Texas artist Boyd Elder created the iconic Southwestern images used on several Eagles album covers. http://marfapublicradio.org/blog/valentines-boyd-elder-has-died-at-age-74/

So sorry to hear this. My heart goes out to his family and friends. He had quite a long history with the band.

Here he is as one of the lawmen on the back cover of the Desperado album (that's him in the middle standing behind Bernie) ...

And the band's album covers that he designed the art pieces and lettering ...

In keeping with the skull theme, I wonder if he also designed the art for Eagles: Their Greatest Hits I? I don't think there are any liner notes for this one.

ETA: Well a simple web search revealed that Boyd did design the skull art and lettering for this album, so I'll add it to this post:

BTW - As I was posting in this thread, I remembered that I had this photo. This is one of the pictures of Glenn's home in Aspen that were posted on the web when the house went up for sale. You can see that Glenn must have acquired the skull artwork from One of These Nights ...

May he rest in peace. I love the artwork on One of These Nights, and how cool that he got to play a part in that iconic Desperado cover. What with Gary Burden's passing a few months ago we are sadly losing more and more of those who crafted the band's image and identity.

That is just incredible. I wonder what the wings are made out of?

I think I've seen a photo of Glenn's studio where the horse skull from the Greatest Hits 2 was hanging up. (And I wonder where these items are today...)

That is gorgeous (how Glenn’s Aspen home was decorated).

R.I.P. El Chingadero -that was Boyd’s nickname!

Thanks NMB - I should have done a web search before I posted because it was pretty easy to find this out. I went ahead and edited my previous post to include it.

RIP to Boyd. Loved all of that artwork!

It would be nice if the original artwork could be donated to the RRHoF. :hmm:

The skull artwork is awesome and very original!
I've noticed the cross on the table, were Glenn or his wife believers ?

Since the late Gary Burden was mentioned in this thread, I thought I'd post a picture of he and Boyd that I came across the other day when searching about the artwork credits on the greatest hits album. It looks like the two were very friendly. It seems like every Eagles-related event that Boyd was involved with also included Gary - Boyd's Venice 'El Chingadero' show where the Eagles made their official public debut, the Desperado photo shoot, and, of course, all of the previously-mentioned album covers. RIP to both of them.
