Just went and listened to the original version - wow, there's no comparison with regard to emotional intensity. (Admittedly, I've never found Brian Wilson's voice compelling beyond the Beach Boys harmonies).Quote:

I don't know about anyone else, but I find that a live performance often adds 'something' that you don't get in a studio version. I always found Tim's 'Ella Jean' a bit insipid (for want of a better word) on Expando, but live in London it sounded completely different. Admittedly it's still not my favourite song from Expando, but I do like it better. :)Quote:

The live element can definitely add to it, that's for sure. I didn't appreciate "Long Road Out of Eden" (the song) until I saw it live.
The first time I heard "Long Road Out of Eden" was live. It was utterly stunning, both my husband and I were gobsmacked. IDWTHA though sounded a bit insipid live.Quote:
