And, I think it's a good song for any era. It may have been partly written as a response to what was happening in the world at the time, but I don't think that's why people liked it. It just sounds good.
I agree Mary, it's got a great sound and a catchy hook, easy to sing along to.
My guess is that while perhaps overstated, it did bring some calm to some people. It certainly is not only a fun song but an uplifting one at that. I use to think PEF was an uplifting song but if you think about the lyrics, it's kind of melancholic, especially the last half. Certainly Already Gone is uplifting and fun, in a vindictive kind of way.

I agree with your post too, Austin. To Bernie's point, he does say that TIE's success was "in part" due to the weariness of the protest movement and I think there is some truth to that. The late 60's were a very turbulent and tense time in this country, and I think America's youth were ready to get back to having a little bit of fun. As Glenn often says - timing is everything.

I like to see comments from musicians because (I assume) they have a better understanding of what goes on and whether it's a realistic representation. Of course, Jack Tempchin wasn't likely to be too critical as he still has a relationship with the band but nice to learn that he liked it.
He probably was really excited to be interviewed as well.
Jack Tempchin seems like such a nice laid back kind of guy from what I see on FB. I don't think he has an unkind word for anybody.
Does anyone know when the interviews for the doc were filmed? I'm especially interested in when Randy's interview was done.

I am going to throw out sometime around August, 2012, but I have no authority for that and am not sure why I think it was around then. Hopefully someone with more actual knowledge will come along!
