Heard "Boys of Summer" in the store... only it was the wrong one!
I guess this falls under "Thought I was hearing the Eagles unexpectedly only to be disappointed" lol.

Well that was an interesting version. Other than the music is a little faster, its almost the same. I thought it was ok, but this version is not my cup of tea. I don't like this genre, but I watch the whole video.
I wonder if Don knows about this version. This came out in 2003 and their version was certified gold.
Hasn't Henley commented on their lack of use of the 'Deadhead' line in the past?
Found it, from an interview with the Montreal Gazette during Cass County promotion. The most Don Henley comments of all time to boot.

MG: Were you OK with the Ataris changing “Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac” to “Black Flag sticker” in their Boys of Summer cover?DH: Not really. No, not really. But I wasn’t upset enough to do anything about it. I just went, “OK. Fine.” And if you noticed, we haven’t heard much from the Ataris since then. You know that story, right, what happened to them?
MG: I can’t remember.
DH: I mean, they wrote some songs, very poorly — they were not very good songwriters — and they put out an album, and the only song that people would want to hear when they did a concert was Boys of Summer. And the lead singer apparently got so angry about it that he had a T-shirt made that said “Who the f— is Don Henley?”, or “Who the hell is Don Henley?” or something like that. And he would apparently wear that on stage (laughs) … and I thought that was really childish. But it was funny at the same time, because it was a clear message to them that they needed to work on their craftsmanship.
Wow! I had no idea about all that drama, or I had forgotten about it lol. I can't believe that guy wore a disrespectful shirt like that at his concerts. It's not Don's fault that his song is so much better than theirs. lol Plus it totally distracts from the Ataris' music.
(Although I notice that even their band name is a rip-off of another company's product!)
I gotta agree with you about this, Soda. If a band isn't talented enough to create their own high quality original music and, instead, resorts to covering a classic song by a legendary singer, then they should be prepared for some negative feedback.
Thank for tracking down the interview, tlr.
Watching Seinfeld. Elaine's date tells her to stop talking so he can hear "Desperado" on the car radio. 😊 Elaine likes "Witchy Woman. " (Witch-ay Woe-man!)
Oh my. How the heck you never heard of Don Henley. I guess they never heard of the Eagles. Heck Hotel California. They would had known who Don Henley is. Don't hate on Don. He had every right to be angry especially when you changed a well known line in a song.
Don has been out for almost 50 years and he's still big today. Like Don said. Where are they now? I've never heard of this band. Plus their music is not my cup of tea. They just did a very fast version of The Boys Of Summer.
I keep forgetting to post this...I heard The End of the Innocence at the grocery store a few weeks ago and New Kid in Town at a restaurant during a business lunch.
Had Long Road Out of Eden on the radio over here the other day. Never, ever heard that before.
Wow groupie - it doesn't get much better than those two songs. Lucky you!
And tlr - I was trying to think back and I don't think I ever heard LROOE on the radio either. Did they play the entire song or were parts of it cut?
In full thankfully, it's a relatively old-school rock station so there's no aversion to playing things in full - they do a lot of the longer genres (Southern, prog etc.) so there's plenty of long plays. Having a gander through their archived playlist, it seems they also did The Last Resort last week too. Quite refreshing given they usually fall into the trap a lot of stations do of just playing singles.
Wow - the whole thing? That's amazing!
I was at a gas station Saturday to get a icee and there was a car blasting Life In The Fast Lane. You don't hear that everyday. :hilarious:
Heard "On The Border" on Classic Vinyl XM/Sirius a couple days ago. I don't hear that one on the radio too often.
It a rarity around here as well, Austin. I'm one that likes the song a lot, so I love it when I do hear it played. On the other hand, shun, Life in the Fast Lane gets a pretty good amount of play from our stations, but, I sure don't mind that either.
True, Dreamer. But hearing it blasting from another vehicle other than yours is so cool.
I heard "The Heat is On" -Glenn at Duchess Restaurant this morning and yesterday I heard "All Night Long"--Joe on 101.5....I cranked that up! Around here they only play RMW and LBG so it was great hearing it!! It drives me nuts that song selections are.so limited.....
This afternoon I was at the grocery store buying corn husks to make tamales. In between all the Christmas & holiday music, what to my wondering ears do I hear??? "HOW LONG" !!!!! Of course, I sang along.
Today at work, I heard "The Long Run", "All She Wants to do is Dance", AND "Lyin' Eyes"! They can keep that up!
Shopping in our natural food store today, Lyin' Eyes came on. <3
Love it when we hear these songs - but FF - that daily triple is really special. And it's funny the both of you heard Lyin' Eyes the same day.
Things happened at work this week that reminded me I need to be kicking in this third career of mine. Today was the monthly meeting of a (significant) local writers group. This time it was a talk/q&a with 4 local romance writers. These meetings are held in a big book store. There is a pa system that plays music, real music, but the speaker is far from the meeting area, and I would only occasionally catch snippets of music...
Until (toward the end of the meeting during the q&a), I hear Glenn singing "Peaceful, Easy Feeling." For those four minutes, I can't tell you what they were talking about. I tried to pay attention, honest I did. (And I was taking notes for me and two other people!) Seriously, I can't tell you any other song that was played all afternoon. But my brain zeroed in on that one.
Well CA - your mind zeroed in on that song must mean that you have exceptional musical taste. Congrats!
I heard All She Wants to do is Dance this morning in the drivers license office! <<dancing icon>>
Well Brooke - I hope you didn't break out in a dance!
And thanks for that link, Edward. That is a cool page. The only problem is after I listened to a couple of songs, it wants me to log in and I don't have (or want) an Instagram account.
I was just watching an old repeat of "Friends"..."The One with Two Parts"
The song at the end (Ross's monkey , Marcel, was in the hospital with everyone gathered around him) , was a short clip of "New York Minute".
I was a cruise 2 weeks ago for my birthday. That Friday. I walked to the main part of the ship for music trivia party, they are playing Don's and some of the Eagles music before they turned it off. I was so shocked. They played about over 5 songs. I remembered them playing Sunset Grill, The Heart Of The Matter, The End Of The Innocence, New York Minute and I think the Long Run.
This morning, I was waiting in the car while my son was at a job interview and heard the live acoustic version of "Hotel California" on one of our local L.A. radio stations. I rarely hear that version. I LOVE the acoustic guitar solo. :guitar::rockguitar:
Yep MJ - I agree it is rare to hear this version on the radio, so that is still pretty cool. TBH, I don't recall ever hearing it, but, then again, I hardly ever listen to the radio anymore.
So my daughter's school had a pasta fundraiser dinner, and she said they played "Hotel California", "Tequila Sunrise" and "Lyin Eyes". She told the person in charge of music, "Rockin to the Eagles tonight I see.". The DJ said " most kids your age Don't know who they are. I'm surprised. " my daughter replied "you don't know my mom." 😊🎸🎶
Well KW - All I can say is that it looks like you raised her right!
Aww thanks Nkit and Dreamer 😃. She says she likes them but I play them too much (is that even possible??) She loves classic rock though especially The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac and big time Stevie Nicks
fan.
I heard The Heat is On in the drugstore today. I rarely hear Glenn's solo songs while out - it put a smile on my face!
