Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept
The indicator for me is the CEO of Capitol Records calling it "album of the year". Of course he's biased towards albums Capitol is putting out, but that's still a lot to choose from. Bob Lefsetz's remarks were pretty nice as well. I agree, F50, that the preview was a hand picked group, but I still think this is going to be great.

Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept
Well, I for one can't wait cos I'm a big country fan and of course an even bigger Don fan! The lyrics he produces are so thought provoking and he hasn't lost it judging by the sneak preview we got of Train in the Distance -
"you can ride that train to the far end of creation. Away from everything and everyone you know. You better make friends with your angels and your demons. They will be riding with you wherever you go. But, you have to go..."
I find that very profound and moving and it reminds me of a line form the musical The Hired Man - "you take yourself with you wherever you go."
.....and 17 songs!!!!....yiphee....

I'm trying to figure out how Mick Jagger fits in! Everyone else is country!
Love Vince Gill, Merle Haggard, and Miranda Lambert especially!

Hmm, if there's 17 songs, that means that less than half were previewed. That leads me to believe that they are more people on this album that the ones we've heard about. I wonder if Don will sing a song or 2 by himself? (I'm hoping for that).
If people based their opinions on less than half of the album, that still leaves a lot about the album that we don't know.( This might be a good thing. It's just that I've never liked surprises. )
I wonder if Don will wait until the last Eagles shows over in July before starting to promote this album? My guess is yes. Let the mothership land first.

Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept
Maybe Don thought that Mick Jagger world appeal to his more rock oriented fans?
I'm interested to how Jagger will sound with Miranda Lambert because, from an earlier article posted on here, they're singing on the same song!

Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept
I think I read that all three are sharing verses. It will be interesting.

Fair enough, Brooke though I think I read that Mick is doing a 'Gram Parsons' like turn....so could be interesting...

In one of the videos someone linked to on here back when it was announced (I think it was AG95), Don implied strongly that there would be some form of Deluxe edition, citing as you do the fact that it's the way of the (music) world at the moment.

Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept
The number 17 in that one interview may have come from the Chideo video, in which he said, a year ago, that he had 17, would record a few more, then the culling process would begin. So we can't count on 17, in my opinion.

17 tracks is a LOT. I do hope there aren't any covers of Eagles songs as was rumoured. I was quite clear on that point that I regarded it as completely unnecessary.
AG95, he can't really start to promote it until September when it's released.

Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept
This says he'll tour solo in the fall, and has a nice picture in it.

AG95, he can and likely will promote it before it's released, just not with a tour. The tour will come after the release. The promotion beforehand will likely be interviews in various places, and might not happen until only a week or two before the release.

That is one serious quiff he's got going there, even though its probably just the wind blowing through his hair
One thing I've found in all these press releases (even though they all seem to be rehashes of just one) - everyone is amazed that he is a nice, normal guy !! But we all knew that anyway :)
I really hope he includes Europe in his fall tour!! If he doesn't, I might change my mind about him being "mostly" a nice, normal guy :eyebrow:

Interviews are what I was referring to by "promote". I'm sure that Don would want some to rest before going on tour again, and there's little point in tourinh beforehand.

Lacken, I have no idea why it worked out this way, but both Glenn and Joe went to the UK to do appearances and interviews, but neither toured. Glenn went to Australia and did appearances and interviews and announced a tour. I have no idea, just throwing out ideas, but the line in the documentary, from HFO, from 20 years ago, they said it was expensive to tour in Europe. I know the company I work for has to pay a lot more for the employees that work in Europe as opposed to elsewhere, so I'm not sure if that's it or not.
I hope he does tour there, but I think it'll come down to how much money he stands to make - the amount of money he needs to pay out, and if that difference is enough to make it worth it to him.
-
Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept
He only toured Europe once, for EOTI, and I would doubt that he thinks this album is really intended for a European audience (in my view, Europe would have lapped After Hours up, just as Australia did).

I completely agree with you on this - its very expensive to work/tour in other countries especially with visas, work permits etc so that's why I'm hoping he does consider it in his benefit to tour Europe.
Hopefully the outgoings and expenditure are less for a solo tour than for a band, and this might convince him to tour here.....
Will have to keep sending "Tour Here" thoughts to him !!

I'm looking all these new pictures of Don. I love the one with the cowboy at the same place. I notice he's got his hair real short in the back.
I'm really looking forward to the new photos that will be coming out the next couples of months when he starts to promote Cass County.

Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept
I was looking at the photo of Don with the guitar. I notice under the caption that the photo was courtesy of AARP. Hmm Will their be an article in the AARP magazine? I'm definitely gonna have to be on the lookout if their will be. My mother gets that magazine.

Don included Europe, or at least England in a mini-tour in 2009, Lacken. He played in London and Norfolk (????), so here's hoping he comes across the Irish Sea and we'll be waiting for him!!!
btw, I love the 'Elvis quiff' too! :)

What venue's were those? It's the first I've heard :eyebrow:
As all the other Eagles have done it, it's more than likely that Don will do some promotion in the UK, maybe even just down the road at Media City in Salford/Manchester. I'd guess he'd be the most likely Eagle to play live shows too (Tim's were a most welcome surprise).
I know Don released a concert DVD and did a live TV Special to promote Inside Job. I think he played on morning TV too so I'm sure there will be something to look forward to even if he shuns a European tour.
It'll be wonderful if Don does do some live stuff, on this side of the Atlantic, especially if it's filmed for TV. Don comes across as a lot more amiable and personable when he's off Eagles duty.

Nice pictures of Don. I like the first one. HE didn't wear his plaid shirt. All black with a tan/brownish jacket. Don look purty.
Its funny we didn't know about this one like Nashville. :hilarious:

I wonder who Peter Thorn is? Never heard of him.

Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept
I have, but I forget why!! Someone here will know...
ETA: He is one of the guitarists that Don has had play for him both live and in the studio.
-
Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept
Oh ok. I think I remember him. He's not in Don's current solo band right? I know he has a bass player and his other guitar player that's not part of the Eagles band.
-
Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept
Ok. I saw on Facebook that Peter is in Don's current band. So he's the other guy I didn't know his name. I don't know the bass player's name either. I know his been in Don's band for over 10 years. I remember seeing him in the IJ DVD.

Okay, some clarification required. I have a tee-shirt from the Walden Woods project which lists Don's tour from 2009 and includes London and Norfolk....strange choice I thought of Norfolk (though I've nothing personally against the place) so I did some more checking and it turns out to be Norfolk, Virginia and London, Ontario  Mea culpa on my part...I knew it was too good to be true that he included Europe - darn :brickwall:

Knew it was too good to be true DD - :-(
We'll just have to convince him to tour here !!

Don looks great in those photos from the LA preview.
I didn't recognize Will Hollis either!

So it looks like their are 16 songs and their will be a deluxe CD. I'm looking forward to knowing what the other 8 songs are.

Shun, you read my mind. I was going to pretty much the exact same thing you did.
It looks like the same 8 songs were previewed.
-
Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept
I don't think artists have 8 songs on their albums anymore. Its usually between 10 to 12.
I know I read somewhere that Vince does a song by myself with Don. So that's of the 8 songs we haven't heard.
-
Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept
This is pure speculation on my part, but I think that a deluxe edition of Cass County will be similar to the deluxe edition of LROOE(which I still need to get my hands on). The regular album will probably contain 12-14 songs, with deluxe version having the full 16 and a bigger booklet/packaging. Most new albums released now come with a free download of the album, at least here in the states. I think that the deluxe edition will have to contain more than just bonus songs to appeal to the no so hardcore fans. Again, that's just my thinking.
Now, I'm waiting to hear if the album will just be a cd/digital release or will there also be vinyl copies made?

Re: Press and Disussion about Don Henley's new album Cass County due in Sept

When Don toured England in 1989, he played a few arenas (There weren't many around to play then). The show I attended (at Birmingham NEC) was far from full, although a decent sized crowd.
Trying to think back to 1989, I can't decide whether Don is more or less relevant now, than he was then.
If Cass County is as good as they say it is, that and the impact of HFO and the continuing success of the Eagles, could eclipse the impact of The End Of The Innocence album, at least here in the UK... but that's iffy speculation.
