    Default Hampton, VA 1-12-09

Well - I've only got a minute to post right now, but I wanted to come in and let everyone know that even though the concert was awesome last night, there haven't been any changes made to the show. I had told Soda that I would call her from the show if they had made any changes to anything, but nothing has changed. Of course, I'll be back with more details later.

I know y'all will agree...I refuse to believe the Viagra comment, musical or not! And it's nice to hear that someone other than a Borderer feels their big bucks was well spent!

Sorry for the delay in getting this review posted, but real life got in my way yesterday. As I said before, at Monday night’s show in Hampton, the band was full of it’s usual awesomeness. They all sounded and looked great. The acoustics in that venue are wonderful and the guys voices were in fine form – perhaps benefiting from the holiday break. I wasn’t really expecting any changes to the show, and there weren’t any. I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that if they are going to make any changes at all, then at the earliest, we may see them is when they begin the European tour in late spring. But, they may not make any changes until after they play the U.S. west coast.

In any event, there were some memorable moments to report. Joe, of course, was sporting a new ring on his left hand. Also, I noticed that for the only time that I have ever seen a show either live or on tape, Joe did not say “How Ya Doin’?” I honestly think he just simply forgot to say it. He did wish everyone a Happy New Year though. I was a little disappointed during Somebody because I made a point to watch Don after the way he rocked it D.C. He wasn’t nearly as “into” it Monday night as he was that night in D.C. However, he made it up at end of the show. When they were waving their goodbyes, Don was giving us the “victory” or “V” sign, and Tim walked over towards him. Don stuck his hand behind Tim’s head to make it look like bunny rabbit ears (or devil horns). He had an adorable grin on his face, as Tim was totally oblivious to what he was doing. To my surprise, it was Don rather than Tim that was the last to leave the stage. Again, I was a little disappointed that Tim didn’t tell the Paul Carrack story at the beginning of Love Will Keep Us Alive like he did in D.C. The big Glenn moment came during the intros – I got two lines of “My Girl” – of course, I was in heaven as I screamed for more. My only regret is that this occurred during the time that I was sitting in the section that was farther away from the stage.

As I mentioned in my first post in this thread, I bought seats in two different sections because there were five of us that were going to the show. The two “best” seats were 6th row center, seats 3 & 4. Because there was a very small amount of space between the stage and the front row, our seats were very close to the stage, and we had a wonderful view the entire night, even us short people. The other seats we had were actually pretty good as well, but, obviously, the view was much better from the 6th row. I had only planned on going down to the “best” seats at the end of the show. Eaglette was “fixed” in one of the “best” seats, and I do mean fixed. It was priceless seeing the expression on her face when we first went in the auditorium and she realized how close she was to the stage. She proclaimed that she would not be moving the whole night, and she wasn’t kidding even though I told her that no one could ‘steal’ her seat. The plan was that her mom (my niece) was going to sit with her the 1st set, and her dad (Screamin' Eagle) the 2nd set until I came down after Funk 49. However, about halfway through the 1st set, my niece came up to our other seats and said that Eaglette wanted me to come down and sit with her. I guess she thought her mom was not worthy. So I went down and sat with her. At one point, I think Glenn recognized me and smiled at me. She actually saw it before I did. I told her that I wasn’t positive that it was me that he was smiling at, but of course, she was more than positive that it was. Since she was the only young person that I spotted anywhere around us, she was getting attention from the audience and the band (and loving every minute of it). The people sitting around us were in awe of how “knowledgeable” she was.

Now, Eaglette had bought 4 roses and written a note to each of the band members, which we attached to the roses. During the break for the encore, she and I walked around to the front of the stage. I knew we weren't going to get up to the stage because as I said before, there was just a very small space between the stage and seats. I asked a security guard if he would take them up to the stage for us. He said they weren’t allowed to put anything on the stage. I tried to plead with him a bit, but could see it wasn’t working. He told me to take them to the “production office” and the band would get them. I wasn’t quite buying that, but figured I’d give it a shot. He pointed me to where the office was. We walked around and there was another guard stationed at the door. He said we couldn’t get in without a pass. I asked him if he would just take them, but he wouldn’t. By that time, I heard the crowd yelling, and knew the band had come back on stage. We went back to the auditorium, and I told the first security guard that the guy wouldn't take them. He softened a bit, he said that they were under strict orders not to put anything on stage, but he would take them to the production office for me. I asked him if the orders were from the band or the venue, but he didn’t answer. Anyway, he left and walked around, but, sadly, I have a sneaky feeling that Glenn, Don, Joe, or Timothy never saw Eaglette’s roses or notes. I only hope that this was the venue and not the band. We’ll have to be on the lookout to see if this continues at other venues. The security at the venue was pretty rigid. Before the show started, they were coming up and down the front aisles saying that no one was permitted to stand at any point during the show. Of course, that was laughable – there was no way that they could keep everyone from standing during the last part of the show.

BTW - Screamin' Eagle took a lot of pics. We'll try to get them posted soon if they turn out.

I may think of some other stuff that I left out, but I wanted to go ahead and get something posted. Even though Eaglette didn't get to give them her roses and notes, the show did not disappoint. I guess I'll have to savor it because it will probably be the last show I see for a long while.

Thanks for the review. Glad you, Eaglette and the gang had a great time! Too bad about the roses. Who knows, maybe they did get them.

Thanks for your review, Dreamer. Too bad for Eaglette I don't understand why you couldn't put the roses on the stage, these were just roses And I wonder if the direction not to stand up came from the band or from the venue. When they were here the last time we could stand up and dance whenever we want to. I never saw people just sitting at any concert here in Germany but at a classic concert perhaps. Let's see how it goes this year here.
