View Full Version : How Many Eagles-related events have you gone to?

Inspired by TimothyBFan's question in another thread, I decided to make a whole topic devoted to how many shows we've been to. Here's mine:

EAGLES

When I became a fan of the Eagles in 2005, they were only doing California shows. At first, I thought I'd never get to see them live. However, as my mania increased, I decided to take the plunge and go to see them in Sacramento. After all, at the time, Glenn was hinting that they wouldn't do any more shows after that, and I figured - I have to see them at least ONCE. In Sacramento, I got together with PLS, Dreamer, and Karen Z - we had a wonderful time!

I figured that would be it, but then I heard they were playing the UK. At first, I figured, it was beyond me. Then I realized - hey, I've always intended to go to the UK to do some research for my dissertation. Now's my chance to kill two birds with one stone." So I did - I went to the two London shows.

That was going to be it for me, but again, fate intervened. I found myself in Glasgow, coincidentally, on the VERY DAY the Eagles were playing! On impulse, I hurried to the venue and got a ticket in the rafters.

Finally, when visiting GEF in Devon, I decided to accompany her to the show in Wales. Four Eagles shows in a couple of weeks - wow! That brought my total up to 5.

Sadly, after that, I wasn't able to get to any more Eagles shows until this one at the Hard Rock casino.

So, I've only been to six Eagles shows, despite how hard-core I am. Hopefully I will bring that total up to 7, if I can find a good seat for the Chicago show which I too hope to attend!

However, I did get talked into going to the CMAs to see them perform by DonFan and Dreamer - and what a night that was!

JOE WALSH
I've been one James Gang show, back in 2006. I wanted badly to see Joe on his solo tour last year, but the only time he came near me, I was in Canada. I can only hope he tours again.

DON HENLEY

I first saw Don Henley when he performed with Stevie Nicks at AHI 2001. I don't think I should count that as an Eagles-related event, though, since I went for Stevie and viewed Don's two songs as little more than a pleasant diversion before she came out (I was blind! ;) )

But then, in 2005, I saw Stevie and Don on their "two voices" tour. I went for Stevie, not Don, but he made such an impression on me that it got me into the Eagles and look at me now!

Don later appeared at another Stevie show I attended that year. While he was just a guest and I went to meet Stevie through a charity, I was very excited about him being there as well - and I got to meet him too as a bonus!!! I really admired how he came down to the meet'n'greet and braved all those Stevie fans to show support for her. What a guy! However, he didn't do any of his own songs and I didn't go for him, so I'm not sure I should count it.

After that, I was eager to see a Don solo show, but didn't have the opportunity until he happened to be in Dallas while I was in Houston visiting my parents. This was too good an opportunity to pass up. I met up with DonFan and off we went!

GLENN FREY

Well, here's where the numbers start piling on. Glenn has always held extra appeal for me - the first Eagles-related site I started was Glenn Frey Online (http://www.glennfreyonline.com), and remained the only one for a couple years until I decided to "branch out" so to speak since the other guys had so few, if any, fansites. Naturally, as a result, I tend to go to his events more often...

My first Glenn-event was Pebble Beach in 2006. When I went, I thought I'd never see him perform, since I believed erroneously that he only did corporate shows. It was a good excuse to shell out to see him golf in California. That led to a chain of events that kept me coming back to Pebble Beach for three years straight, now!

When I heard Glenn was doing a brief tour in 2006, I was ecstatic. I wanted to go to as many shows as possible. I wound up going to 3 (one in Detroit, two in Canada). When I heard he was doing two shows in Niagara Falls in 2007, off I went to them as well!

Finally, there was Glenn and Deacon's show at the Roxy a few months ago. Fun times!

To summarize:
Eagles = 7
Joe = 1
Don = 2
Glenn = 9

All told, 19. Wow, it really adds up!

Boy do I seem inadequate---I have been a fan for over 30 years and never seen them but your a fan for 3 years and see one or all a total of 20 times! WOW!!! How cool!! How do you do it (and forgive me if this has all been stated somewhere before), do you drive to all the closer ones? I know you are in lonely old Indiana right now so not much chance close to see them unless you go out of state. Do you go alone and meet up with others from here on the board? Since you aren't to awfully far from Chicago do you plan on hitting that?

What a great opportunity it must have been to meet Stevie! Is there somewhere where you wrote about that experience because I would really like to hear about that? I am gathering from what you said that that was how you became such an Eagles fan by seeing Don with Stevie, which led to the Eagles which led to Glenn fanatic?

Glad I inspired you to start a new thread because really anxious to hear everyones stories about their experiences while at Eagles events and how they became fans and how long they have been!

You're not inadequate... just more normal. lol

I drive to all the shows except the ones in California and the Phoenix AHI, distances up to 13 hours so far. I'm single and have no responsibilities to anyone but myself and my own happiness, so I'm free to go to as many as I can afford and have time for! I am planning on going to a Chicago show, if I can get a good seat.

Here is a thread about my AHI 2005 experience:

Wow Soda! You are so lucky! If only I were unencumbered! LOL. Ok, I truly wouldn't want that, but would love to see the guys as many times as you've been able to. At the risk of repeating what I've said in the past, I have been a fan for many many years, too many to count, but only have a couple of shows under my belt. I went to the 2 Millenium shows in Las Vegas, the one at the opening of the American Airlines Center in Dallas and one in Oklahoma City, for a sad total of only 4 concerts :cry: .

The 2 in Vegas were awesome. I was the closest I've ever been, I was on the right of Timothy both nights and got some great pics, but lost them when my house burned down as I've mentioned in the past. It was a great night despite being by myself, all the guys were very up and Jackson Browne opened for them both nights. If you get a chance to go see JB, do it, he puts on a great show. The second night, David Crosby was invited up on stage.

The AAC show in Dallas was also awesome, but I was seated in nose bleed seats....but that wasn't all bad...I was directly behind Timothy and had a great view! :smitten: LOL They also had big screens right in front of where I was sitting so I could see the concert from the front very well.

The OKC show was a lot of fun, that time I went with my kids. Despite being in nose bleed seats there also, we took 2 posters with us that we made. One was for Joe Walsh that my son did since he's a fan of Joe's. The other was 2 sided, on one side was all the Eagles with flames around them in honor of hell freezing over, saying "is it hot in here"? The back side had the pic of Timothy shrugging with "or is it just Timothy" on it. We had a great time and the funniest part was when Scott Crago was introduced, my daughter screamed so loud she was heard all the way up on the stage!

I had planned on going to the Hard Rock Park with my kids but things didn't work out. I'm hoping they come closer to me on this tour so I can see them again. Everyone's accounts of the concerts they've seen just serves to whet my appetite!

Thank you for starting this topic, it will be so much fun to hear other's experiences of past concerts.

Well I'm very tame! I went to one of the Eagles Farewell 1 Concerts in Dublin 2 years ago this week! (More on Wednesday..... :wink: ). After that unforgettable experience I vowed I'd see them again and when they did London earlier this year I just had to go, as Dublin didn't feature on their itinerary. Myself, my daughter MF and GEF all met up for a mind blowing night on 20th March last. Unforgettable. Obviously having a family puts both time constraints and financial constraints on me but I sincerely hope to see them again soon.

However my dearest wish would be to go to one of Glenn :heart: 's solo shows or to Pebble Beach some year.

I live (and love :wink: ) in hope!

Great topic.

I've seen Joe twice as a solo artist with the Party Boys and the Creatures From America. I can never remember the years, but I suspect 1984 and 1986.

I saw Glenn on August 5, 1988 when he made a guest appearance with the Little River Band. I was in the front row. When I get closer to the anniversary I will do some more reminiscing about it.

I first saw the Eagles on December 9, 1995 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The (HFO) tour had been postponed a year because of Glenn's diverticulitis surgery. Melissa Ethridge was the support act.

On the Farewell One tour I saw them 5 times - in Melbourne on November 14, 2004, and in Sydney on November 19, 20 (Joe's birthday) and 21, and December 4.

All I want though is to see Glenn perform a solo show, but the likelihood of that happening in Australia is not good.

What a wonderful thread indeed - thanks, Soda! :D

How interesting and exciting all your experiences have been. I'm sad to say that I've only been to one Eagles concert, which I thought would never happen - but I had to MAKE it happen! Being in South Africa, and the likelihood of the Eagles touring here miniscule, I decided that if they were to tour the British Isles (the most economical from a travel expense and time perspective) again, that I would make a plan to attend. Having GA and GEF as my friends also motivated me - I doubt I would have planned it had it not been for their friendship. Going to a foreign country for the first time is pretty scary, so knowing that I would meet up with them kept me going. I saved obsessively for nearly a year, and then the opportunity arose much sooner than I had anticipated.

After all the stress and worry about whether I would get a passport in time, and subsequently get flights and accommodation booked, I achieved my dream on 20 March 2008, with GA, GEF and Timtot (GA's daughter). I was in heaven, and all I can say is that I hope it will happen for me again. My greatest wish is to see the boys in South Africa, and I'd also love to see Glenn :heart: perform solo. I don't know if that dream will ever come true, though. :(

I've seen the Eagles 12 times during the years 1973-2003. My favorite time was the first when I was just blown away by the harmonies and set list. The last time was in 2003 during Farewell 1 and that was of the all the shows I had gone to, not so much because of the performance but because of the idiots surrounding us who did nothing but scream, talk and sing at the top of their lungs. They were so loud that we could hardly hear the band.

I saw Glenn three time, once in 1982 after NO FUN ALOUD, once opening for Tina Turner and once in 1992 which was just a spectacular show.

I've seen Don probably about 8 times, all but once during the tour for THE END OF THE INNOCENCE which went on for several years. The last time was in 2000 when INSIDE JOB came out. He was always great.

I've never seen any of the others except for Bernie Leadon who toured with Michael Georgiades to promote their duo album in the late 70s. They opened up for Linda Ronstadt. They were really good, but did none of Bernie's Eagles songs.

Oh my gosh, Scottside! :shock: I'm so jealous! :jealous: :wink: To have seen the boys that many times, and especially (for me, anyway) to have seen Glenn :heart: when he was promoting NFA! WOW! How you must have enjoyed those experiences! It's a pity the crowds spoilt your enjoyment of the most recent Eagles concert you attended. Do you have any plans to see them on their LROOE tour?

Wow, I'm so jealous of all of you that have gotten to go to so many Eagles related events! That is wonderful!

My hubby and I went to see them back in the mid 70's in St. Louis. Probably about 76 or 77. We were in nosebleed and that's about all I can remember other than that they did lots of loitering on stage! No big show. Just them singing and playing their songs.

Then there's a big gap until the next time (too poor, kids, life) which was in 2002 in Ames, IA.

Then in St. Louis-2003.

Then I became an obsessed Don fan and went to see him solo in 2004.

I'm waaaaay over due for another!

Ive always been a dreamer

This is a great thread. It is always fun to live through other’s experiences when you aren’t able to be there in person. This kinda reminds me of another thread that I really enjoyed called How Did You Become a Fan of the Eagles/a specific Eagle? that was started a while back. Here is a link to the thread for anyone who is interested.

https://eaglesonlinecentral.com/forum/showthread.php?t=311

I mentioned this thread not too long ago in the New Kid in Town thread. It would be great if some of our newer members share their experiences with us. Anyway, back to this topic, here's mine:

EAGLES

As I’ve mentioned often times before, I was a diehard Eagles fan from the very beginning in 1972. Unfortunately, I was a very poor diehard Eagles fan, and could never have afforded those concert tickets that cost around $15.00 back in the ‘70’s. Of course, then there was the 14 year vacation. I’ll never get over not making it to one of the HFO shows, but I was very busy traveling for my job at the time, and just could never synch up my schedule to get to a show.

Finally, my first show was in 2003 when the guys opened their Farewell 1 concert in my hometown of Richmond, Va. I had sucky seats, but I didn’t care. I was thrilled to finally get to see this band live after over 30 years of being a fan.

Then, in March 2005, I attended another show in Hampton, Va. My seat was a bit better this time around – floor level about 2/3’s of the way back. In the summer of 2005, the band announced the California tour dates. As Soda mentioned, at the time these dates were announced, there was a real question about whether or not this would be their last tour. I decided that I’d better go ahead and take in one more show before they called it quits for good. It worked out because I was planning a trip to California in October anyway. So I got a 3rd row center seat for the Oakland show. This is when Glenn chose me once and for all. I simply got captivated by the man that night. So much so that when I returned home, I had severe PEW/PGW and decided that I’d better go back to California for one more show. Karen Z had been to the Bakersfield show in CA a couple of weeks before, and felt pretty much the same way. So, we decided, what the crap – let’s do it. We began our search for the best tickets we could find, and found tickets to the Sacramento show in November. This is where I first met Soda and PLS, as well. We all had a great, fun, totally shallow weekend!

In the spring of 2006, I considered going to London to see a show. GEF was even kind enough to offer me a free ticket, but the cheapest airfare I could find was around $1,300.00. As much as I wanted to go, I opted out of making that trip.

Even though it wasn’t a concert, I went to the CMAs in November with Soda and DonFan to see them perform, taking advantage of the fact that I have an aunt in Nashville who I needed to visit. :wink:

Unfortunately, after Sacramento in November, 2005, I didn’t see another Eagles show until a few weeks ago (May 2008) in Charlottesville. Karen Z and I had vowed to be present when Molly took in her first Eagles show, and it worked out perfectly since the 5-star ILAA tickets for that show were a bargain price of $495.00. :roll: Again, it was a great time spent with wonderful friends and the first ILAA experience for all of us. Then, of course, I took my niece to the Hardrock show in Myrtle Beach last weekend. In addition, to my niece and nephew, I got to attend the show and spend time with some great people – Soda, DonFan, and her daughter.

So, that also makes seven Eagles shows for me. My niece and nephew are still psyched after Myrtle Beach, so we have launched a search for tickets to the Verizon Center show in D.C. at the end of July Hopefully, we will be able to attend that one. After that, I am swearing off any more shows until the fall. I’d like to maybe take in just one fall show.

JOE

I was lucky enough to go to Joe’s solo show at the Borgata in Atlantic City last August. I was very bombed that I was unable to get to a James Gang show in 2006, so I was especially glad that I was able to see this. Joe was terrific, and the show was worth every penny.

DON

I have never seen Don perform solo so this one is still on my wish list. I was considering going to see him in Aspen in 2006, but the airfare was outrageous, so I didn’t do it. Then, I thought I was going to be able to go to Atlantic City in 2007, but I couldn’t make that either. As I said, seeing Don solo is definitely very high on my ‘To Do’ list.

TIMOTHY

Since Tim makes very few public appearances, I've never seen him perform except for the Eagles shows I've attended. However, anytime he wants to change his mind, I'll be most happy to buy a ticket. :wink:

GLENN

Well, to quote Soda, “here's where the numbers start piling on” indeed. After Glenn chose me in Oakland – I decided that I needed to go to Pebble Beach. I mentioned this to Soda, and told her that I was definitely considering going. However, fate intervened, and I was unable to join Soda and PLS at Pebble Beach in 2006 because of my job. After their awesome experience, I decided that this was never going to happen again. I WOULD go to Pebble Beach the next year no matter what!

However, to tide us over, Glenn announced dates for his Prelude to Obscurity Tour for the summer of 2006. I met up with a group of fans, including Karen Z, Molly, PLS, Soda, and Zermie, to see 2 shows at Casino Rama in Orilla, Canada. Karen Z, Molly, and I also went to a show at the Borgata in Atlantic City.

During the fall, I was making plans, and getting increasingly excited about Pebble Beach the following February. However, Glenn wasn’t cooperating at all. I was getting very nervous – November had come and gone and Glenn’s name was not on the celebrity golf list for the tournament. Then, December came and went and he was still not listed. I was very disheartened because he apparently was not going to play. Finally, on January 8, 2007 only about 3 weeks before the tournament, Glenn’s name showed up on the list. I was ecstatic as I hurriedly made my last minute travel plans with Soda and PLS. Of course, many of you already have read about what an awesome experience that was for all of us.

In August, 2007, Glenn did the two shows in Niagara Falls that I would not have missed under almost any circumstances. Once again – a totally awesome experience.

Next up was Pebble Beach, 2008 – this time Molly joined Soda, PLS, and me for another mind-blowing Frey adventure. Glenn was a bit more cooperative this time around in that his name showed up on the celebrity golf list in early November.

This past April, I went to Glenn and Deacon’s show at the Roxy in L.A. I hesitated about going, but I am so glad that I decided to go. What a special trip that was - a totally awesome and unique experience.

To summarize:
Eagles = 7
Joe = 1
Glenn = 8

Okay – I’m still a little behind Soda, but I had no idea I had a total of 16 Eagles-related experiences under my belt. I can only say I ain’t done yet!!!!

The early Eagles shows I attended were very special because I loved the first two albums so much (ON THE BORDER was still months away from being released). Also, during that period of time, probably in late 1973, they played several songs that never appeared on Eagles albums. For instance, Glenn sang "Bad Man" which he cowrote with JD Souther and eventually showed up on Randy's first solo album (and also on the FM soundtrack as a solo Randy track). I know of no version, live or otherwise, that has Glenn as the lead singer except for that one show I saw in December of 1973. Randy also sang a medley of two songs, assumedly written by him called "Oh Darlin'/I Am A Sinner" which never appeared anywhere either. I'm fairly certain "Bad Man" was supposed to be part of ON THE BORDER. I really never understood why it didn't make it.

As for Glenn in 1982, it was really a cool show because it was so very loose. He played in a hall that held about 3500 people. We were a few rows back, but the place was just over half filled. He played only 1 or 2 Eagles songs ("Heartache Tonight" was the only one I can remember), much of NO FUN ALOUD and quite a few covers---"Cool Jerk," the Beatles "I Saw Her Standing There" and a just mesmerizing version of Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" which he should've put on one of his solo albums.

My wife and I had discussed attending one of the shows from this tour, but ultimately decided against it because of financial reasons mainly, but also because we were so disgusted back in 2003 when we saw the Eagles last. It's sad the audience can really wreck a show and all its potential memories. I'm hoping that there is a dvd of one of these concerts eventually. Having Farewell 1 at my fingertips to watch whenever we want does make it a bit less desirable to have to battle traffic, crowds, and the high expenses involved going to a show. I think if the Eagles ever played a smaller place (I know...lots of luck), I'd try to go, but we've had it with arena type shows.

Mrs Frey

Your experiences sound so exciting, Scottside. How I wish I could see Glenn :heart: singing The Beatles' "I Saw Her Standing There" live. Oh my goodness - it's one of my favourite songs, and the version that he does in medley with "Partytown" (available on GFO) is wonderful.

I see your point regarding arena shows, but watching F1 for me could never be the same as seeing them live, no matter how great the DVD is (and it is). My London experience was undoubtedly the most exciting of my life.

However I'm with MF on the Arena shows (And I was HaHa). While F1 is an excellent DVD - I've had it on all morning here, for me nothing can replace the anticipation, the joy,the atmosphere, the noise, the fun and the sheer exhileration of seeing the boys live!

Thanks for those extra details scottside. To hear unreleased songs and covers... how thrilling! That's the kind of thing that makes my mouth water. I wish the Eagles would throw in a song like that nowadays, but I guess realistically it's all they can do to fit in new music with the hits and solo songs. At least in the solo setlists, the guys throw in some "bonuses."

Brooke

SS, those early concerts you saw are really cool. Especially that you can remember anything about them! I only saw one in the mid '70's and can't remember anything about it other than that they did do Hotel Ca!

And no, the memory loss is not from the heavy smoke drifting to the rafters! :wink: I think it was that I was completely in awe of even being in the same building as The Eagles!

I am particularly bummed that I don't have any souvenirs from it! (Oops, forgot about my 3E pin! :wink: :P )

Well, I have been a fan as long as I can remember and knew the words to Hotel California when I was 8ish, but as I'm only 24 I've not seen them that many times.

Eagles
Twice in 2006 at Twickenham and Wembley, which was absolutely fantastic.

One this year at the 02 Arena. Certainly preferred the Wembley show, although Twickenham holds fond memories for being my first Eagles show.

Joe
I saw Joe at the Strat Pack in 2004, which was fantastic and my first live Eagle experience.

Glenn, Don and Tim
Alas, I have yet to see these guys individually, however the day after the Wembley show in 2006 I spent the day with Junie, and she and I were eating dinner in a steakhouse and Tim looked in our window and pointed and me and smiled. I must have been glued to my seat as I just smiled and waved.

The short answer to this question is, I haven't been to NEARLY enough Eagles-related events!
But here's the real answer:

Don:
Atlanta solo show, June 30, 2004 (where it all started!)
Don & Stevie Two Voices tour, Atlanta, June 16, 2005
Don's lecture and M&G at UNT in Dallas, Sept 29, 2005
Don's triple bill in Dallas, Aug 4, 2007
Don solo in Oklahoma City, Aug 5, 2007

Joe:
James Gang, Atlanta, Aug 24, 2006 (2006 was a very slow Eagles year)

Eagles:
Atlanta, March 11, 2005
Salinas California, August 19, 2005
