Re: Hearing the Eagles or solo songs unexpectedly!
I hate it sometimes, Brooke. I try my best to NOT go to Walmart.
Speaking of Walmart. Last week while trying to get my costume I ordered online and How Long came on. I was shocked to here it. I also hear Love Will Keep Us Alive somewhere. I don't remember.

Re: Hearing the Eagles or solo songs unexpectedly!
A little while ago, Classic Vinyl played Best of My Love, and now Classic Rewind is playing Those Shoes. I'm sitting here smiling, my eyes closed, and thinking about being at one of the HOTE concerts.

Re: Hearing the Eagles or solo songs unexpectedly!
Forgot to mention I heard "Victim Of Love" the other day on the radio on the way to the airport! Normally don't hear it on the radio.
-
Re: Hearing the Eagles or solo songs unexpectedly!
Today I heard New Kid In Town while I was getting my teeth cleaned at the dentist's office. I can't really say that I heard it unexpectedly as it's rare that I don't hear an Eagles song there.

Re: Hearing the Eagles or solo songs unexpectedly!
Seeing Joe strumming the opening chords of County Fair during the Foo Fighter documentary. That song has been dormant since he released it in 1974! (but not in my record collection) ;)

Re: Hearing the Eagles or solo songs unexpectedly!
Well, I decided to go to the grocery store yesterday to try to beat the Thanksgiving crowd - it didn't work! I was in the store for over 1 1/2 hours. But, on the positive side is that while in there, I heard How Long, and then a little while later they played Lyin' Eyes. They both brought a big smile to my face!

Re: Hearing the Eagles or solo songs unexpectedly!
Cool! How did he do?
I'm watching Jobs, the documentary about Steve Jobs, and they just played "Life's Been Good" as he's putting together the first prototype home computer. Neat!

For the first time since it was released, almost exactly 40 years ago, Joe performed County Fair live, at his New York show last night!
Hail the Foo Fighters!

I believe the Eagles were his favourite band.

Re: Hearing the Eagles or solo songs unexpectedly!
He did great, but it was more like Travis Trit. I hope he makes it to the semis.

Re: Hearing the Eagles or solo songs unexpectedly!
I just heard a Glenn song on the radio I was not familiar with. The local radio station was playing requests for charity money and they played "Party Town"... I was not familiar with it - I think it might just be my favorite Glenn solo tune. I love how groovin' it is. Very Chuck Berry. I seriously love this song. It's a rocker. How I didn't know about it before but I didn't. Perhaps I heard it but never truly gave it any time.
My favorite line (it has to be said): "And told everybody they could kiss my @ss". Almost like Already Gone, it has a stick-it-to-the-man vibe and is an uplifting song.... I love all the lyrics though and the guitar work is quite nice.

Re: Hearing the Eagles or solo songs unexpectedly!
This is one of my favorites by Glenn, too. I wish he would rock out more because he definitely can do it!

It's from No Fun Aloud. It is not a particular favourite of mine. He did do a version of it in Tokyo where he combined it with I Saw Her Standing There, which as far as I was concerned was the highlight.
But it's in the Dublin video, Austin. You have seen that, haven't you?

Yeah I have. I guess I just never really gave it a critical or serious listen... I really like uptempo shuffle type songs and am a sucker for those so I really liked this one off the bat once I actually listened to it like I did Smuggler's Blues, The Heat Is On, You Belong To The City, etc.

It's always a fun surprise to rediscover a song like that!

Yep!

Re: Hearing the Eagles or solo songs unexpectedly!
I am one that loves Partytown - I know it's an adolescent romp, but that's what it's supposed to be. To me, it's a really good song and it's just plain FUN!
Austin, have you ever listened to the entire No Fun Aloud album? If not, you may want to give it a listen. I have a feeling you would like a lot of it.

Re: Hearing the Eagles or solo songs unexpectedly!
Strictly Come Dancing (UK DWTS) opened with an "american smooth" danced to Heartache Tonight. It seemed an odd combination but in a way rather neat that the first time I've watched it this season, they had an Eagles tune.

I have it on vinyl but never listened to it! I'll do that tonight...

I don't know if they played an Eagles' song on the American version, but one season(I forgot which one), the contestant and the pro had the song Best Of My Love to dance the waltz too and they were like who are the Eagles. I was shocked that they didn't know who the Eagles were or that song. I think they end up not dancing to that song and used another song.

Re: Hearing the Eagles or solo songs unexpectedly!
This morning I was driving to work and switched from the Christian music station I normally listen to (The Message) and put it on Classic Rewind. Journey was playing and I was thinking of switching to CD because I wanted to hear the Eagles, and I wanted to hear one that Don sings leads on. I was trying to decide which one I wanted to hear when Those Shoes came on the radio!
-
Re: Hearing the Eagles or solo songs unexpectedly!
Don't you love it when you are listening to the radio thinking I wish they would play an EAGLES song & then it comes on! Makes me smile!
-
Re: Hearing the Eagles or solo songs unexpectedly!
I always love it when I'm on here and an Eagles song comes on the radio.
Just now as I mentioned in the 'what are you listening to' thread Hotel California came on the radio! Appropriate!
-
Re: Hearing the Eagles or solo songs unexpectedly!
I had a wonderful drive home from work yesterday. Our classic rock station is paying tribute to Hotel California this week so they have been playing the album's songs plus some old interviews. Yesterday the interview was from @ 2007/2008 and Don H. said "there's a certain sound that we make together and I can't sound like that with anyone else."
I for one LOVE that sound! :hilarious:
Then I got to hear VOL, NKIT, WT, & HC. That commute just flew by!!
-
Re: Hearing the Eagles or solo songs unexpectedly!
I love that radio station!
-
Re: Hearing the Eagles or solo songs unexpectedly!
Was listening to Classic Vinyl on the way home from work and they played Funk #49. I didn't care for the next song, so I changed it to Classic Rewind, and they were playing Life's Been Good!!
-
Re: Hearing the Eagles or solo songs unexpectedly!
Well - It's hard to complain about being double-Joe'd that's for sure!

Re: Hearing the Eagles or solo songs unexpectedly!
I loved it! Today they played Dirty Laundry, which was great, and right now as I was reading Dreamer's reply SiriusXM Holly is playing Please Come For Christmas. Of course, they say it's by The Eagles and not Eagles.
-
Re: Hearing the Eagles or solo songs unexpectedly!
A couple of days ago I heard Please Come Home For Christmas in a supermarket - sadly it was not the Eagles version. I can't say I was a fan of it, I thought it was rather histrionic (it was a female singer - couldn't recognise the voice though). Ultimately it reinforced how much I like Don Henley's more understated vocal, I think one of PCHFC's greatest virtues is its organic sound and lack of gimmicks which I find quite refreshing compared to a lot of other modern Christmas songs.
One little story I do have is that the first time I ever heard Busy Being Fabulous was in a store - I recognised the voice as Don's and could hear the backing vocals and guitars which gave it the stamp of an Eagles song. A pleasant surprise, good to hear one of the less well known tunes (where I come from the main two radio staples seem to be Lyin' Eyes and Life In The Fast Lane, I've heard those several times each).

Re: Hearing the Eagles or solo songs unexpectedly!
On my first day back to work this week after a christmas, new years and birthday staycation, I was awoken by my alarm with the radio station playing New Kid in Town! I was like aww what a nice surprise and a great way to brighten a day when I didn't want to be getting up at 5am!
-
Re: Hearing the Eagles or solo songs unexpectedly!
I love it when that happens, too, T&H! Makes the start to the day so much better!

I have an Eagles CD in my alarm clock so I get to hear it every morning. ;)

That's a good idea. I might be less cranky and resentful in the mornings if I woke up to a refreshing blast of "Life in the Fast Lane."

Re: Hearing the Eagles or solo songs unexpectedly!
Listening to Classic Rewind and the DJ just said about how the Eagles had rough show about a week ago, then went on to say what happened at Hanging Rock. Mentioned that Glenn had told everyone to 'get out of here' and that Don assured everyone they'd be back. Then returned 45 minutes later to play One of These Nights. Then he laughed and said it was a nice thing about the Eagles, always full of humor.
I guess he doesn't know that One of These Nights was merely next on the setlist! At any rate, he followed this up with playing LITFL.
