Default Eagles Guitars (and a whole lotta info!)

I got this idea recently to do a thread on this. I will edit and update it as I need to.

Rather than sourcing pics of each of the guys with their guitars - I'm going to post pictures of what each model looks like (colors may be different) and who used each one on what song, both studio and live.

This is going to take a LONG time, so bare with me as I revise it over time.

Also, for all other non-Eagles related guitar info and questions - please go to this thread: https://eaglesonlinecentral.com/foru...d.php?p=277614

    Song Specific Guitars (recordings)

Take It Easy: Bernie Leadon used a Fender Telecaster with a B Bender unit for the electric parts and lead solo on the track. The amp is unknown but it sounds like a Blackface or Silverface Fender amp. Glenn Frey's guitar was probably a Martin acoustic, he used one before switching to Takamine.

Peaceful Easy Feeling: Same gear as Take It Easy.

Already Gone: Glenn Frey used his classic "Old Black" Gibson Les Paul Jr into a Fender Blackface Deluxe (nonreverb model) with a Vox silver bell speaker. Don Felder has said that for his parts he used the same gear, so I assume he used Glenn's rig. Bernie Leadon played a Telecaster into a Fender amp.

One Of These Nights: Don Felder used a 1959 Sunburst Gibson Les Paul Standard into a Fender Narrow Panel Tweed Deluxe amp from the 1950s. Not sure on the gear used by Glenn Frey or Bernie Leadon but it's a safe bet Leadon used a Tele and Glenn used his Old Black with Fender amps.

Hotel California: Don Felder played a Martin 12 string acoustic with a soundhole pickup for the intro bits with an EMT echo unit and leslie rotating speaker. For the electric solo he used a 1959 Sunburst Gibson Les Paul Standard (Burst) and a 50s Fender Narrow Panel 5E3 Tweed Deluxe amp (same as One Of These Nights) with echo and chorus units. Joe Walsh used a Fender Telecaster and a Tweed Deluxe for his solo with a MXR Phase 90 pedal for a swirling effect. Glenn Frey used a Martin 12 String for his parts.

Life In The Fast Lane: Joe Walsh used a 1950s Fender Stratocaster into a Fender amp for his parts on LITFL. Don Felder used his 59 Gibson Les Paul. Glenn Frey would have used his Junior, his main guitar at the time for electric.

Victim Of Love: Don Felder said he used his Fender Stratocaster into a Fender Narrow Panel 5F1 Tweed Champ from the 50s for the track. Joe Walsh likely used a Les Paul for his slide into a Fender amp of some sort.

The Long Run: Both Joe Walsh and Don Felder in the music video for this track used Sunburst Les Pauls. I know Joe Walsh has said he used a Roland Cube amp for the track and in the video there are lots of Fender amps. Glenn Frey can be seen playing a Fender Tele into a Fender Tweed amp and there are other Fender amps behind Don. Other than that, no specific details.

    Acoustic Guitars Live (HOTE tour)

    Glenn:

Glenn uses his signature Takamine EF360GF acoustic primarily on all acoustic songs except for "Take It Easy" and "Hotel California". Glenn uses a Takamine 12-string acoustic on "Take It Easy" and "Hotel California".

    Don Henley:

Don uses a Takamine acoustic for everything he plays acoustic.

    Joe:

Joe uses both Takamine and Gibson acoustic guitars. He uses a Gibson dark sunburst 12-String on songs like "Lyin' Eyes" and "Take It To The Limit".

    Steuart:

Steuart uses a Takamine acoustic guitar.

    Bernie:

Bernie uses a Martin Dreadnought acoustic guitar.

    Don Felder (HFO and solo):

Don used Takamine acoustic guitars in the HFO period. Now he uses Taylor acoustic guitars.

    Electric Guitars Live (HOTE tour)

    Glenn:

Glenn uses a myriad of guitars such as a Fender Telecaster (on songs like "The Long Run"), a Gibson Les Paul Junior (on songs like "Already Gone" and "Life In The Fast Lane"), and a Sunburst Gibson Les Paul Standard (on songs like "One Of These Nights"). He also uses an Eagles signature Duesenberg occasionally. He rarely can be seen also playing a red Gibson Firebird and black Moderne. Pics for each of these models will be at the bottom of the page as they all use these kinds of guitars.

    Don Henley:

Don Henley exclusively plays a Fender Telecaster Deluxe anytime he's playing electric guitar. He plays through a Line 6 amplifier.

    Joe:

Joe uses LOTS of different kinds of guitars! Too hard to name each guitar for each song for him but he uses Fender Telecasters, Fender Stratocasters, Gibson Les Pauls, Duesenbergs, Music Man's, Carvin's, PRS's, and many more. He also recently started using a Gibson Explorer for "Witchy Woman". He changes them often too! Joe has a new guitar out with Duesenberg, similar to the Eagles signature guitar.

    Steuart:

Steuart is a diehard Ernie Ball Music Man player. He uses everything from Axis models to Silhouette models. The guitar he uses on Hotel California is a custom designed double necked Silhouette especially for him with opposite neck arrangement to a Gibson EDS-1275 like Don Felder played. He has a white one and a black one. He also has a 60s Gibson SG Junior, PRS, Gibson ES-335, and a 60s Fender Stratocaster in his arsenal.

    Bernie:

Bernie uses a Black B-Bender Fender Custom Telecaster and a Red Gibson Les Paul. He uses the Tele on almost everything except Witchy Woman, which is a Les Paul.

    Don Felder (solo):

Don uses almost exclusively Gibson Les Paul Standards and Fender Stratocasters. He uses a Les Paul on songs like "One Of These Nights", "Already Gone", "Life In The Fast Lane", etc. He uses a Strat on songs like "Take It Easy", "New Kid In Town", "Victim Of Love", etc. Note that in his solo show he now uses a Strat on "Life In The Fast Lane" as he plays Joe's parts in his solo show and Joe uses a Strat on that song. He also has a Zemaitis guitar for slide nowadays for songs like "The Long Run" and "Victim Of Love". He of course has a Gibson EDS-1275 he uses and always used live for "Hotel California" with a capo on the 7th fret of the 12-string neck. He also used a Gibson ES-335 for the solo live on "I Can't Tell You Why".

    Electric Guitars Live (70s)

    Glenn:

Glenn mostly used his Gibson Les Paul Junior. He occasionally used Telecasters, Stratocasters, SG's, Sunburst Les Pauls, and SG Junior in the 70s as well. He also used a Gibson ES-330 and ES-335.

    Joe:

Joe mostly used Fender Telecasters, Stratocasters, and Les Pauls live. He can also sometimes be seen with a sunburst Gibson EDS-1275 double neck.

    Don Felder:

Don mostly used Stratocasters and Telecasters and Les Pauls. He used his '59 Les Paul live in the 70s as well as other Les Pauls, as well as a sunburst Strat and blonde finish Tele. He used the Gibson EDS-1275 for "Hotel California" that was modified with two jacks for the 12-string neck to go to a leslie rotating speaker and clean amp and the 6-string neck to go to his pedalboard and a dirtier set amp instead of a single output jack like most EDS-1275's. He uses a capo on the 12-string neck on the 7th fret.

    Bernie:

Bernie mostly used Telecasters. He used a Les Paul on "Witchy Woman", otherwise it was all Teles, usually outfitted with B-Benders. He used a Dave Evans Pull String Guitar designed in the shape of a Telecaster in a lot of 70s concerts.

    Acoustic Guitars Live (70s)

    Glenn:

Glenn used Martin acoustic guitars in the early years of the Eagles, then transitioned to Takamine.

    Electric Guitars Studio (recordings)

    Glenn:

Glenn used a Gibson Les Paul Junior for most of his electric studio work named "Old Black", which is a 50s model he got from Jackson Browne that was modified for a 2nd pickup (soapbar P90) in the neck position and switch and new tuners. It originally had one dogear P90 pickup in the bridge. It was not a Les Paul Special as some state, which came with two soapbar P90 pickups. He used it on songs such as "Already Gone", "James Dean", "Witchy Woman", etc. He also used Fender Telecasters in the studio, on songs like "The Long Run". He also used a Gibson ES-330 for the solo on "I Can't Tell You Why".

    Joe:

Joe used mostly Les Pauls, Stratocasters, and Telecasters in the studio. He used a Strat on songs like "Life In The Fast Lane". He used a Tele on songs like "Hotel California". He used a Les Paul on songs like "In The City", "The Long Run", "Those Shoes", and "Heartache Tonight".

    Don Felder:

Don used mostly Les Pauls and Stratocasters with the occasional Telecaster. He used a Strat on songs like "New Kid In Town" and "Victim Of Love". He used a Les Paul on songs like "Hotel California", "One Of These Nights", "Life In The Fast Lane", and "Those Shoes". He used a Tele on "Lyin' Eyes".

    Bernie:

Bernie used a Fender Telecaster for almost all of his work with the Eagles. He used a Gibson Les Paul for "Witchy Woman".

    Other Misc Gear

    Glenn:

Glenn has always used a mid 60s Fender Blackface Non-Reverb model Deluxe amp for everything from the 70s to now. He uses very few pedals, all made from BOSS.

    Joe:

Joe used mostly Fender amps in the 70s in the studio and live - Blackface and Tweeds of various models. He used Marshalls in his solo projects but most everything in the Eagles was Fender amps. He, like Don Felder, used a Fender Tweed Deluxe on "Hotel California". He used a MXR Phase 90 pedal and echo unit on that song as well. In the 70s he used very few pedals but nowadays he uses a pedalboard with BOSS pedals, an RMC Wah, and a few other odds and ends. Nowadays for amps Joe uses a Vox AC15.

    Don Felder:

Don is exclusively a Fender amp guy from the 70s to present. He used a Tweed Deluxe on "One Of These Nights" and "Hotel California", a Tweed Champ on "Victim Of Love", etc in the studio. He used an echo unit and BOSS chorus unit on "Hotel California". He usually used a Blackface Deluxe Reverb live in the 70s and a Tweed Deluxe. Nowadays he uses just a reissue Blackface Deluxe Reverb. In the HFO period he used a Fender Blues Deluxe model.

    Steuart:

Steuart uses a Peavey Classic 50 amp. He has a pedalboard with mostly BOSS effects but also a ProCo RAT and a Menatone Red Snapper.

    Bernie:

Bernie uses a Fender Silverface and Fender Tweed amp now with the Eagles. The classic recordings were some type of Fender amp, probably Silverface/Blackface.

    Bass Guitars

    Randy:

Randy used a Fender Precision Bass mostly with the Eagles but can also be seen with a Fender Jazz Bass, a Rickenbacker bass in the HC period, and also a Hagstrom bass. I'm not sure what bass he used on what song, but that's what he used. He mainly used Fender bass amps.

    Timothy:

Tim used and still uses a Fender Jazz Bass. He does have a Carvin bass as well but mostly uses the Jazz Bass. Like Randy, I'm not sure what he used in the studio but he mostly uses Jazz Basses live. He has a Sunburst, a Black, a Brown, and a White one. His Carvin basses are white and also sunburst. He also has used a Pedulla fretless Buzz Bass and Rob Allen fretless Bass. He uses a SWR Bass Amp and Cab.

    Signature Guitars Past and Present

Band: The band had a signature guitar series with Duesenberg both electric guitar and bass.

Glenn: Glenn has a signature model acoustic guitar with Takamine, the EF360GF. He previously had a signature model electric guitar with Rickenbacker.

Joe: Joe has a signature model Duesenberg out right now, similar to the Eagles signature guitar. Gibson Custom Shop did a small run of a replica of a 1960 Les Paul Burst that belonged to Joe.

Felder: Don had two signature small runs with Gibson's Custom Shop. They replicated his 1959 Les Paul Burst as well as his 1970s Gibson EDS-1275 doubleneck he used live on Hotel California.

Timothy: Timothy had a signature Carvin bass.

That's the Duesenberg (well one of them!).

It's called a Starplayer TV and it's the Ronnie Wood model.

Wow, Austin, a perfect thread, thank you!
As for Timothy, what I can add is that he plays also a Pedulla fretless Buzz bass, which can be seen at Melbourne gig during Boys of Summer. Personally, my favorite
Here is a photo of Timothy playing it:

I love that Les Paul! Joe's signature guitar!
People talking about us they got nothing else to do. When it all comes down we will still come through in the long run.

Good idea for a thread which perhaps should be in the Eagles forum unless you want to make it a broader based discussion of guitars?

Glenn has been playing a gold Duesenberg recently too (in fact you did mention this above). I hope you don't mind me posting this but I am very proud of this photo.

He has also been known to play an SG & an Explorer in recent years at Eagles shows.

Yes I'd like it to be Eagles centric - I was just afraid it'd be too off topic for that forum. Soda or anyone can feel free to move it.

That is a great pic of the Eagles (band) signature Duesy. It's in the pictures I posted above although it's just the guitar and not in a live environment.

Please feel free to post pictures of the guys with guitars, I just didn't have time to source a photo of each of them with each kind of guitar.

I believe Joe's guitar here is an Explorer, correct?
