Eagles Song Survivor

In my other fandom, Fleetwood Mac, we sometimes played a version of Survivor where you vote album songs "off the island" until you're left with one. For instance, we'd list all of the songs on the Eagles LP, and we'd hold rounds where we all vote for which song we think is the weakest until we get down to the last one standing. We could do it for each album eventually if it goes over well, but we'll just start with one (I don't care which one - it can be Hotel California or whatever). The game lasts for several days, one round each day. It can be a lot of fun, and sometimes even heated if people see their favorites getting voted off, but it only works if people are interested in partcipating. So, if we played the game, would you participate?

I have never done anything like this, and I'd love to. I'd also like to do it with Glenn's & Don's albums, or one of each, even.

I would participate but I'm not sure if I understand your description of that game. Well, I will see when the game starts.

I'll try to explain it more clearly. Have you ever watched the reality show contest Survivor? It is similiar to that in concept. We would start out with a list of songs on an album. For my example I will use the Eagles LP.

Songs for Eagles LP Survivor, Round One:
Take It Easy
Witchy Woman
Chug All Night
Most of Us Are Sad
Nightingale
Train Leaves Here This Morning
Take the Devil
Earlybird
Peaceful Easy Feeling
Tryin'
Get You in the Mood (B-sides count, too)

Then, for the first round, each participant would vote for the song they like least. Whichever song gets the most votes is eliminated. For instance, if Get You in the Mood is eliminated, the next round would look like this:

Songs for Eagles LP Survivor, Round Two:
Take It Easy
Witchy Woman
Chug All Night
Most of Us Are Sad
Nightingale
Train Leaves Here This Morning
Take the Devil
Earlybird
Peaceful Easy Feeling
Tryin'

We would continue until there is only one song left. That song wins. There is a more complex version of the game where there are immunity questions, but if everyone wants to start slow, we can leave that off for now and just do it this way. It can be fun if people are passionate about what goes and what stays. You can offer arguments as to why a song needs to go or stay. That can get a bit controversial. ;)

No, I haven't seen Survivor since it's obviously not a German show. :wink: I can't remember of a similar show in the German TV.

On another happy note, my mother is very in love with my father (and vice-versa). While most of the wives left for their native homes after the incident (America, Britain, etc.), Mom refused to leave and stayed as close as possible. They first went there in 1990. Even when I was a teen, she stayed with Dad overseas while my sisters and I lived alone after that initial six-month period (my older sister was 18 at the time so my younger sister and I were OK by ourselves and looked after by her). I hope one day I can have a marriage as good as theirs.

Yes, it is. That is why I am so impressed that the Freys seemed to be happily married. As everybody knows, that is extremely rare for a rock star.

That's so sweet to hear about your parents, Nancy. Mine are the same. My dad was offered a highly paid job with Shell just after they were married, but it would have meant working in Venezuela, and he turned it down and became a poorly paid schoolteacher instead.

I have another question about the rules - presumably once you've voted for a song you can't vote for it again - I voted for Teenage Jail first in the TLR game, so presumably in the next round if the song is still there I have to vote for another song? (Obviously if it's eliminated there is no problem).

You can vote for whatever song is eligible, regardless of whether or not you've voted for it before. You can vote for Teenage Jail every round until it's gone, if you want. :)

That is very interesting about your parents, Nancy. What a great cultural experience for all for you. My parents shared the same kind of love--they were married 52 years when my father died.

My cousin married a man who works for a subsidiary of AT&T as a communications specialist, and they have transferred them all over the world--they started in Washington DC, then Singapore, Shanghai, Bejiing, and now it might be India. She is the one who got me the bootleg of HFO and Farewell I on the same DVD, with Chinese subtitles, for Christmas last year. I think she paid about $2 for it. I asked her to keep her eye out for other Eagles bootlegs during her travels. :wink:

My time in Saudi Arabia was a great cultural experience, and it allowed me to travel all over the world since my parents lived overseas. But in the end, there's no place like home!

I was thinking that in honor of our board name that the album for our next Eagles Survivor game should be On the Border. Hopefully, we will get to all of them eventually, but I think On the Border will be an interesting one. What do you all think?

I'm fine with that, although I thought we were going to do Eagles/Glenn/Don (at least) in rotation. Perhaps it would be easiest to do all the Eagles albums first and as OTB is my second favourite, the results should be interesting.
