Mike - I have to say that as a rule, we ladies are not as competitive as you men are! I think the idea of a contest in which we rate parodies and try to find the "best" might take some of the fun out of it. In fact, I'd get a complex about writing these if I came in dead last! ;)

Yeah, otherwise folks might get the impression that Don Henley endorses the eating of guacamole, cheesecake, and various heartburn-inducing foods! I can buy that. But I still think there should be a CD burned with the parodies we have here. The same Songs with rewritten lyrics could be stacked together with extended verses. No Contest....just hilarious music <LOL>

And as for Mr. Henley....we aren't robbing him, Glenn, Joe or Tim (hmmmm...that rhymes!) of any intellectual property and as of "yet" haven't plagiarized any music. Don't think we'd have to worry too much about the music anyway....If I played any of it, it wouldn't be recognizable anyway <LOL>

I "knocked off" "Ordinary Average Guy" as a parody commemorating Joe Walsh's birthday...55th or 56th I think. Called it "Extraordinary Average Guy". Basically it was a documentary of the preps and experiences my wife and I had while on Concert Trips (Eagles, Joe and Stone Temple Pilot and Joe and the James Gang).

It went over pretty well. Don't think Joe minded. In fact, I think through JWFC, it was sent to Joe. Others contributed verses to it also. I'd post it here but I've gone through three or four computers since then and have lost it.

I think that just as with Writing prose or Public Speaking, one should attempt to write about things that they are passionate about or have extreme knowledge of... preferably BOTH. I think that is why most really good songwriters write so much about emotional involvements....especially when just starting out.

To be "popular", one must ALSO include a factor of writing something that is a passionate topic for the listener <LOL> Maybe that's why "Love Songs" are (or were) the most popular Hits. Generally speaking, that is a topic most people get pretty excited about! I think it takes someone cracking the popularity charts before they can start selling themselves with more serious "Social and Political" topics.

Can you imagine the Eagles writing successfully about "War" before they wrote "Tequila Sunrise"?

But those days are over! Today I made some guacamole to have with our Mexican dinner tonight. Now mind you I haven't had a chance to eat any of it yet (I did have a little taste of the avocado), but the point is I'm trying something I've never had before all because of The Border! :yay:
