Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County available Sept. 25,
Well, I did manage to find the 'deluxe' version of the cd at my local Best Buy on Saturday. I was duped by 'deluxe' and thought it was the one with Stevie's song on it. I didn't realize you had to go to Target to get the 'super deluxe' version and kept thinking as I was listening, where is Stevie?. :weep: But, who knows when I would make it to a Target! Does anyone know if we'll be able to download the 2 extra songs? I hope!
I've only listened a couple times so far and haven't decided yet which songs I like best. I think most all are keepers!

Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County available Sept. 25,
Here's an article from Rolling Stone. What's your opinion on Don not doing any Eagles song. I say go Don.

Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County available Sept. 25,
I think it's a great idea. It's going back to the times when you'd expect bands to play songs from their latest album rather than just the greatest hits. Don's setting a good example.
-
Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County available Sept. 25,
I'm kind of torn. I think that it's good that Don will be focusing on Cass County for this tour, but I would think that he'd leave in a few Eagles songs. Witchy Woman would sound great mixed in with some CC songs, I think. (Of course, I won't be seeing any of his dhows so my opinion is kind of pointless)

It's going to remain "exclusive" for a while - maybe a year - but hopefully after that, it will be distributed through other stores and outlets such as iTunes. It all depends on what Henley's camp agreed to when they made the deal with Target.
What really annoys me is that you can't buy it online from Target's site and have it shipped to you. In-store pickup only. I know, I know, they do it to get you to come to the store in the hope that you'll buy other stuff while you're there, but it feels like they're holding the music hostage. Getting you physically into Target is more important than giving people who don't live near a Target an opportunity to legally purchase the music. Why? Because the music is secondary to Target; to them, Don Henley's art is nothing more than a wiggling worm on a hook.
(I say this as someone who drove for over an hour to get to a Target so I could buy one the day of release, and I picked up some nail polish while I was there. Not only that, I actively promoted the Target version to my Stevie fan friends, a Fleetwood Mac website, and on DHO. I prop up the corporate machinery even as I loathe it because I want the music more than I want to "make a statement". Then I feel like a hypocrite. Sometimes I wish I wasn't so self-aware, lol.)

Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County available Sept. 25,
I should go by Walmart to see how many copies they have. I know they had a lot of LROOE CDs. I was so shocked. I think they had 6 or 7 copies and this is what 7 or 8 years after the CD came out. I know the Eagles distribute through Walmart, but after a while it gets hard to find those cds.
The man told me at Target they only get a few copies of each albums. OK. That's stupid. My Walmart seem to not have it from what it said online and Target would not had it if I didn't hold it. They probably get lots of albums other "popular" stars. They probably see Don as this old musicians (they probably calling him a has been) trying to sell an album that won't sell.

I wouldn't use online inventory as an absolute, Shun. When levels get below a certain amount they make the item "unavailable" because there's no way for the internet to catch up with sales in the store. Let's say you buy the CD online, and choose to pick it up in the store. But there's only one copy left. And I pick it up before anyone can come get the one you ordered. Now your order gets cancelled, and that leads to customer disappointment. I would go to the Walmart and check in person.

He's probably preparing the audience, not to come expecting to hear all the hits and to dissuade them from yelling out for Eagles songs.
Don said in a previous interview that he spent about a $million making Cass County and that he doesn't expect it to make a profit, adding that, these days, the profit comes from touring. I get the feeling that the Cass County tour aint going to be a mega bucks affair, either.
I think he'll make more money, in the fullness of time, with the album.
I enjoyed seeing Timothy performing a set list of new songs, with a handful of oldies, I'm sure Don will be great too, with a similar set list. I think his audience will be mature enough not to become disenchanted or even hostile if the set list is not to their liking.
-
Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County available Sept. 25,
Well, I hope Don keeps his tour with all the CC songs and doesn't do as the Eagles did and start dropping the new songs and inserting the oldies but goodies.
I guess he isn't adding any more dates. No change in that for a while.
-
Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County available Sept. 25,
We have next year, Brooke. I'm still hoping for dates in early 2016 before the guys do decide to start back touring sometime in 2016.
-
Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County available Sept. 25,
I'm still really hoping he'll add more dates. It seems like a pretty small amount right now, doesn't it?
-
Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County available Sept. 25,
I'm still praying he'll come to Europe
-
Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County available Sept. 25,
I think that since the currents dates go through November, Don will probably spend the rest of the year with his family. I do hope that he does add more dates. With all of the press and praise of the album, it'd be a shame to not play it much live.
I want to give a very heartfelt thanks to NOLA. She bought a super deluxe vinyl version of the album for the book that came with it. However, she doesn't have a record player, so she had no use for the records. She asked me if I wanted them. They arrived yesterday, and I can't wait to play them!

Press and praise is all very well but I'm sure it'll be album sales that dictates whether or not Don extends his tour. If Don can sell records there's every chance that he'll be able to sell seats too. That makes Friday's chart, d-day.

Here's another article about Cass County.
http://www.saga.co.uk/magazine/enter...sic/don-henley
Its a good article. I was reading the article and Don now has said Annabel is his makeup artist on the road where as the interviewer in the other article said she was. Its good to hear that from the horse's mouth.

He may very well be able to sell seats even if the album isn't a huge hit. I think the commercial success of his tour will dictate whether or not he adds more dates - assuming, of course, the Eagles engine doesn't start back up again in the spring.
-
Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County available Sept. 25,
I was just watching The League & strangely Don Henley was mentioned. It had nothing to do with the Eagles or even football, which this show is about, just video blogging, Don Henley & magic.

I'm pretty sure that the press and positive reviews will help increase the albums sales.

Good point sodascouts, although I can't see a Henley solo tour being more lucrative than another Eagles tour. If the album sinks, I think the tour will go down with it. I'm delighted to say that, that looks unlikely. Cass County is still Amazon's top selling album by a veteran artist.
AG95, I'm not sure about press and positive reviews helping album sales. Stevie Nicks got loads of both for her last two albums but they weren't no Gangnam Style :-|

Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County available Sept. 25,
I’m with you on that one – two of those releases are albums released by a mature and thoughtful artist, the other was a single which became a huge hit through its gimmicky video and dance routines, a song which happened to be in the right place at the right time. I can say a lot more about the two different artists here but ultimately I feel this comparison is irrelevant, sales of albums and singles shouldn’t be directly compared. I don't think it is fair on Stevie Nicks and what she was trying to achieve with her music.
My belief is that good music is music that people connect to and stays with them, and that record sales alone do not reveal this. There are albums that have sold huge numbers of copies but are in retrospect widely seen as disappointing, or that people bought because it was considered ‘cool’ or fashionable to do so at the time. Then there are albums – and I would include an album like Desperado in this category – that weren’t commercially successful, but the people who did get them loved them, and many in cases still love them, and therefore have stood the test of time. If the people who do listen to Cass County love it and it stands up for them over the years, then I feel that is the true measure of success.
Having said that, I do hope that AG95 is correct and I think the promotion will have a positive effect on sales – I’m sure there will be plenty of people who’d like to hear the album but who don’t necessarily follow Henley or the Eagles online and therefore haven’t heard about it or don’t know that it has already been released.

I should've explained what I said in more detail. I'm not expecting CC to sale like that awful song you mentioned. What I meant by "*press and positive reviews will help increase the albums sales" was that casual Eagles/Don Henley fans might come across one of the articles or reviews, who didn't know about the release of Cass County like us hardcores did. The press and positive help get the word out there.
CC has a bit of a limited appeal. It's geared toward adults more, middle aged and older. It's a intellectual country album, something that's rare in this era of country. It's not Blake Shelton talking about "the boys 'round here" or Toby Keith with his "red solo cup" love.. Cass County wouldn't be very popular with country fans who are my age. They want happy, upbeat party songs.
I'm not expecting it to sell millions of copies, but I do expect it to do decent sales at minimum.
DD, glad that your copy finally arrived. :)

I can only speak for myself SteveJoburg, I love Cass County. I think it's one of the best Eagles, solo or band releases ever.
I was originally pretty sceptical, as this pre- album release post, suitably displays;

I really enjoy Glenn's After Hours but Don's Cass County sounds like it could be purgatory.

Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County available Sept. 25,
F50, too funny! You had to eat your own words!
Steve J, I am enjoying it immensely so far and I'm not a huge country music fan. I've only had time to listen a couple times. One thing I do know, it is quality country music with quality singers and musicians. Would we expect anything less of Don Henley? Nope! I really expect it to do very well for him. There are a couple songs that don't really sound all that country though, to me. That's good! I need a few more listens!
-
Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County available Sept. 25,
:hilarious:. That's a complete 180 right there, F50.
Count me as one who loves the album as well. The more I listen to it, the more I love it. Last night's vinyl listen was something else entirely. I really can't describe it.
-
Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County available Sept. 25,
I love love love the album. That's an underestimate. I have my cd copy in my CD player in my car. I download the cd to my computer and I have it on my itunes on my Iphone. It was a pain in the butt to get the songs to my phone. If the CDs that are giving to us free from ordering tickets part of album sells, he could get gold album.
I was looking at some of the places Don is playing at last night just to see how well the tickets were selling. I don't know how accurate it is, but he has sold out in 3 cities. (like I said I don't know how accurate it is because the tickets weren't showing up). At the other shows, their are a lot of seats left, but it was very scattered around the arenas and theater. So this tour could be successful. I really hope its very successful so Don can add a few dates next year.

Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County available Sept. 25,
Thanks guys. The quality of the music and recording is obviously beyond question, as anything DH does will be. I am hoping to find a physical copy here and so far I only have the iTunes download to go on. I had 4 albums on pre-order on iTunes which all came more or less in the same week, the new DH, new David Gilmour, Shawn Colvin and Keith Richards, and the DH was the one of the 4 I seemed to get into the least. I guess I just need to be in the right mood and give it a proper listen. I should also know that the albums I love the most and that have stood the test of time for me are the ones I had the longest courtships with...
-
Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County available Sept. 25,
Hope you don't mind me asking, but what do you think of Gilmour's new album? Most of the reviews I've read have been mixed, although I am a huge Floyd fan and am aware that The Endless River didn't get the best reviews either but I did still enjoy it.
I haven't listened to Cass County yet apart from Take A Picture Of This and That Old Flame (I liked both, but preferred the latter), it's sounding good though from the reviews I've read so far so I'll definitely listen to the album sooner rather than later, probably in the next week or so.

Loving the new Gilmour. I find it more... lively... than On An Island. Some great songs. Superb production too.

When I access the site, it says "shipping not available" and it only allows in-store pickup. Is yours getting shipped to your home?
Here's what I see when I go to the site:

If they're not shipping, those of us who don't live near Target still have to make the drive.
If they're shipping in some states but not others... well then WTH is that about???

So glad you are enjoying the records! :) They have a wonderful and loving home!
I had heard that the new 180-gram vinyl LPs have a clearer and sharper sound than CDs. Seems that more artists are releasing vinyl versions of their albums. Who knows - maybe the 8-track or cassette may make a comeback, too. ;-)
