Congratulations to Heartache Tonight
Congrats to Heartache Tonight!!! Tho it's not the song I voted for, it was still a win/win for me!! It was my 2nd and as I said from the get go, I really didn't care which of those 2 songs won. LOVE them both!!
CONGRATS TO HEARTACHE TONIGHT! :rockguitar::band::guitar:
Love it, love it, love it! Well done! Any of the last three could have won for me, but HT is my favorite from this album. We made it come out right!
Thanks for a fun game once again, Soda and Dreamer!
Congratulations to Heartache Tonight!
I was just cleaning out some stuff and found my few brief notes I took for this game. Never even looked at them because I knew exactly how I wanted it to go down.
Here's what they say....
Those Shoes-love the tune. Wonder if they had someone in mind when it was written. Love the way the line "You want someone to talk to. They just want to get their hands on you." is said.
In The City-Tho the harmony is good, I find it a bit boring.
The Long Run-Each voice is so distinctive. Can pick out each voice and who it belongs to. Was he thinking of a certain debutante in Houston? Love the way "Long, long, long, long" keeps getting lower and lower at the end.
I Can't Tell You Why-Tim's voice is amazing...emotional and soulful. I remember the first time I heard it, I was "lost" in it. Sells it with the emotion in his voice. Remember realizing that my favorite song on the album was sung by that beautiful new bass player!
The Sad Cafe-Love the words and Don's voice. The Distinctive voices again. Love when can make out who each voice belongs to.
Heartache Tonight-Love the beginning, "Someone's gonna hurt someone before the night is thru". Grabs you right from the top! Love every word of this song. The Don't want the night to end feeling here.
Teenage Jail-All I can think of is, "what were they thinking".
King Of Hollywood-The sexy voice of Don helps sell this. You can feel the "sleaze" of this guy. Glenn and Don's voices mesh so well. Tho redundant, how can anyone hear "We gonna take care of ..." and not want to melt.
Disco Strangler-Not as bad as some people make it out to be. Some of the phrases..."And Rome is burning but that's alright"... WHAT?
Greeks Don't Want No Freaks-What the heck? "Half hour later, you were barfing all over your girlfriend's shoes." Seriously? How drunk/high were Glenn & Don when they wrote it? I remember I use to love the line, "found her in the bushes with the boys in the band." Yeah--- I wish!!!
LOL! That line you picked out in Disco Strangler is the only one I like.
"He's the filddler in your darkest night - and Rome is burning, but that's alright."
It refers to the old legend that the Roman emperor Nero played the fiddle while Rome burned. I almost made that one of our Survivor immunity questions, in fact.
If the song is presenting the disco phenomenon as strangling rock'n'roll, one could interpret the "Rome is burning" reference as a metaphor for the blithe lack of concern about the obliteration of good music from the consciousness of the disco-lovin' populace. Just guessing. If I'm right, though, it was very cleverly done. I give "Disco Strangler" props for that, and that alone. lol
I'm so very happy that Heartache Tonight won!!! One of my favorite parts of the song is around the 2:40 mark when Glenn sings "Somebody" and at the 2:55 mark when he sings "Everybody". I often rewind those parts because I just LOVE his voice right there. There's something about the way he sings those two words that just makes me melt every time. Glenn's voice throughout the song is superb and for me this song goes down as one of Glenn's best on lead vocals.
I'd also like to give ICTYW a big round of applause. Although I'm partial to the rockers this song is one of the best of all of the Eagles ballads and it held strong against one of their best rocking out songs. :applause:
Congratulations to Heartache Tonight.
I had two songs in mind to win for the final round. In the City (my first pick) and Heartache Tonight. Since ITC didn't win, I'm glad Heartache Tonight did. :)
