1968 The Bee Gees make their first-ever appearance in the U.S., at the Anaheim, California Convention Center (then head immediately back to England).
1973 Sweet's "Blockbuster" tops the UK charts where it will remain for five weeks.

Shortly after takeoff, the plane crashes eight miles northwest of the airfield, killing Holly, Ritchie Valens, J.P. Richardson (a.k.a. The Big Bopper) and pilot Roger Peterson.
1973 Elton John's "Crocodile Rock" hits #1. It is the first of a half dozen chart-topping singles for John over the next three years.

1978 "Stayin' Alive," whose thunderous disco beat plays in the opening scene of 'Saturday Night Fever', reaches #1 for the first of four weeks.
1978 Queen's biggest hit of the Seventies, "We Are the Champions," reaches #4 in the U.S. (#2 in Britain). The Bee Gees' "Stayin' Alive" holds down the top spot.
