hole Sun" is one of those defining songs of that era for me.

RIP

For me too. But it's also timeless. Still can't believe someone's written a song that great. Musically the originality of it reminds me of something like Procol Harum's "(A) Salty Dog".

I find it even more tragic if he didn't actually have any suicidal thoughts, but the prescription drug messed up his head. :( http://variety.com/2017/music/news/chris-cornells-family-prescription-drugs-may-have-influenced-suicide-1202436611/

I assume you have seen Finland's own Leningrad Cowboys do this song with an opera singer?

I knew precisely none of Cornell's music but his death is very sad. I read about the timeline earlier. RIP.

But suicide is very hard to deal with. The family are already saying it was 'accidental'.

Thanks for the link, Freypower. I have never heard it as I've never been interested in Leningrad Cowboys, but I will definitely check that one out.

Looks like Joe was at Chris's funeral. Did they actually know each other?

Thanks for the info Chaim. Joe's attended a lot of musician's funerals over the years. I can't believe that he was close friends with all of them but they were all united by a shared vocation.

The Daily Mail has a pic of Joe and Marjorie at Chris Cornell's funeral.
