Re: Little things that remind you of the Eagles
I am amazed but I just bought a Beach House down by the Ocean near the Great Ocean Road,in a gorgeous place called Airey's Inlet.
Apart from it being a beautiful special place, at the end of the road where the Beach is, I find none other than EAGLE ROCK PARADE.
IT IS SUCH A MAGIC PLACE, WE ARE JUST SHIFTING IN THE FURNITURE NOW, JUST THE PLACE TO LISTEN TO A BIT OF MAGICAL MUSIC.
You cannot get any closer to the beach than Eagle Rock Parade,I am going down there this week for my first time.
It is just so fitting, as i love the Eagles. I loved them when i was young, now they are even better, some of us get better with age, and they certainly have, even though my favourite is Timothy.A bit shy,and humble, i like that!!!
Romantic, give me every time!!!!!!!

Re: Little Things That Remind You Of Glenn
A student of mine was telling me his friend is gone to Detroit for a week in holiday. I nearly replied 'Oh, the city where Mother is half a word'

I have to ask about the meaning of this...I am not up on my Glenn. thanks
-
Re: Little Things That Remind You Of Glenn
Well Zelda, Glenn  is from Detroit, and often makes that comment at some stage during a gig. I'll leave it to your imagination what the other half of the word is!

Re: Little Things That Remind You Of Glenn
Oh, I get it... I'm a little dense at times.:):brickwall:

Re: Little things that remind you of the Eagles
I'm watching Elvis Presley's Blue Hawaii and one of the MANY tunes he sang (specifically, "Rock-a-Hula Baby") has the lyric "All she wants to do is dance." Need I say more? ;)

Re: Little things that remind you of the Eagles
Soda - Love that the picture of Glenn is hanging in the Memphis Rock and Soul Museum, but I agree with you that it appears very unprofessional that his name is misspelled. Maybe you should contact the museum and let them know about. If they are true professionals, I think they would appreciate you letting them know and take measure to quickly get it corrected.
And I had to laugh about the song in Blue Hawaii reminding you of ASWTDID. I've seen the movie several times, but definitely never noticed that.
And finally, I went to Myrtle Beach over the weekend to my niece's cheerleading competition. They have a souvenir beach shop chain down there named, of all things .... Eagles. I must have seen ten of the shops within a two mile radius. :partytime:

Re: Little things that remind you of the Eagles
Cool Dreamer! You'd HAVE to buy something there! Even just for the bag!
For the record, over here most people pronounce Glenn 's name as Frey (pronounced 'Fray') Laura has been known to call out 'Frey' at Radio DJs who make this mistake as well! I'm doing my best but its hard work trying to convert a population of 4 million.
However he does have a good following here! I'm hoping it will translate into enough album sales to make him think its worth touring here in the Autumn. (Yeah. Right)
I was browsing the Hard Rock website and came across the 'Leather and Lace' bracelet. It reminded me of Don H.

This was my Groupon for today:
Up to 65% Off at Eagle Ridge Golf Club
I'm sure that I have Google key words to thank for that.

Re: Little things that remind you of the Eagles
I was in Wally World yesterday and in the the food section there was this huge display called "On the Border" I think it was for tortilla chips. I just started laughing and the people near me probably thought I was nuts.

Re: Little things that remind you of the Eagles
My daughter's boyfriend is in the Advanced Guitar Ensemble at school. Tonight she reported that they're currently learning "Hotel California". I can't wait to hear it! It sounds like her boyfriend has Glenn's part.

Re: Little things that remind you of the Eagles
Cool!
I was reminded of Don today.
April 4 is the anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr's death, and it occurred in Memphis. The city took the opportunity to honor him by renaming one of the streets "Martin Luther King Avenue" today.
The street's former name? Linden.

Re: Little Things That Remind You Of Glenn
Walking down the shopping mall yesterday Laura and I came across this sign advertising a new movie.......

Re: Little Things That Remind You Of Glenn
Sound exactly like what goes on in our car EK! Including the eye rolling. I remember documenting about 4years ago we were away. It was nearly midnight and Laura would not go to sleep. Hubby said 'Laura if you don't settle and go to sleep theres no Glenn Frey music on the car radio tomorrow'

Re: Little things that remind you of the Eagles
Kiwi, On The Border tortilla chips are the only brand I buy! Aside from the image it conjurs of our favorite band, they're danged good.
On a slightly different note, I just finished reading a book called 'a soft place to land' by Susan Rebecca White. The main character, Ruthie, is talking about one of her English class, says they are reading the Odyssey, and goes on to say the teacher starts talking about 'siren songs'. As the discussion evolves the students ask the teacher to sing them a siren song. As Ruthie describes it....
"Mr. Roman stepped out from behind the podium where he had been lecturing, tucked his hands into the pockets of his chinos, fixed his gaze somewhere above the girls, and began singing in a clear, unwavering voice about a desperado who needed to come to his senses."
"He was singing something about the queen of diamonds, the queen of hearts."
"Mr. Ronan had (finally) reached the apex of the song, the repeated line, sung with gusto, demanding that the desperado accept love."
I nearly fell off the chair laughing! But it was the LAST thing I expect to see in this book.

Re: Little things that remind you of the Eagles
Went out to dinner with friends and the music system played Take It Easy. Sung by Jackson Browne. I thought it sounded like him, but I had to run it by Shazam to make sure!
-
Re: Little things that remind you of the Eagles
I reminded myself of the Eagles yesterday. I was having a conversation about some not so pleasant stuff and I made a comment that "most of us are sad at times". Once I said it, it hit me where I had heard that before.

Re: Little things that remind you of the Eagles
I have booked my flights to Oklahoma for May, and this time I have to go with a different airline (the cheapest!) so, instead of stopping in Dallas, I have to stop in Detroit both ways! I think you can guess which particular Eagle I thought of...
-
Re: Little things that remind you of the Eagles
Ah, Detroit, where mother is half a word...
-
Re: Little things that remind you of the Eagles
Anything that makes you think of Glenn is a good thing, lol.
I thought you were going to say that booking the trip made you think of Joe!
-
Re: Little things that remind you of the Eagles
Well, yes - I suppose it does!

Re: Little Things That Remind You Of Glenn
Driving to work I noticed the license plate in front of me had the letters GLF in the middle just as the opening strains of Take It Easy came on the radio. lol

Re: Little Things That Remind You Of Glenn
At dinner last evening, The Look of Love came on the music system. Not sure who sang it, it was a guy, and there was too much background noise for Shazam to figure it out. But it made me smile.

Re: Little Things That Remind You Of Glenn
Dusty Springfield does a good version of it which they play on my radio from time to time. I wonder will they play anything from After Hours when it's released. If they don't mention it I think I will send in a copy to one or two of the DJ's that play his other stuff.

I cracked up at this today...I was at the library and saw a book which was two novels in one book by Colleen McCullough (she wrote The Thorn Birds). The first novel is called "Tim" and the second novel is "An Indecent Obsession"...People were looking at me strangely because I started laughing and couldn't stop...I had to leave the library...:hilarious:

I tried listening to Springfield's version & I thought her voice was far too breathy for it. I feel I've heard the definitive version. :partytime:
