My apologies if this has been posted before. It's a podcast where Rusty Young talks about knowing Glenn before he was famous. He's really broken up about Glenn's passing. http://thesoundla.com/2016/01/podcas...ks-glenn-frey/

On the way home from the doctor's office a few hours ago, Bob Seger's Against the Wind came on the radio. I choked back a few tears because I knew that Glenn sang backing vocals on that song. I told my mom that Glenn sang on that song. She responded with "Will you shut up about Glenn? He died. Yes, it sad that he did, but he's just a musician. It's not like when your dad died. It happened, and you need to get over it". She ranted for a good 5 minutes. All I could do was not look at her, keep my tears at bay, and remind myself that she doesn't understand. (That hurt badly)
My mom doesn't understand me nor my deeply passionate love of music. She can't comprehend how much this has affected me. This is par for the course for her, actually. Right now, I'm just trying to keep my distance from her. The border has indeed helped meout alot.. Thanks to everyone here because ya'll can understand.
At church, my youth pastor was talking to the teenagers about some interesting subjects.
So she started to talk certain people you should stay away. So she brought turkeys and eagles. One stays grounded and the other flies high. When she brought up eagles. I just wanted to cry and then my radio coming on after my purse hit the on button.
Found this a few minutes ago. I've never heard of the man, but apparently he did some photos for the band.

I hear what you guys are saying about the thread title. Is "Farewell Glenn Frey" better?
ETA: AG, I'm sorry your mother is so unsympathetic.
I think I know what is triggers me to start crying. Its not the ability to listen or hear Glenn's songs on the radio or watch videos that's getting me, its when I see the words: "Glenn Frey 1948 - 2016", "as we mourn", "as we pay tribute", or "we've lost". I just can't read anything that remind me Glenn is gone. That's when reality sets in and tells me he's gone and you're not dreaming. :weep:.
I think I see why I'm able to listen to any of his songs on the radio or Pandora/IHeart Radio. I mourn that way until I'm reminded that he's gone.
I think that Remembering Glenn Frey is good because that's what most of the posts in this thread are about.
Shun, I guess that my avatar isn't helping. I knew that I wanted to change it temporarily, but I couldn't figure out which photo to use. Some radio station om Facebook made the one I'm using. (I'll probably go back to the Smuggler's Blues one in a month or 2)
Remembering or In Remembrance or even In Memoriam would suit me fro a separate thread. I think Farewell is OK for this thread.
Thanks FP. The photo used shows a guy in his mid 60s who looks happy and full of life. That's how I (we) want to remember him.
I've heard that animals can sense things. My cat Tabby, who isn't a lap cat very much, has decided to go to sleep on my lap. Before she did that she was all over me, wanting to be petted. I think that she knows that I'm hurting.
In a little bit, I'm going to try and watch some of the tributes and videos of Glenn that I've never seen.
After Hours is such a beautiful album. :weep:
Maybe rename the thread "Glenn Frey - Gone but not Forgotten"?
I like that title, Soda.
What about 'Glenn Frey - An Eagle Has Flown' ?
Nice one, Lacken.
Without wanting to sound corny how about?
'Glenn checked out but he'll never leave us'
He had such a good sense of humour, he's enjoy something ironic, imo.
What about Glenn Frey: Here's to Your Life? (Combining the titles of Here's to Life and It's Your Life)
I like the "an Eagles has flown".
Prompted by Bernie, I listened to "Most of Us Are Sad".
Most of us are sad
No one lets it show
I've been shadows of myself
How was I to know?
Tell me, scarlet sun
What will time allow?
We have brought our children here
Who can save them now?
Weeping woman, try to smile
Like the coming dawn
Most of us are sad, it's true
Still, we must go on
Love was here today
Oh, the sun was bright
I will sing you far away
Love is here tonight
Most of us are sad
No one lets it show
I've been shadows of myself
How was I to know?
Bernie's right, it is comforting.
I'm just heartbroken....still cannot believe Glenn is gone:weep::weep:
I was watching HOTE again on Showtime last night and all of a sudden, I got emotional when they played Wasted Time to end Part 1. It hit me that its the end. They use that song in the documentary to end that era when they broke up in 1980. Now we end this era, but forever.
I now can't even listen to Desperado now because knowing that was the last song of the show, we won't be hearing that anymore. Plus learning Glenn playing piano on that song.
Then VH1 Classic played back to back songs by Glenn or the Eagles. I don't know if it continue after the commercial. Since I had to head out the door to head to work, I record the rest just in case they playmore videos.
I got an email alert from spotify that said No Fun Aloud by Glenn Frey is now available. It's the only album of his solo career that wasn't on there previously. I'm happy that it is available now, but there's no way that I can listen to it.
Yes, I'd rather my tax dollars went to care for sweet Randy than some dubious deal with Iran.
Your post just made me realize: the Beach Boys used the moniker "America's band" for years and years. But the Eagles have quietly inherited this mantle it seems, and it fits them well (though their appeal is international of course).
I wonder if it's time for a separate thread for eulogies or "remembering the life of" writings. I know that this thread could become that but I'm not sure I'll ever want to start at the beginning and read through everyone's first reactions - that's too raw. However, I think a place where people could reflect on what Glenn means to them and repost what has been said by the many people who have known and worked with him over the decades would provide comfort and inspiration. Even if there's duplication, so what?
In simple terms, it's the difference between mourning the death and celebrating the life.
UTW, this reminds me of a rich New Orleans' tradition called the "Second Line." After a jazz funeral for one of the greats, the mood of the music played by the accompanying brass band becomes more raucous and upbeat so the followers in the procession can celebrate the life and their love of the deceased.
I think a "Second Line" for Glenn is a great idea. :)
Oh yes, how wonderful - a "Second Line" celebration. I imagine that's what Azoff and the Eagles (and friends) will be aiming for with Glenn's memorial, if it turns out to be a concert.
I agree about a new thread. I had already talked to some of the moderators about doing this, but we were worried it was too soon.
I believe that Glenn mentioned it in the 2nd episode of the Tavis Smiley show he did in 2012 while promoting After Hours. He was talking about trying to type it on the computer, and failing to do so. He ended up using a legal pad like he had done for so many years.
I think that a celebration of life type thread is a good idea, but imo, it should wait until after the memorial service.
Whenever you think is the right time is good.
Meanwhile BBC Radio 4's obituary series, Last Word features Glenn. I missed the start but it will be available to listen again for the next few weeks. Some nice audio clips but unfortunately the last three songs they played had Don Henley on lead vocals. I see that they also feature Haskell Wexler who filmed the 1977 footage shown in the doc. He died on 27th December.

I like this one best.
Thanks everyone for your comments. Even though they make me cry, it does help to know there are lots of others that are affected. My husband has been very supportive.
AG, I'm sorry for what your mother said. Glad it's helping to come here.
ETA: I've been listening to Glenn's tribute on I Heart radio and I wish they would just feature Glenn's vocals instead of the whole bands too.
good morning everyone.
i'm scrolling thru my facebook and I see that Fastlane has posted a small post on Joe. I thought you all may wanna check it out. they are sweet. and so is Joe.
I read a statement from Bernie in the Lefsetz mailbag. Is that the one they posted? I'll definitely check it out if it's a different one.
