Here's my favorite Glenn songs from each Eagles album.

Eagles LP - Take It Easy

    Desperado - Tequila Sunrise

On The Border - Already Gone (I love the bit at the end when he says "alright nighty-night")

One Of These Nights - Lyin' Eyes (that "my oh my" gives me chills every time)

Hotel California - New Kid In Town

The Long Run - Heartache Tonight

Long Road Out Of Eden - tie between No More Cloudy Days and It's Your World Now (although the latter makes me bawl like a baby, it's still a beautiful song)

As I said in the Remembering thread, I find it hard to believe that five years have passed. I'd only been a hardcore fan for less than a year when Glenn died, but his death affected me like no other celebrity death has. I never ever thought that the death of a person I'd never met could affect me like his did. I went into a deep, depressive funk for well over a month. Eventually, I recovered and went on with my life. The Border was extremely helpful in doing that because I was among like minded people. I did have a silver lining in the end,, though. Glenn's passing made me realize just how much I was wasting my life away doing nothing, and it gave me the final push I needed to start going to college. (What a journey that has been!) These two lyrics have become my philosophy in many ways:

"So often times it happens that we live our lives in chains
And we never even know we have the key"- Already Gone (On the Border, 1974)

"People don't run out of dreams, People just run out of time"- River of Dreams (Strange Weather, 1992)

I decided to honor Glenn by naming my top ten favorite solo songs of his. I, like many others, feel that his solo material is vastly underrated.

    10. Partytown
    9. Strange Weather
    8. River of Dreams
    7. You Belong to the City
    6. The Heat is On
    5. I've Got Mine
    4. Call on Me
    3. Flip City
    2. Long Hot Summer
    1. Smuggler's Blues

Linda Ronstadt gave Glenn the nickname of the "Teen King" in the early days because of his talent for scoring with the younger ladies.

Before they decided on a name, the band referred to themselves as "Teen King and the Emergencies." Other names considered were "The Saltines" and "The Small Frey Dance Band." Thankfully, the Desperados came to their senses and decided on Eagles.

Throughout the years, the band had several nicknames for their fearless leader. Nicknames at various times included Roach (for when he was always bumming joints), Sporticus (for his obsession with sports), and the Lone Arranger (for his individualistic approach towards arrangement of Eagles music, preferring to work alone in the studio).

Around 1973/74, Glenn had a relationship with Joni Mitchell. Joni wrote the songs "Help Me" and "Car on a Hill" about Glenn.

Also, there has been a lot of speculation that Bob Seger's song "Still the Same" was written about Glenn, although I don't believe Bob ever confirmed it. However, the lyrics certainly fit.

Cameron Crowe does confirm that the character of Russell Hammond in his film "Almost Famous" is based on Glenn.

Hereís my list. I canít believe itís been 5 years. I was off 5 years ago when we were told he had died. Itís almost that time for when it was announced.

Eagles LP - Take It Easy

Desperado - Doolin Dalton (even though he shares lead with Don)
On the Border - Olí 55
One of These Nights - After the Thrill is Gone
Hotel California - New Kid in Town
The Long Run - Heartache Tonight
Long Road Out of Eden - What Do I Do With My Heart

    Brothers for life. RIP Glenn

I'm not sure I believe in fate, but I know that crossing paths with Glenn Lewis Frey in 1970 changed my life forever, and it eventually had an impact on the lives of millions of other people all over the planet. It will be very strange going forward in a world without him in it. But, I will be grateful, every day, that he was in my life. Rest in peace, my brother. You did what you set out to do, and then some." -Don Henley

As the 70's came to an end and the Eagles took a 14 year vacation, Glenn launched a very successful solo career in the 80's. Glenn had 6 solo songs that charted in the Billboard Top 20 ...

The One You Love - #15
    Sexy Girl - #20
    Smuggler's Blues - #12
The Heat Is On - #2
You Belong to the City - #2
    True Love - #13

Charting at #2, makes The Heat Is On and You Belong to the City the highest charting solo songs for any of the Eagles. Glenn had numerous other singles chart on the Billboard Top 100 and Adult Contemporary charts.

After the success of "The Heat Is On", Glenn was supposed to record "Shakedown" for the Beverly Hills Cop 2 soundtrack. However, he became ill and was unable to record it, so he handed it off to his good friend, Bob Seger. The song ended up going to #1. Tuff luck, Glenn!

With Glenn's initial success as a solo artist, he demonstrated an acting ability in his music videos. After the success of the Smuggler's Blues video in which Glenn won an MTV award for Best Concepts video, Miami Vice got Glenn on board to star in a Smuggler's Blues episode.

Once he completed that, Glenn decided to take on some other acting roles. His first film role was in Let's Get Harry in 1986.

Throughout the 80's and 90's, Glenn continued to take on occasional acting roles for television and film.

What's he doing?!' I see these people with the hamburger, man... You gotta get messy or it ain't no fun! It's just like makin' love!" (London 1973)
