Bald Eagles???? :unimpressed:
You know, WF mentioned in another thread that Already Gone was the only beakup song he could think of that was positive and uplifting. Then I mentioned I'm Alive by JB. I'm sensing we need to start a new thread or two...Happy Love Songs? Happy Breakup Songs? Hey, it'll pass the time!
The Eagles' Real Greatest Hits, 1971-1975

News alert about the weekend concerts in Taiwan.
Mostly the Eagles are an overrated band. But maybe the Real Greatest Hits would vindicate the band. I only heard their greatest hits and with the exception of
"Witchy Woman" (which Is a classic), the rest of the songs are still pretty lame. The LP "Hotel California" is alright.
And this 'comment' is one of the 'lamest' I have ever read. The guy admits he's only ever heard the GH songs & the HC album (what rock has he been living under) and then has the nerve to say they are 'overrated'. If he hasn't heard the songs selected by the writer how would he know?
The songs the writer nominates for a 'real GH' are
Nightingale
Earlybird
Out Of Control
Outlaw Man
Certain Kind Of Fool
Is It True
Good Day In Hell
James Dean (live in Houston)
Visions
After The Thrill Is Gone
Visions a 'stellar radio single'? I don't think so. In fact the only songs I agree with here are OOC, OM, CKOF & GDIH (I like James Dean but I wouldn't include it). In this list Henley is glaringly absent apart from Nightingale & his parts on GDIH/ATTIG.
I agree with most of what you said, FP! I have a few comments of my own to add. I don't usually react so strongly, but I guess I'm just in one of those moods tonight.
If I remember correctly, the Eagles themselves were strongly opposed to the record company releasing Their Greatest.Quote:
Looking at the first Greatest Hits' track listing, you see the shrewdness of the band, a particular trait that would only add fuel to the fire for the hate game. The band and their handlers released a stopgap collection that could almost make buying their previous four studio albums an unneeded luxury.
Only 11 million! Hardly worth the trouble to release it!Quote:
Eagles Greatest Hits, Vol. 2 would only sell 11 million copies
And in reply to this comment:

Only Witchy Woman a classic? I'd like to know his criteria for calling a song a classic. Every song on the album is a classic! The guys are still selling albums & are selling out the venues that they play after all these years! If that many people flock to see them & still play their music, how can he say they are overrated? That many people can't be that wrong for that long! :-x
Sorry for going on so. I'm so tired of people putting the guys down. They have brought so much to so many through their music.
That's the end of my rant for tonight. I feel better now!
