Hell Freezes Over CD Elimination Game

[Ive always been a dreamer]

Okay folks – I’m going to go ahead and start the 25th anniversary Hell Freezes Over CD Elimination game and we’ll see how it goes in terms of participation. If there is no interest after a few days, we can always suspend it. To recap the way this works:

Every song on the Hell Freezes Over CD will begin the game with 15 points. Each time you post, you will select one song that you want to save and add one point to it; then, you will select one other song that you want to eliminate and subtract two points from it. When a song reaches zero (0) it is eliminated from the game. Any member in good standing can play at anytime except you must allow at least three other players to vote before you can play again. Before you vote, you must first check the previous player’s post to make sure they tallied the score correctly in their post. If it is necessary to make a correction, clearly state why you are doing so in your post. Then, list the song that you are giving a point to and the song that you are subtracting two points from. You must then copy all of the songs in play from the previous post to your post and revise the tally to reflect your vote. Once a song reaches 0, you can eliminate it from the list. The game ends once there is only one song remaining. I'm not a fan of NYM but I'm trying to save Get Over It. I have one more song I want to get rid. I'm trying to figure why no love for Get Over It. That's a rocking song and the first song Don and Glenn wrote together when the Eagles got back together. My favorite out of the four new songs from HFO album. This version of NYM has really grown on me. It was written by an Eagle and included on HFO for a reason. It’s performed really well and is still relevant today. I get the sentimental value fans attach to GOI, but other than the intro I really don’t care for it. It’s generic, fairly forgettable and hasn’t aged well. I rarely see it in anyone’s top 10 list in Eagles song discussions. Out of the 4 original songs I prefer Learn to Be Still.

I appreciate your explanation about NYM, Deliah, however, I just see it differently. It was obviously included on the CD for a reason, but I can't figure out what the reason was - just like I can't figure out why other songs were excluded. And it's funny how differently we feel about it because I am not at all enamored with this particular version. Even though I really do like the song a lot, there's just no way it deserves to finish in the Top 10 in this game, IMHO. So, I'll keep persisting and, hopefully, those who agree with me will join me.

I'm with Dreamer and Soda here. NYM is nothing special honestly IMO, especially on this version with the Eagles. One of the things that's always bothered me about HFO is how much Henley solo material is on it. It seemed like the Henley show for a fair portion with a few Eagles songs. If Henley was going to do a solo song, I'd rather hear TBOS, honestly. It fits the Eagles better too, IMO. Get Over It, however, is a great Eagles song start to finish and a true rocker. It's my favorite of the band's new music at the time and I cannot fathom it beating out GOI, honestly. I would definitely like to see it stick around a bit longer.

I'm so used to Survivor games where you post only once per round and post about every other day. I've also been really busy with appointments today and yesterday. I know a lot of people hate this version(heck I also notice the hatred of Hotel California in general), but I love the acoustic version of HC. I hate this was the only time they ever did this version. Radio played the heck out of this song when it first came out in 1994.

I kinda surprised HC lasted this long. I can see some just don't like any of Don's songs. Since most of the old singles are live versions and not the original, I'm voting on--. Wait what am I voting on anyway. LOL

Well - TBH, shun, I can understand it. I really don't care for this acoustic, percussion-heavy version either. I just can't wrap my head around the song being eliminated so quickly, but, I can see why they didn't do it anymore. It is far inferior to the electrical version, so as I said, I don't guess I should be too surprised. Maybe the real surprise is that it has lasted as long as it has in the game.

Ok, so some thoughts before I vote in my next post. I'm glad that TIE and HC are the final two.

This one is pretty easy for me honestly. This CD has my least favorite performance of Hotel California ever and my most favorite TIE performance ever. So it should come as no surprise to how I'm voting. To me Hotel California shines as an electric guitar harder rockin' song and I've never been a flamenco/classical guitar fan or a fan of this version. This version of TIE, complete with Glenn's "here is how it all started" comment at the beginning, is my very favorite. Glenn sounds in fine form. Joe Walsh's outro solo (the one he does after he plays Bernie's original solo) during the "ooh" part blows away any other guitar solo ever done on this song! It adds a rock vibe to it and yet still pays tribute to the original as he played Bernie's solo first. But I'll take Joe's rocked up lead on the end any day and I love, love, love this version of TIE.

I love TGFY and TLR so was very sorry to see they were the fisrt to be eliminated, but I guess Majority Rules. Great game and I would definitely like to play again with a different album.

It was interesting to watch as so quick. I suspect it works best with a long album, such as LRooE.
