Re: Glenn to induct Linda Ronstadt into HOF on April 10
Now there were two reactions shots from the audience.
The first was when the guy inducting KISS was talking about how wild and crazy their show was, lasers and confetti and all that.... Glenn was smiling and clapping at the description:

The second was when Clarence Clemons' wife said "Clarence was known as the big man for many reasons..." the audience started laughing with their dirty minds, and Glenn was just cracking up:

Those are just perfect Soda, thank you. He gets more handsome the older he gets.

Is that Cindi's shoulder that we see to his left?

Re: Glenn to induct Linda Ronstadt into HOF on April 10
I have no idea, but it certainly wouldn't be surprising if he brought his wife with him to the event.
Here's a snippet of "It's So Easy" courtesy of the HBO YouTube channel:

The full performances ("You're No Good" and "It's So Easy")! Not the induction speech but still!

Re: Glenn to induct Linda Ronstadt into HOF on April 10
Those are great. Thank you.
I'll put this here as my search was prompted by the above performance and it adds context. It's an interview with Waddy Watchel where he talks about the LA scene and the recordings he contributed to, including for Linda Ronstadt, Stevie Nicks, Don Henley and JD Souther. Now I have to track down the documentary.

Love the screencaps Soda!!
I couldn't help but think when I was watching how unfortunate that background photo choice was for Glenn.

I loved Glenn's reaction to Tom Morello's Kiss induction speech. Tom did such a great job inducting Kiss. He was funny, enthusiastic and nailed it from a fan's perspective. The part that cracked Glenn up was the best part of the whole speech.
And the whole place laughed at Clarence's wife's unintended double entendre. To which she said "you guys are so bad". Great moment, especially since it was so sad that Clarence wasn't there.
Love all the great screen shots!

Great screenshots, Soda! Thanks for doing those for us!
And that was a very touching interview that he did. Really shows his fondness and appreciation for her.
I was wondering, and I think we talked about this already but can't remember, was it planned for Glenn to stay on stage and sing with the girls? I see there are enough mikes, but it seemed they looked surprised that he was there?
ETA: the above photo....Glenn probably could care less by now what photo they showed of him. Water under the bridge, so to say!

I don't know whether he was originally going to sing with them, but in one of the interviews he mentions practising with them the day before.
-
Re: Glenn to induct Linda Ronstadt into HOF on April 10
Here's what I saw:
1) Glenn standing by the side of the stage with no mic set up
2) People suddenly scrambling to get him a mic
3) Emmylou and Bonnie looking surprised
4) The spotlight having to be widened to include him
5) No announcement of him coming on (he just slipped in quietly)
Yet, he said in an interview that he had joined them in rehearsal.
I speculate he hadn't planned on joining them, yet sang with them at rehearsal for fun. I think after doing that, he spontaneously decided to join them for the "real deal" as well. Thank goodness he did - it was EPIC!

Re: Glenn to induct Linda Ronstadt into HOF on April 10
That is well-deserved recognition for the artists! After a long career, it must be a validating moment, to have a tribute and be added to a long list of luminaries.

Re: Glenn to induct Linda Ronstadt into HOF on April 10
Yup, sure glad he did! You go Glenn!

you're probably right, and it was about Linda, not Glenn, so as long as she looked cute I guess that's all that mattered to whoever chose the photos.
That said, there HAS to be a photo of them all together where everyone's eyes are opened!

Re: Glenn to induct Linda Ronstadt into HOF on April 10
Soda, did you see Nirvana's performances? Did you see St. Vincent (Annie Clark) sing one of their songs? I saw her on Saturday Night Live and I'm obsessed with her. I was wondering if you saw her performance.
-
Re: Glenn to induct Linda Ronstadt into HOF on April 10
Yes, we stayed all the way until the end. Nirvana was big when I was a kid and I remember singing along to "Smells Like Teen Spirit" with my friends.
As for St. Vincent, I had never heard of her before that night. In fact, I only recognized Joan Jett and Lorde out of the female stand-ins for Kurt Cobain.
The woman who performed before her was Kim Gordon (from Sonic Youth). She seemed drunk and/or high. At one point, she actually flopped to the floor during her performance. Maybe it was supposed to be on purpose, and she tried to play it off like that by singing a bit on her knees before clumsily getting back to her feet... but from the reactions of the people onstage, they weren't expecting it! Then she started spinning around, swinging the microphone from its cord, trailing it on the ground.. after the song was over, she slurred something indiscernible into the microphone before staggering offstage.
I say all this because my friend and I were so busy talking about how awful Kim Gordon that we didn't really get a chance to appreciate Annie Clark, I'm afraid! However, when I saw the HBO broadcast, I liked her well enough. I wasn't blown away, but "Lithium" is pretty freaking hard to sing like Kurt Cobain because you have to be both intense and dispassionate... the song is from the point of view of a person who wants desperately to sound like he doesn't care and defiantly asserts everything is fine, when actually he is in complete despair. That's hard to pull off. Kurt could pull it off because he was living it. I hope for her sake she never has reason to be as convincing as he was!
-
Re: Glenn to induct Linda Ronstadt into HOF on April 10
Cool. Agree Kim Gordon's performance was painfully awkward. Yikes.
-
Re: Glenn to induct Linda Ronstadt into HOF on April 10
yeah I was kinda taken aback by Kim Gordon's performance as well...I even checked to see how old she was and was amazed to learn she's 61! and awkwardly flailing around like that on stage. That's not that old, but I would find it painful to flail around like that now at age 31. she definitely seemed a little out of it, but I was never a big Sonic Youth fan, so I'm not sure if she was always wacky like that.
then again Kurt was a bit wacky and would probably roll around on stage sometimes..and wore dresses sometimes..so maybe she was just trying to emulate Kurt's essence.
I did like the idea of all women covering for Kurt. and dug the other performances. love Joan Jett

Re: Glenn to induct Linda Ronstadt into HOF on April 10
Ok. I finally watch RRHOF thanks to HBO having a free weekend.
It was great. Glenn did a great job with his speech. I enjoyed performance.
Funny story. So I was at a camp this past week and I saw that RRHOF was coming on while I was up there, but it was coming on 3:15am. So I set my alarm so I can watch it, but I didn't know when he was coming on.
Well I remembered watching a little of Peter and the end of Kiss, but I didn't know she was between them. I would fall asleep and then wake up. Oh well. I finally saw it. I did see Glenn in the audience.

Re: Glenn to induct Linda Ronstadt into HOF on April 10
From and interview with Linda Ronstadt:
Quote:
SPAZ: Now, what were your thoughts on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?
LINDA: I have to give you a little clue here - I’ve never seen anything to do with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I didn’t even know it was a TV special until last year - somebody told me. So, you know, what do I know? I don’t play music for prizes. It’s not important to me. It’s always nice to be acknowledged and nobody likes to work in a vacuum. With that being said, it was awfully nice of Glenn Frey to put on his clothes and trudge down to Barclays Theater and make a little speech, which he sent to me, and I really appreciated. What a dear soul he is, and for him to say nice things about me is just very touching to me. Otherwise, who cares? (laughs) Well, I don’t know what to say. It’s not a thing I think about. Other people have thought about it 50 million times more than I ever have.

Re: Glenn to induct Linda Ronstadt into HOF on April 10
Thanks for that. Glad she showed a little appreciation for Glenn's speech, at least.
-
Re: Glenn to induct Linda Ronstadt into HOF on April 10
How sweet of Glenn to send her his speech. Very thoughtful!

Re: Glenn to induct Linda Ronstadt into HOF on April 10
2 years ago today, Glenn inducted Linda Ronstadt into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Re: Glenn to induct Linda Ronstadt into HOF on April 10
Yep - hard to believe that was two years ago. He looked like he was having a great time that evening - so full of energy and loving life.
I wonder if that was the last time most of those ladies ever saw Glenn? If so, what a fond memory for them to be left with.
-
Re: Glenn to induct Linda Ronstadt into HOF on April 10
I'll always treasure the memory.
-
Re: Glenn to induct Linda Ronstadt into HOF on April 10
I had not seen that before and loved every minute of it. Glenn did a great job as well as the lovely ladies singing Linda's fantastic songs.

Soda. I forgot you were there that night. I remembered how excited you were to be there and telling us who you saw in the audience.

Here's Glenn and Paul Stanley of Kiss. I don't think this picture was ever been posted here.
