I have lots of students writing dissertations right now. Advice I give to them when they're in this stage is as follows:
....
Thanks for the help AT, at the stage now where I'm just re-reading my discussion of findings to make sure I've passed comment on as broad an array of topics (and existing literature) as possible, the last thing I will do after this is sort out all of the layout, section numbering etc before a final proofread.

Re: What's Happening In Your Life?
RCF - Congratulations ! Wow - UC Berkley ! Just graduating from there alone should open doors for a bright future. Will you go there ?
TLR - Good luck on your dissertation. I only have a BA so I have no advise other than to say all this work will pay off in the future.
FP - Best wishes and prayers for continued healing and a full recovery.
Brooke - How is hubby doing. Reason I am asking is I have a partially torn rotor cuff in my right shoulder and may need surgery down the road. Does your husband feel it was worth it? Hope by now he is feeling much better and on the road to a full recovery.
A nephew of mine was married a couple of weeks ago and two of my sisters who live out of state(Ill.) and my BIL, niece and nephew also flew in. It was so nice to see everyone. Because they are all grown now and everyone is busy with work, life, etc, we do not get to see each other as often as in the past. I do have to say I do not know how all those kids wore those six inch heels. My feet hurt for days and my shoes only had a two inch heel !

Re: What's Happening In Your Life?
Thanks, LuvTim, thelastresort, and New Kid in Town!
Right now, I'm debating between UC Irvine business - accounting or UC Berkeley - Econ. If I wanted to do the accounting route to a CPA, it would take me approximately the same amount of time to get enough college credits to be licensed. UCI may take 1-2 years of CC coursework to get it done cheaply, but w/ UCB, I would probably do a 1-year Master's in Accounting at my local CSU, SJSU.
I've got to make some calls to Berkeley on whether I should go for a math or a comp sci minor, since Econ isn't that great without quantitative skills. If I can take accounting classes from the business school, then that would be very helpful. I doubt that, since I would probably be locked out of it. Business majors get first priority on that.

Thank you for asking, he is doing much better, finally! I hope you don't have to have surgery! It has been 8 weeks tomorrow and he is still doing therapy at home, which the Dr. told him to do. The arm is weak and has lost muscle tone and that is hard for him to accept. He is a carpenter and is wanting to do some work, but a bit scared that he will accidently hurt it, like accidently beginning to fall and unthinkingly grabbing something with that arm. I guess he'll just have to try it and see how it goes. He says if he had known how bad it was going to be he wouldn't have had the operation. But, the doctor said he would have eventually lost use of his arm because of the tear in the muscle and the ligament just hanging on. So, who knows?! I think in a couple months he will be glad he did it. He's just not one to sit around and do nothing and that has gotten quite old for him.
And best of luck with your choice in colleges! I'm sure you will figure it all out!

Re: What's Happening In Your Life?
I'm almost done with spring semester for college. I got one final and a presentation done and my next is in a few days. Am a bit annoyed as my summer class I signed up more than likely will be cancelled as they have a low enrollment policy. :( They have to have at least 7 and we only have 6. It would put my plan a bit behind schedule but I've had this happen before. However, the plus side of having summer off would be I can finally work on editing my 6th novel so we'll see what happens.

I'm so sorry, Soda. I'm surprised I haven't heard about that down here. That would had been all over the news even if nothing happened.
Be safe. I'm glad they got him and you and other people are safe.

You guys live in the same state and it didn't make any local news? That certainly is surprising.
As long as everyone is safe.

Exactly what is the torn rotor cuff please NKIT? Reason I am asking is that I have been experiencing shoulder pain over the last while. It is barely noticable a lot of the time, BUT, when I turn it or stretch my arm back (like say to scratch ny back or do up a zipper) I get bad pain and impaired movement. I have googled it and it sounds like Shoulder Impingement Syndrome - have you heard of this? I'm on holidays from early next month until September so I may seek medical help then if it doesnt improve

Ga, it can mean lots of different things and it will take an MRI to actually find out exactly what is wrong. Even with that, there can be more wrong than is seen, as was my husband's case. His was really bad and was living with constant pain and taking too much high powered drugs just to get by day to day. He finally had the MRI, which is pretty expensive if insurance doesn't cover it. His did pretty well. He had a torn muscle and ligament that was just holding on. There was also a large bone spur that had grown through and torn the muscle that had to be removed (sawed off). He also had a piece of bone that was floating around in there and it had to be taken out. I think he will be glad he had it fixed sooner or later. Recovery varies according to each individual. We have been doing his physical therapy every day since and he's so much better!
His regular doctor didn't think he needed an MRI either! Of course, he was feeding him the drugs and enjoying his income off that too!
I also had a shoulder injury several years ago when I fell coming down our stairs. I didn't go to the doctor for a couple weeks, but it didn't get any better and I finally did. I had the frozen shoulder-couldn't lift it very much at all. I had an MRI and there was a small tear but the doctor told me I could try physical therapy first. I did and it worked. I have a tinge of pain once in a while, but nothing that has worried me.
I hope you don't need surgery!
-
Re: What's Happening In Your Life?
Thanks for the advice Brooke, its not majorly sore except when I do certain moves with it. The MRI sounds like a good idea (I'd get it free here anyway). I think I can manage till the Summer holidays but I will try to do something then as if it does need treatment I will have time for it to recover too. Hope your hubbys shoulder issue is ok now.

Re: What's Happening In Your Life?
Glennsallnighter - I am sorry I did not see your post to respond sooner. My doctor did not order an MRI until after I had been in PT for three months and was not getting much better. That was when they found out I had the partially torn rotor cuff and and a small amount of torn cartg.
My shoulder and upper arm hurt like heck and I couldn't lift my right arm completely high above my head or behind my back. I was in PT for 6 months and had a cortisone shot. It has been bothering me again off and on so I am considering going back for a second shot.
Sounds like Brooke answered you regarding the frozen shoulder. I have a friend who had it so I know it is very painful. Perhaps you should ask your doctor for the MRI. Good Luck.

Re: What's Happening In Your Life?
Hi everybody, it's been awhile since I've posted on this site. What originally started as a short break from social media/the internet to focus on a new semester of college turned into a semester-long hiatus from most of my usual websites. I've been focused on college only for the past few months. As a result of this, I've maintained my 4.0 GPA, made the Dean's list, and joined my school's honors program. I also branched out socially as well; I joined several clubs (history, Model UN, book club, political science club, CAB, among others). I should be going to a few conferences with the Model UN(Atlanta, Ga and Ottawa, Canada) and political science clubs(Savannah, Ga).
I also managed to be elected to the position of junior representative for the student government for the upcoming 2017-2018 school year. After next year, my school will cease to exist because of a merger, so to be on the last student government is an honor to me because we(the SGA) will be the voice of Bainbridge State's student body as the merger moves forward.
I also just returned to the states from my two week study abroad trip to Scotland. I can't put into words how much I loved and enjoyed that trip. It was the experience of a lifetime, for sure. Seven of my Bainbridge State classmates, including my best friend, were also on the trip (20 students in all). The professor in charge of the whole thing was one of my two favorites from my school.
This is a photo of all of us BSC students with our professor in front of Linlithgow Castle.
http://i1283.photobucket.com/albums/...psv8ocaqse.jpg
We stayed at a hostel in Edinburgh, but went on several day trip to places like St. Andrews, Linlithgow, Sterling, and Tweedbank. Plus a 2 day/1 night trip through the highlands.(We spent the night in Oban). The other days were spent exploring place Edinburgh like Edinburgh Castle, The Royal Mile, Holyrood Palace, St. Giles Cathedral, The National Museum of Scotland, The Writers' Museum, Arthur's Seat, Greyfrairs' Kirkyard, Calton Hill, Grassmarket, and the Surgeon's Museum. We also went to a brand new play that focuses on the relationship between Mary, Queen of Scots and John Knox called Glory on Earth,, on a ghost tour, a literary pub tour, and we danced to traditional Scottish music at a local dance hall. The nights were spent exploring Edinburgh's thriving night life scene.:censored::drunk::soda:(picture something stronger than soda)
Unfortunately I injured my left knee and ankle when I tripped down some steps at St. Andrews' Cathedral, and I also caught a cold. Despite these setbacks, though, I honestly had the time of my life in Scotand. I hope to go back in the near future!
These two photos of my best friend and I were taken in the courtyard of Holyrood Palace and in the lobby of the Lyceum Theatre where we saw Glory on Earth.

I have many more photos, but I'll post a few of them (mainly scenery ones) in the photo thread.
Now that summer has rolled around, I have abundant free time until August, so I hope to be able to post on here regularly. I know that alot has happened in the Eagles world since January, and I look forward to once again discussing and conversing about one of my favorite bands. I hope that everyone is doing well. :)

Re: What's Happening In Your Life?
Being treated for vertigo - benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, to be specific. It sucks! Has anyone here had it? It started out of the blue a week ago. Hopefully it will resolve quickly.
Thanks for listening/reading. I just had to bitch a wee bit!
-
Re: What's Happening In Your Life?
Never had it, but it sounds ghastly. I hope it gets sorted soon. Yet another age-related problem that I knew nothing about!
-
Re: What's Happening In Your Life?
NMB - My Mom had it and was so sick from it. The meds they gave her did not help much but that was years ago. Hopefully the meds will kick in for you and you start feeling better soon.
-
Re: What's Happening In Your Life?
Last day of classes for me!
-
Re: What's Happening In Your Life?
So sorry about that NMB. A lot in my family have it including my Granny, my Mom, a few of my aunts, one of my uncles, and now my Dad's starting to wonder if he's getting it as he had some sort of episode that scared all of us as we thought he was having a stroke or heart attack but it turned out it was this mixed with some stomach issues. The ones my Mom's side of the family has is chronic so it will just come and go.
-
Re: What's Happening In Your Life?
Bah! That is awful that they have it recur. I'm going to tell the vertigo very firmly to go away and never return. :machinegun:
-
Re: What's Happening In Your Life?
Sorry to hear that, NMB. My coworker has it and has had an episode at work that was very unsettling. Prayers for you.

I'm sorry to hear about this NMB. I've never heard of it--it sounds like one gets dizzy after being in the same position for a period of time, like lying in bed all night. Take care!
-
Re: What's Happening In Your Life?
Aww, thank you guys. Yeah, what brings it on is the position of your head. If I lay flat, or even look up, the world starts spinning.

BE VERY FIRM with it, and take NO BACK TALK!! I'm sure this plan will work.
But just in case, my sister-in-law's mother has this, and -you'll never guess- she literally throws herself down onto the bed, or floor, and feels better. I'm not recommending this, you could hurt yourself, but I'm just acknowledging how strange this whole condition can be for people!
Good luck, NMB, you know I wish you well.
-
Re: What's Happening In Your Life?
Thank you, dear Luvy. I've thrown myself on the (soft) bed, otherwise just grab something and hold on tight.
-
Re: What's Happening In Your Life?
NMB - I hope this post finds you feeling a little better and on the road to recovery.

Re: What's Happening In Your Life?
Many thanks, New Kid. When I see your screen name, I immediately hear those sweet harmonies, "ooooh-hooo, everybody's talkin' bout the new kid in town..."

Re: What's Happening In Your Life?
Hi NMB, I don't know anything at all about this ailment so I'm afraid I can't be much help other than to let you know I'm rooting for you and hoping you are feeling better very soon!
