Don was just being honest about his feelings so you have to respect that. Maybe he just wanted people to know who were criticizing the choice to make it a double album that it wasn't his fault. I don't agree with him but I can understand why he would want to distance himself from a choice he didn't make if he was embarrassed by that choice.
We don't know what Don would have kept either so maybe he would have dropped some of his own songs, although they are all so wonderful I don't know what he would have dropped.
There's such a thing as being too honest though. What he said about Tim and Joe makes them look pretty bad, some things are better left unsaid at least to the press.
Glenn 'bosses Don around' because Glenn is the band leader. Glenn has deferred to Don's wishes on numerous occasions. Look at Hell Freezes Over & the band's current setlist.
And yes, Glenn does know what Don's worth is. It is a shame that Don never feels the need to show similar appreciation of Glenn.
I cannot agree that Don's songs on LROOE are all 'so wonderful'. In my opinion Fast Company could have been dropped, as could Centre Of The Universe, although I do like that. There are a few people here who I don't believe would have shed many tears if the album did not contain Frail Grasp On The Big Picture (again, I like the song a lot).
As others have said, no matter what Don's private feelings were, once the album was released he should have attempted to show solidarity & help put up a united front. The 'it wasn't my fault!' approach is in my view extremely disrespectfull to his bandmates.
Still it should be remembered that after this particular interview the subject didn't really come up again. Until now, that is.

Re: 2013 Sundance Film Festival - DVD Premiere
Thanks to journalist Steve Wiseman for pointlessly reopening old wounds in a piece that's supposed to be about the DVD by quoting Souther's criticism.
-
Re: 2013 Sundance Film Festival - DVD Premier
I never knew about any of this, but hearing it doesn't bode well for ever getting another album from them does it?...and it gives me a gut ache and makes my heart hurt to hear any of them criticizing each other:-(

Re: 2013 Sundance Film Festival - DVD Premier
On the brigher side, Henley also said they had 4 or 5 additional songs that were in various stages of completion that didn't make it to the cds (not done in time and they couldn't afford to hold it up any longer). I wonder what happened to those?

"Never" may be a bit strong. I recall the interview in Taiwan where Don made a point of saying that Glenn co-wrote the lyrics to Hotel California - correcting the assumption made by the interviewer that he had done it all himself. There may be other examples.
I think some of Don's comments in that interview were a mistake (perhaps driven by a fear of fans thinking they were being self-indulgent putting out a double album?), but that was 5 years ago and he seems to be making an effort to present the "united band" thing now (as per the example above, and also the great interview they did in Beijing).
I'm really looking forward to the DVD coming out. Some parts may not be pretty viewing, but I love this band "warts and all".

Re: 2013 Sundance Film Festival - DVD Premier
Regardless of newspeople stirring up old debates with inflammatory statements.. I am sure looking forward to this DVD and hope we get more details soon on a release date and whether it'll be in theatres or go right to DVD!

During the 60 Minutes interview that the guys did a number of years ago, Don said that he believes that LROOE stands up to any of their previous work, so he has changed his tune somewhat.

Re: 2013 Sundance Film Festival - DVD Premier
Two things...
I've said before, I'll say it again, just because you read something in an 'interview' doesn't mean you're getting it all or getting it in context of how our guys, or JD, may have meant something.
Don did a few interviews this past spring in South Africa and Dubai where he said good things about Glenn. The links are on this board somewhere because I remember posting them.

Looks like this is dated 12/4 so it is probably one of the interviews already posted. But I thought it was interesting that Don F stated that he does have any hard feelings toward the other guys. (Hope I got that right)

I think you might have missed out the small but vital word 'not' from your sentence.
As in ".... Don F stated that he does not have...."

I'm sure you're right and the journalists twisted their words and they didn't mean anything bad at all, and it's all a big misunderstanding.

That was very nice of him.

Re: 2013 Sundance Film Festival - DVD Premier
Looks like part one is being released at Sundance, then going to cable TV for a month, and then will go on general sale.
Woohoo!!! :partytime:

He doesn't say that in this interview. He is not even directly quoted.

UK, thank you for the correction. Yep that what I meant to say.

I should have said 'article'. The article to which you linked.

Re: 2013 Sundance Film Festival - DVD Premier
What Don F says in the interview that's in the article is that he "doesn't harbor any ill feelings against any of those guys".
But what I find interesting in that interview is at the beginning when he says he was contacted to be a part of the film, "he felt it only appropriate that I was represented in that movie". Well, yeah!!! I just found it strange the way he worded it, as if they might even consider not doing so.
-
Re: 2013 Sundance Film Festival - DVD Premier
Mmm, I thought that sounded a little strange too. It was nice to hear an interview that sounded quite positive.

Sorry, I didn't realise it was the video link that was meant.
He probably did think they would try to airbrush him out of it.

Re: EAGLES PREMIERE DOCUMENTARY AT 2013 SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL
Sorry I just saw there's already a thread about it... I am so rusty
-
Re: 2013 Sundance Film Festival - DVD Premier
According to this Press release after the DVD premiere there will be a Q&A with producer Alex Gibney and director Alison Ellwood. There is also a contest through that link.
-
Re: EAGLES PREMIERE DOCUMENTARY AT 2013 SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL
That's ok - I'll merge the threads.

Re: 2013 Sundance Film Festival - DVD Premier
Do you think the guys will actually show up at Sundance? I'm not so sure they will? Is there any info on them actually making an appearance there?
-
Re: 2013 Sundance Film Festival - DVD Premiere
I'm pretty sure at least a couple of them will. It's a big deal and if they don't show up, the premiere of their movie won't get reported on nearly as much by the entertainment press. No photo ops of arriving celebs and red carpet interviews = considerably less attention.
-
Re: 2013 Sundance Film Festival - DVD Premier
Thanks for those links, VA. And OBTW - the closer it gets to the date, the more I wish I could be there as well. I REALLY would like to be at this.
And Soda, I agree that this is a big deal and surely some of the band members will make an appearance. I think it would actually be quite a snub to the festival if none of them were there.
-
Re: 2013 Sundance Film Festival - DVD Premier
I agree, I cannot see at least one or two of them not showing up. What would be the point of the DVD if you're not willing to promote it at something this big? I'm hoping they all show and it's really hyped up by the press but I'm selfish like that. :nahnah:

If anyone goes to this, my money is on Glenn & Joe. I can't see Henley showing up for this kind of thing. Timothy is a big maybe because for Part 1, well, he will hardly even be in in it much since it ends in 1980. Would be kind of cool if Felder, Bernie, or Randy showed up! Hope there is some press on them that we can see.
-
Re: 2013 Sundance Film Festival - DVD Premier
Well, we'll have to wait and see, but, my guess is all of the current lineup will be there, Tim's recovery permitting. I wouldn't be too surprised if the former members also make an appearance, although I'm not sure about Randy's health situation.

Wow, Dreamer. Do you seriously expect Felder to suddenly show up with the other band members? Just because he was interviewed for this DVD doesn't mean that they have resolved their differences personally.
I would not hazard a guess as to who if any of them would appear. I don't wish to be overly optimistic.
-
Re: 2013 Sundance Film Festival - DVD Premier
Well, why not? If Felder shows up, I certainly don't expect he'll be hanging with the current band members. But, it's a big enough place where he could show up without ever being in contact with the others. As I said above, I, obviously, don't know who will show, but I wouldn't be surprised if any of them are there. The only thing that would really surprise me is if none of them showed.

:hilarious: I have to wonder if someone photoshopped Felder out of that photo but it is hot!
-
Re: 2013 Sundance Film Festival - DVD Premiere
Wow, I've never seen that before either! EL - yeah I think some cropping must be going on, unless Felder had stepped out for a quick trip to the bathroom during the photoshoot. lol

Why would you think DH wouldn't show up? I bet he will -- not just to be supportive to the band, but because this is an exciting, unprecedented event in Eagles history. Why wouldn't he want to be there?? Unless there is a parental/personal conflict, I can't imagine why he wouldn't be there giving his full support. I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE to be there!!
