I don't think I've ever heard the story of Steve Martin coming up with the band's name...

Neither have I. The only reference that I have seen mentioning Steve in relation to the band's name was his appearance in the "Troubadours" documentary from a few years ago. Steve recalls that in the 70's that Glenn corrected him about the group's name telling him that it was Eagles not The Eagles. Steve commented in the doc that he thought that the name should be the latter. Maybe that's where the misconception in the article came from.:shrug:Quote:
