Today, I went to a get together/fundraiser sponsored by a local Facebook group that I belong to. Most of us are old friends.
A local trio played at the intimate event and was great fun. A friend of mine is the keyboard player. They played mostly early 70's soft rock, including our Eagles, America, Peter Frampton, Three Dog Night.etc. Their vocals & harmonies were beautiful and I kept wondering why I hadn't gone & seen them sooner.
Afterwards, I went & talked to my friend and thanked him for playing and told him I especially loved that they played Eagles songs. Come to find out, the bassist/percussionist is Glenn's cousin!!!!!
I've rubbed elbows with a lot of famous people, from TV & movie & rock stars to politicians. But I have NEVER, EVER been more starstruck than I was to be there today with Glenn's cousin. He & his wife, who it turns out I did theater with a few years ago, live a couple of towns over. He's a really sweet guy and endured my stuttering & stammering and fan-girl giddyness when I was talking to him and got this photo-op with him. I can't even tell you what I said to him, except we did talk about how long we've lived here and small talk like that.

Yes. They are cousins on his mom's side. His last name is McGuire. He has a beautiful voice--the whole band harmonizes so well. I kept waiting to hear "Seven Bridges Road". They did do TITL & Best of My Love. :inlove:

That's great, MarthaJo! :jealous: I would have a hard time resisting the urge to pump him with questions! I wonder how he may be related to GlennsCuz who posted here a few times. She said that Glenn stopped at her family's home in Fresno on his initial trip to LA. It's really a small world...I just found out a lady I have worked with for years and I share a 3x great grandmother!

What was the name of Mr. McGuire's band? Did he sing lead?

I was kinda stumbling over myself and think I was gushing. I think I said several times that I was so excited to meet him and and that I was in the presence of royalty. I also think I may have embarrassed him. But I hope not.

The band is called Raincross Drive. The Raincross is the symbol of our town. My friend Ralph is the keyboard player and they all 3 sing lead on certain songs & great harmonies. Ralph is in 2 other bands, so I could never keep up with which band he plays with at any given time. But I had to go to this event yesterday because their reputation preceded them. Everyone I know talks about how great they are---and they are!!! The band has a Facebook page, but Kelly does not.

Thanks, MarthaJo! I also enjoyed them on YouTube, including a 24 min interview/musical set. Right up my country rock/singer-songwriter alley! I amused myself noting some of Kelly's facial expressions and gestures reminiscent of Glenn. You have to give the guy credit for not mentioning his relationship.

He's very talented himself. He hasn't needed to ride on Glenn's coat tails. And he's doing what he loves.
It does my heart good because I see so many "relatives" do that.
For example, a friend of mine occasionally drums for Riki Hendrix, Jimi's cousin. Or so he says, I don't know if he is for sure, But he tries to profit on the last name. It just pisses me off. Our region (Southern California's Inland Empire) is very proud of the musicians that got their start here, but it's the guys like that just irritate the crap out of me. Especially if they aren't that good.
Then there is my late friend, Steve McLemore. He was an excellent bass player, played locally. His brother is Lamont McLemore of the 5th Dimension. Steve was offered to tour with them, but didn't read music well, so he wasn't hired. Still, Steve was proud of his brother and lived a good life. He was "famous" locally and that was good enough for him.

Hi Martha ! This is so cool ! Lucky you. I assume he is his younger cousin - how old do you think he is. I'm just trying to figure out how much younger than Glenn he is. Obviously the musical gene comes from Glenn's Mom's side of the family. If I remember right, Glenn stated one of his Uncle's(I assume from his Mom) played in a jazz band when he was a kid.

I'm 63--almost 64,. Kelly is probably around my age---maybe a bit younger by a few years. Younger than Glenn for sure.
He is a a locally famous musician, but very low key-very humble, very quiet.

I got to see Raincross Drive again last week at a free outdoor concert.
The week before that, I was having drinks with my friend Ralph, the keyboard player and his cousin, my bestie , Debby.. He opened up a bit about Kelly and his relationship with Glenn. Ralph said that Glenn was so kind to Kelly and complimented him on his talent quite often. They pretty much grew up together in Detroit.
I caught this medley on video. Sorry the video isn't that great, but the sound isn't too bad. Kelly does the sound set up for them, so of course, it's good.

If you can't open it let me know. I put it on YouTube as private, but will temporarily change it so y'all can see/hear it.
I might go see them play again next Friday.

BTW - I was thinking that this thread should be moved to Glenn's forum. Is it okay with you if I move it?

Listening to Kelly sing TITTL is really interesting. I'll bet he and Glenn would have sounded wonderful harmonizing together. He sounds much more like Glenn than Deacon does. Deacon has a really good singing voice, but he doesn't sound like his dad at all, to my ears anyway. Kelly also looks more like Glenn than any of the kids do, which is weird, but does happen. I mean, I see a family resemblance with the kids now and then, but Kelly has the same facial angles. He looks enough like Glenn to be a brother.
From the good folks at Ancestry, Kelly's mom was Virginia, who was 2 years or so younger than Nellie, Glenn's mom. She married in 1950, so it's a safe bet that Kelly was born after then. She died in 1992.
Thanks for posting this. I enjoyed watching it.
PS: Raincross Drive does have a Facebook page.

Both Glenn & Kelly have that Midwest/Michigan accent. Deacon does not, so that's why he doesn't sound like them. My late ex-husband, a musician, was from the Midwest and he sounded a lot like Glenn. Especially when he sang TIE & PEF. I came back to California with it after living in Minnesota for 10 years. I've lost it now, though, and have my California girl voice back.
Yes, Raincross Drive has a FB page, but Kelly does not.

I was really talking more about the actual singing voice, where the accent isn't much of an issue. Deacon's singing voice is in a naturally lower register and the timbre is different. Kelly's voice is much more like Glenn's in register and timbre. Deacon is a very good singer, but his voice just doesn't sound at all like Glenn, except maybe in his attack on certain phrases. Deacon has more of a Southern rock voice than Glenn did. I'd never mistake one for the other. With Kelly, hearing him sing TTITL is enough like Glenn to make me wonder if it was an alternate recording.

Here is a song by Kelly called An Eagle Once Flew!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NStwSoluXG8&list=RDMM&index=1
This song is from his 2020 EP called Rosewood and Coffee. Also, he has a collection from 2007 called Westgate. These available on Apple Music, etc. You can sample parts of the songs. I don't have an account, and frankly, don't know how to stream, download, or whatever. Skimming briefly, I really liked the romantic November Leaves. I've got to learn this new tech stuff!
I had found this some time ago and was going to post, but couldn't find it again. All I can say is Kelly must not be interested in the fame aspect at this point. I don't know why he wouldn't have a website, facebook page, or even mention these on Raincross Drive's facebook. You can't even find these by googling Kelly. He is using Kelly E McGuire, since there's some other singer with the same name that comes up more often in searches.

They are having a concert again this coming Saturday, so I will see if he plays any of his own stuff. :guitar:
And like I've said, Kelly is very private. He's opened up very little, even to his bandmates.

Kelly also has Glenn's sense of humor. The banter he has between songs is a lot like Glenn. He's so funny! And so sweet. The last time we saw them in concert, Kelly knew it was our last time since we were moving, and was paying particular attention to Kevin & I, even though he is very shy.
