Re: Press and Discussion about Don's new album(s)
I think I saw from the tweets that Merle Haggard, Vince Gill(which I already heard he was going to be on that album. I can't wait to hear this song that Vince sings or plays on. My two favorite singers) and Dolly Parton will be guest stars on the album. This is going to be an interesting album.
I am a country fan, but I really don't like today's country. Give me some Clint Black, George Strait, Vince Gill, heck even Garth. LOL

Wow, I have missed 5 pages here! Over night! I knew something awesome must have happened!!
These songs sound just awesome and I am so glad it is finally coming to fruition! :yay: Don! Can't wait!
And this going on during the CMA Fest! Nashville is hopping!

I like the setting where he had his preview party. It looks like an old church. I wonder where it was at.

Cass County sounds like it's going to be a heartbreaker of an album and I can't want to hear it! !
One question though, is the Sept 18 release date worldwide or just in the US ?
I don't know anything about Tue/Fri releases as its been so long since I've waited for an actual album release. ....
That's what I was wondering, Lacken. Can you pre-order it from HMV or where?......so excited to hear Don and Vince Gill together...can't wait!

Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept
Thanks for that!
From the article:"Henley previewed eight tracks from
Cass County, and in that abbreviated list, the all-star guests included
Merle Haggard, Mick Jagger, Alison Krauss, Miranda Lambert, Martina McBride,
Ashley Monroe, Dolly Parton, Lucinda Williams and Trisha Yearwood."
Awesome! The only one missing is Stevie Nicks. ;) Well, it's also too bad Reba and Kenny Rogers aren't included. Then again, he's already sung duets with all three of those people, so he might have thought "Been there, done that" (not that such a mentality kept him from including Trisha Yearwood, so who knows).
A long while ago, we heard Lee Ann Womack and Ronnie Dunn would be on the album, but they're not mentioned here. I wonder if their songs didn't make the cut, or simply didn't make the article? After all, Vince didn't get mentioned either.
You know, the inclusion of Merle Haggard reminds me of the lyrics from "They're Not Here, They're Not Coming" where Don Sings "The radio won't play George and Merle." Let's hope that's not the case when he sings with Don Henley!
It looks like this has morphed from an album of largely covers to an album with a couple covers. YES. The more new original work, the better.
Finally, I'm a bit surprised that he shied away from calling it a country album. I thought that was the whole idea. Maybe he's worried that calling it country will limit radio play to country stations so he wants to be more inclusive. It would surprise me if he went terribly far outside of country-esque tunes due to the themes of the album - I don't expect a song like "Workin' It" - but we'll see. The definition of "country" nowadays is rather amorphous anyway.

Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept
I was thinking about an article I read. Their was a country singer who said in an article that rock and pop stars(whichever) should not put a country album (or whatever he said. I can't remember). I wonder how he would feel about Don putting out this album. LOL
-
Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept
Since the article says "abbreviated" list, I'm assuming that there's more artists than those listed.
I think that it'd be cool to hear Don's songs on my local country stations (or rock ones for that matter).
I'm glad that the album is going to mostly new material.
I hope that maybe soon, we'll get a track listing because I'm curious as to how many songs will be on the album besides the 8 previewed.
-
Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept
AWESOME news!! Thanks for all the postings!
I just went to Don's website to sign up for the mailings. Is that going to be the cover photo? I like it though it doesn't show his face.
-
Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept
I think there are more tracks that weren't previewed, so it's still a mystery on others who might collaborate with him. As for the 'country' genre, maybe that's from the label? Album of the year is more likely if it crosses genres. Face it, a lot of Classic Rock, and especially the Eagles, are more country than most of today's country. So if he stays true to himself on this, it does cross genres.
He said he will tour. Now...where and when? I'm betting a stop in Nashville about a month after I move back East. :(

Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept
A Don solo show in Nashville would be fantastic! I can't imagine he'd skip Nashville. Memphis is even better for me, but the odds aren't quite as good. I'd go to both if he did both.
The closest he's come solo since I've been a fan is freaking Oklahoma. I'm willing to travel, but it's nice when one doesn't have to go too far!
-
Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept
I'd love to see him solo, so... Don. Milwaukee. Milwaukee loves you. If by Miwaukee you mean me. :hilarious:
-
Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept
Interesting that the reporter for TRS was at the preview, but they said no official release date. The other lady said Sept. 18. Hmmm.
-
Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept
Heck I would drive the 3 hours to Memphis. Nashville is a maybe if its on a weekend. I would drive to my coast(like that will happen), Birmingham or New Orleans. I just really hope he will do dates in the south. Some artists seem to avoid the south. Heck more like Mississippi. Can't get anybody big here. Boston came last night and it was their first time. Their show sold out in days.
Don hasn't been here in Mississippi in years.

Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept
I don't have a driver's license nor a car of my own, so doubt that I'll get to see him live..
However, if he comes to somewhere like Tallahassee, Florida, I could probably convince my mom to take me (I wonder how cheap the nosebleed seats will be?) I'm usually a very broke person unfortunately.
ETA: I'm almost 4 hours from Atlanta and my mom refuses to drive on I-75 anywhere near the city (been there, done that, lucky to make it out in one piece during Friday afternoon rush hour traffic). I know that Albany is too small for him to play, and so is Dothan, Alabama. (City an hour away). I can hope for Columbus, Georgia (it's about the same distance as Tallahassee), but I'm doubtful.

Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept
VA, you crack me up!
I just saw this on Fb and now it's here too!
Classic Don!
I'm glad he helped write most of it.

Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept
I'm delighted by everything I've read about Cass County, accepting the strong country music element.
So far, there doesn't seem to be any songs with, the more admiral than enjoyable, unpleasant, self-righteous, condemnatory lyrical content, that Don's produced in the past. I'm looking forward to enjoying Cass County.
It's too early describe it but Cass County looks like it could be a warm hug of an album. Has Don turned into a Teddy Bear? :)
Thanks to everybody who has shared their comments, I've enjoyed reading them. I suppose texting during a press event is acceptable, even by Don. Many Thanks Jules Segovia.

From the second article that Shun posted:
Quote:
He first played the Tift Merritt song “Bramble Rose,” a mandolin waltz featuring Henely,Mick Jaggerand Miranda Lambert. The breathtaking, steel-soaked ballad “The Cost of Living” co-stars Henley withMerle Haggard.“Take a Picture of This” has the throb and lush melody of a classic Henley solo outing. The Martina McBride duet “That Old Flame” rocks like a No. 1 stone smash.Trisha Yearwood is the harmony singer on the power ballad “Words Can Break Your Heart.”
The Louvin Brothers chestnut “When I Stop Dreaming” drew loud applause for its arrangement as a duet with Dolly Parton. The shambling, stately, steady “Praying for Rain” has a chorus choir featuring Vince Gill, Alison Krauss, Kellie Pickler, Ashley Monroe and Yearwood. “Train in the Distance” is a rootsy, autbiographical outing with a background vocal by Lucinda Williams.
Mick Jagger and Miranda Lambert singing on the same song? That's definitely gonna be unique!
The more I read about it, the more I'm ready to listen to it! There's definitely a wide variety of singers on the album!
-
Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept
So Trisha is singing twice on the album. By herself on one song and with other singing on another one. Cool.

Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept
This one says Sept. 18, and that it's a global release date (I think).

Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept
Another take on it...
http://927thevan.com/blogs/classic-h...country-album/
On a side note, I've seen some items here and there... For those who don't know, there's a big brou-ha-ha in country music at the moment about country radio being dominated by men. So, I've seen several items and tweets that say it's nice to see so many females on Don's new album.
-
Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept
Well I'm certainly pleased to hear Miranda Lambert will be on it :inlove: ;)

I was just reading about global releases and New Music Fridays here and it seems that the global release is more for online releases so all countries can buy it at the same time (albums available at 1 a.m local time) so I hope it doesn't take too long for the actual CD to reach us on this side of the pond
Let the countdown begin!!

I can't wait to hear Trisha singing backup(or harmonizing) with Don. I've heard them blend good with Trisha singing lead and Don backing up. So I can't wait to hear the other way around

Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept
I'm anxious to hear his duet with Dolly Parton.
I wish that he would've gotten Reba McEntire to a duet with him. Imo, that'd be really awesome.
-
Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept
I found Tift Merritt version of Bramble Rose on Youtube.
I know Don will put his little spin to it, but I'm trying to picture myself hearing Mick and Don singing this song.
I probably will look the other songs that were recorded by other artist to get the feel of the song.

This is much the same, a little different spin. Personally, I like the name of the URL. If Don could save country music I might start listening to it again.

He did one with her on her duets album, but I love Reba (and Don, of course. ;)). I'd love to hear another one!

What's the name of the song he did with her? I must admit that even though I love Reba, I'm not familiar with her duet album.

Break Each Other's Hearts Again. Its a beautiful song. Don sound a little different. I almost didn't recognize him. Its like he dropped his singing voice just a little.

:woah:, I agree that it's a beautiful song.
If Don sounds like that on Cass County, I might start liking his singing voice more than Glenn's. I think that sounds better with that little difference.

Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept
In one of the interviews Don says 'I’m looking forward to whatever comes next…I’m still goofy enough to hope that my best work is ahead of me' ~ I love that attitude so much ~ this is a man who never says 'Hey I've achieved so much I can just sit back and do nothing now.' He always wants to keep creating.
-
Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept
I will go against the grain & say that the song I am most looking forward to is Bramble Rose with Sir Mick on vocals & harmonica. I must apologise to all my American friends. I have heard of most of these artists but I have never heard any of their songs. American country music means virtually nothing where I live.
-
Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept
In the words of Shania Twain, most of them 'don't impress me much'. I don't dislike them, either. Merle Haggard, of course, is a favorite. One or two of them, I have no idea what they've sung, either, so I can't make a judgment. I like a lot of what Dolly Parton has done, but she has a habit of over doing it sometimes. Still, even ones I don't care for, I know they do a fantastic job on this album, because otherwise, Don wouldn't have let their songs make the cut.
