Sad news: Rusty Young died Wednesday at age 75. He was an original member of Poco and former bandmate of Randy Meisner and Timothy B. Schmit. He wrote one of my favorite Poco songs, “Crazy Love.” Condolences to his family and friends. RIP.

“I just received word that my friend Rusty Young has passed away and crossed that line into eternity,” co-founder Richie Furay said in a statement to Variety. “My heart is saddened; he was a dear and longtime friend who help me pioneer and create a new Southern California musical sound called ‘country rock.’ He was an innovator on the steel guitar and carried the name Poco on for more than 50 years. Our friendship was real and he will be deeply missed. My prayers are with his wife, Mary, and his children Sara and Will.”

How very sad and unexpected. Rusty was a fantastic pedal steel guitarist, a great songwriter, and an overall very nice and humble guy. I will miss his music.

The following blog is inspired by a line from the song: 'Some called it country/Some called it rock and roll'.

Love to all Poconuts.

Have not been on the Border for a bit and have missed it. My Dad died in the midst of Covid 19 and a month later, I was diagnosed with cancer. Hoping things improve in 2021.

2020 was such a awful year. I'm so sorry your Dad was among those we lost. Having to deal with serious health issues in the midst of your loss has to be a terrible weight to bear. I'm so sorry for what you have been through. Praying for speedy healing and recovery , and bright years ahead with your dark days behind you!

Thanks, Delilah. Me too.

Eagles was one of few bands that my Dad and I shared an interest in, though he was much fonder of Pink Floyd and Camel. Played Shine On at his funeral.

Timothy Schmit and Bernie Leadon will be participating in a tribute to Rusty on Sunday, May 2nd. It’s a radio show and you can listen online. I shared the link in Timothy’s forum, on the press/blog thread.
