With the upcoming release of the expanded Hotel California album coming, I go to wondering how it counts. Would it add the 32 million in album sales, or would this be considered a new album, or would only the single disc version count?? I'm not sure how this stuff works.
Excited about picking it up for the Live CD!!!!

Good question BB. I would think it gets added ti the sale of the original release but not sure.

I don't know the answer to the question, but I would also expect the sales of the new set to be added to the total. It would seem to be silly for them not to. However, plenty of silly things happen in the world, so this is very far from a guarantee.

Same as the old way. If someone is buying an album. Its recorded and tallied.

I guess the deluxe set or the 2 disc set was more what I was curious of. I don't know how they tabulate re-releases that are different than the original, or if they do. I was looking at album sales, and it's possible for that album to move quite a bit up the list, if it is counted with the original.

The 2-disc set would be counted as a new album because they're some sort of RIAA album rule about having too many bonus tracks (it's on Wikipedia somewhere)

Ah...thanks OOC. So, the album sales for this release, will stand alone, apart from the original.

Unfortunately yes. It's something like 75% of the new release has to be the original. Like if they're were 20 songs, 15 had be to be the original songs; something like that

I was just reading something yesterday regarding the sales of the album. I think it was in Billboard but not sure. Anyway, the article said the sales will be added to the sales of the original album and not be counted separately. I thought that was interesting.

If so, then the RIAA changed their rules. Very interesting, New Kid In Town, thanks for the info.

I wonder if this is because one disc is the actual album with no additions?
It's like not counting the extra stuff at all...just counting the studio album.
