Re: Discussion of Eagles Documentary "History of the Eagles"
The discussion of licensing is especially interesting - the philosophy is totally different in this century in regards to the use of songs in other media outlets, whereas with the classic rock acts it can be enormously expensive indeed. I'm always surprised when a film depends on licensed music rather than scoring, for example, because the latter is always a cheaper option. But the former has a wider appeal overall.
But yeah, not surprised to see discussion of mixing on an A/V board; I belong to some technical-based communities like Gearslutz and the SHF and I gotta lotta love for the techies, they're the unsung heroes of the business, IMO.
Re: Discussion of Eagles Documentary "History of the Eagles"
I have a question about some of the footage from the documentary. It's the original lineup in a TV studio with a dusky pink background with "cartwheels". They're all dressed in blue and Bernie's wearing a hat. It's not the BBC concert and it's not the Don Kirshner one. Does anyone know what it's from and if the rest of it's available?

It was a TV appearance called ABC In Concert & that is all there is.

I think the Witchy Woman clip posted by Shadowland in the Eagles video thread is also from that show. It's possible there's more out there not in circulation.

Same hat on Bernie but they're wearing different shirts and the background is different. I'll have to go hunting for a screencap.
The first clip is around minutes 50 into the documentary and it's Tequila Sunrise.

Oops... Looks like I got confused. Thanks for digging up my old screen caps... Looking at them is a very enjoyable way to be corrected. ;)
Re: Discussion of Eagles Documentary "History of the Eagles"
Granted I could be wrong but I don't think that appearance is from In Concert because - to my knowledge - the episode they were on was filmed live at Royce Hall (it's been in trading circles for a while) and this other looks to be a taped television appearance for a variety show of some kind. There's a difference between the way film and videotape looked back then, and the excerpt we see in the doc is an edited static two or three-camera setup. I say this because it almost looks like they were on the Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour or something, you know? Although not that one because it was cancelled before this could have taken place. They're on a soundstage which has been thematically setdressed. Those of you who grew up, like me, watching those shows in the 70s, I'm sure you know what I mean.
