As the majority of the posters on here are long time fans, I'm hoping y'all can help me and any other new fan.

I've been slowly going through the Eagles' albums and finding songs I like that aren't necessary the "hits" (or songs always played live.) My problem is that I don't have easy access to the band members' solo albums. I was wondering if y'all could give me some song recommendations/your favorite songs as a good starting off point.

I'll also happily take any Eagles recommendations as well.

I don't know if you like ballads, but Glenn's "I did it for your love" is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard.

This is a cover that Genn played live in the early 80s. It's guaranteed to cheer me up. https://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2016/10/glenn-frey-cool-jerk23.html

I'm not saying it's my favourite Glenn Frey, "ever ever" but it's something that you won't come across often.

If you have Spotify, all of Glenn's solo albums are available there, so you can pick and choose.

"A Walk in the Dark" from "Strange Weather" is wonderful. I also like "I Volunteer" and "That Girl" from the "No Fun Aloud" album.

From the Eagles:

Desperado: Saturday Night, Outlaw Man, Doolin Dalton (& the reprise)

On the Border: Ol' 55, Good Day in Hell, My Man

One of These Nights: Hollywood Waltz

Hotel California: Try and Love Again

The Long Run: The Sad Cafe

Hell Freezes Over: The Girl From Yesterday, Learn to Be Still

Long Road Out of Eden: Waiting in the Weeds, No More Cloudy Days, You Are Not Alone, What Do I Do With My Heart

From their solo careers:

So What: Help Me Through the Night

Building the Perfect Beast: A Month of Sundays

The Allnighter: Lover's Moon (if you can find the eagles' version from this from a HFO bootleg, this is better)

Soul Searchin': I Did It For Your Love

Strange Weather: River of Dreams

Glenn's live album from 1993: Wild Mountain Thyme

Inside Job: Goodbye to a River

Building the Perfect Beast: A Month of Sundays

I wholeheartedly recommend this. One of Don's absolute best, and I believe the only song he has ever written alone. You can tell he has genuine care and concern for the song's subject.

From the Eagles' discography I recommend Bitter Creek, Saturday Night, Ol' 55, After the Thrill Is Gone, my beloved namesake, and The Sad Cafe. Bits and pieces from LROOE are also worth your time: I Don't Want to Hear Any More, What Do I Do with My Heart and Somebody.

I have no idea if it is to your musical tastes, but I would also say Joe's Barnstorm album if you want to see a side to him that sadly faded as years went by. It is probably my favourite album ever.

Here are some of my favorite cuts that I think are worth checking out as they more or less offer something a bit different either musically and/or lyrically (as far as I know none were released as singles):

Eagles: Take The Devil
Desperado: Bitter Creek/ Desperado-Doolin Dalton Reprise
On the Border: Ol’ 55
One of These Nights: Journey of the Sorcerer
Hotel California: Pretty Maids All in a Row/ Try and Love Again
The Long Run: The Sad Cafe
Long Road Out of Eden: Waiting in the Weeds, You Are Not Alone

For some solo stuff outside the box...

Bernie - What Do I Own (great lyrics)

Randy - Gotta Get Away (fans have wondered what he’s referring to in the song i.e. what does he want to get away from)

I forgot Pretty Maids All in A Row (Hotel California) and After the Thrill is Gone (One of These Nights).

I like Saturday Night form Desperado both lyrically and musically, especially mandolin solo. My Man is also a gem, very emotional song.

Would also like to recommend Nightingale Chug All Night (Eagles), Ol' 55, Is It True? (On the Border) and Try and Love Again (Hotel California).

Thank you everyone for the recommendations so far! I've made a list of all the songs I didn't know. Some, like Hollywood Waltz, King of Hollywood, and No More Cloudy Days, are already some of my favorite Eagles songs.

I don't have Spotify but I'll look up Glenn's work on YouTube.

Magnolia, I'm glad you like our suggestions! Hollywood Waltz and No More Cloudy Days are two of my favorites too. Have you seen the live in Melbourne DVD? If you haven't, you should check it out - they perform No More Cloudy Days. (And it's an awesome concert).

Yes, I have seen it. I own it actually and I watch it about once every couple of weeks. It's one of my favorite dvds. That's where I first heard No More Cloudy Days. If I had to choose just one favorite Eagles song, that would be my choice.

I've made some progress on the list of suggestions and I like a lot of them. I now have another list for songs to buy on iTunes!
