I don't think I've ever heard the story of Steve Martin coming up with the band's name...
Here's an article/interview with Don. I haven't had a chance to read it all yet.

Neither have I. The only reference that I have seen mentioning Steve in relation to the band's name was his appearance in the "Troubadours" documentary from a few years ago. Steve recalls that in the 70's that Glenn corrected him about the group's name telling him that it was Eagles not The Eagles. Steve commented in the doc that he thought that the name should be the latter. Maybe that's where the misconception in the article came from.
I read Steve Martin's autobiography Born Standing Up: A Comic's Life and remember him recounting the exchange between him and Glenn at The Troubadour regarding the band's name. Glenn saying it was Eagles and Steve insisting that it should be The Eagles. I can imagine both of them sitting there feeling no pain discussing/disagreeing on what the name should be. I bet it would have been funny watching them. And as Steve says, he guess they did not do so bad with the name Eagles.
Steve also wrote that he and Linda Ronstadt went on a few dates. And @ the fourth date I believe, it was then that Linda asked him if he went out with girls & did not try to sleep with them. Steve went on to say they broke up "chaste".
It was a good book and Steve writes in a conversational manner which makes for easy reading.
Thanks for that info, HB!
This is crazy.
I can't even believe this is real... Gawker can be hokey, but it links to the original report in the article
Woman stabs roommate for refusing to stop listening to the Eagles
I heard the teaser on the radio coming home from work just now. I haven't heard the story yet but I thought please don't let it be the Eagles. I will never hear the end of it at work!
Thank goodness I don't have a roommate!
