Having someone else sing Glenn's songs (even if they sounded exactly like him) doesn't even begin to replace what they have lost.
No warm, gregarious host sets the stage for concert goers, interacts with all band members, or introduces backup musicians and lets them share applause. Glenn kept a watchful eye on all proceedings, signaled musicians or even the orchestra when necessary, and filled in with humor when there were technical issues. He told the familiar jokes everyone laughed and groaned at. He added spark with a wink, a grin, a funny face. It was his band.
Although they may sound good, it's the Muzak version. They didn't just lose a voice. "Elvis has left the building", and their Leader is gone.
I miss Timothy walking around the stage too. Standing next to Joe and the faces they made, or standing next to Steuart while he played the guitar solo in Tim's solo. Too many people on the stage now. I also don' care for the full orchestra, I think it takes away from the band.
As for Deacon, I think he's great kid and singing his Dad's songs has to be hard on him. It seems he was more Glenn's son and not Deacon. Going from singing at his Dad's Memorial to touring for months had to be hard on him plus the age difference. Maybe he wants some people his own age to be around at times. I think he has learned a lot about playing on stage and touring and he really stepped up. I hope he continues in music but at his own pace and singing what he wants to sing, he's very good.
I do think Joe really misses Glenn in fact when he plays Take it to the Limit in his solo shows you can see him wipeing away a tear or two.
Didn't the Eagles say they will play at the opening of Irving's new stadium in Coachella in August? or when ever it opens. You know Joe wouldn't say that without Don's approval. I'm sure Don and Irving discussed it.

Haha I love that. There is no denying those two had a friendship that lasted through the hardest times of the band, during the breakup, and until Glenn's dying day. There is no doubt in my mind that they stayed close, long after he separated from Don Henley and Don Felder in 1980.

I love that picture of Glenn and Joe. The expression on Glenn's face is hilarious even though it's not "funny" at all!

Haven't felt the need to post in this thread for quite some time but as a guitarist who is always keeping up with media intended for guitarists, I came across this chestnut of a line from a recent interview Vince Gill did.

The line I take issue with is as follows:

The Eagles guitar legend Vince Gill has revealed he once turned down Fender's offer to recreate his holy grail 1953 Telecaster....
    https://www.guitarworld.com/artists/...ture-prototype

No you don't.....no you damn sure don't say that exact phrase about Vince Gill, ever. He is not an "Eagles guitar legend".... I'd have no issue if they left off Eagles and just said guitar legend, although I don't personally consider Gill a legendary guitarist. Good, yes. Great, probably. But he's not on my Mount Rushmore of guitarists. I'd have an even easier time with "country music legend". That might be more fitting to be honest.

If you say Eagles guitar legend, you best be referring to Joe, Felder, Bernie, or Glenn. The ones who made the music, their guitar playing is associated solely or largely by the band and was their claim to fame and notoriety, and were in the legitimate band, in the trenches and did the work and didn't just get hand picked at the finish line to keep this cash cow rolling in dough for Messrs. Azoff and Henley without one of the two main figures and dare I say the leader of it all

This really chapped my behind and I really feel like this has reignited the anti-3.0 flame in my belly, a flame that had burnt out a couple years ago. I realize that this was the journalist's choice of words but it is just so undeserved and misplaced and really just grinds my gears. I'm sure Vince loved reading that. There was a reason he was so giddy to join this band. As big of a name he is in 80s/90s country, the Eagles are big period.

Austin - I definitely share your sentiments. As I always knew when they kept extending these shows, Vince has gone from a 'special guest' to a full-fledged Eagle. I'll never agree with the direction the band has taken since Glenn's passing. However, I have evolved from being extremely sad and angry to regretful acceptance. So again, I will never agree with their decision, but I know I can't change it. I describe myself in a perpetual eye-rolling phase.
