You answered your own question. The Smothers Brothers musical comedy act depended entirely on Tommy Smothers doing/saying stupid things and his brother Dick reacting to them, in addition to performing novelty songs. It was your classic buffoon/straight man routine with the addition of musical instruments. Typical formula: The Smothers Brothers start playing, Tommy screws up, Dick brings the song to a halt and yells at him, they have a funny argument.
Here's a sample:

It may show Don's age, but it was a pretty amusing comparison. lol

I know we've talked on here about how they weren't together when they made the LROOE album, but they must have rehearsed the songs together beforehand, right? It shows them in the studio either rehearsing or recording Hole In the World, and it made me wonder how much they were together during LROOE.
Remember "Hole in the World" was recorded several years before LROOE and all of footage of them in the studio doing that song was filmed for its video, released in 2003: http://vimeo.com/33989886
However, Glenn definitely painted a picture of them all working together - physically together - on the song "Long Road Out of Eden." That intrigued me and I wish we'd heard more about their process recording LROOE, which by other accounts was done mostly via email in separate studios.

Love love love how Soda's How Long YouTube video gets props from Glenn for being the catalyst that brought that song to their attention and ultimately made them record it. Cindy Frey was right - it does sound like a hit Eagles song.
Yes, that brought a big smile to my face, too! ;)
Re: Discussion of Eagles Documentary "History of the Eagles"
I'm getting a lot of mileage out of the concert DVD. If I had a dollar for every time I've watched it all the way through, I'd be pretty happy. ;)
I just watch Felder and Walsh and this happens: :jawdrop:
Re: Discussion of Eagles Documentary "History of the Eagles"
I've watched the doc twice now, but I haven't had a chance to watch the concert again, although I want to.
Re: Discussion of Eagles Documentary "History of the Eagles"

PrettyMaid - I think those scenes of Timothy rehearsing in a ponytail is the best he's ever looked. Good lord...

Spot on, if you ask me. As much as I love Don Henley, sometimes I want to slap him and say, "get happy already!!". :hilarious:
Here's the dictionary definition....
mal·con·tent
/ˌmalkənˈtent/
Noun
A person who is dissatisfied and rebellious.
Adjective
Dissatisfied and complaining or making trouble.
Synonyms
discontented - disgruntled - dissatisfied - disaffected
Yeah, I'd say that's Don.
Re: Discussion of Eagles Documentary "History of the Eagles"
While I agree that most times in interviews, etc, he has something he's not happy with, I will also put out there that Geffen was the pot calling the kettle black. There was even a pouty look on his face as he said it.
You know, Don admitted to making a mistake, that Geffen uses the same lines when he comes 'a-courtin' and he fell for it again. It works in reverse. Geffen knew what he was getting when he 'went a-courtin'. Knew he'd be getting a guy he'd tried to screw over once before, which gave Don a huge education in the music business. He knew what Don was like, yet he went after $$. I certainly don't feel sorry for him.

I've watched the doc so much I'm kind of burnt out on it at the moment (had it on DVR when Showtime aired it) but I love that concert DVD.
Re: Discussion of Eagles Documentary "History of the Eagles"
On the Henley/Geffen thing - I believe Don probably is a malcontent much of the time, so I agree on that with Geffen but in the way Geffen was talking about what happened I think Geffen is equally to blame. But even about other things Don likes to complain about. But I think sometimes he can be happy or smile but he's very opinionated and very outspoken about things - sometimes too much so...
