    Default Favourite Live Tracks

I was listening to my live compilation disc this morning. I can never make up my mind which tracks I like best, ignoring the versions of Eagles songs which I have heard so often (although see below).

I am a sucker for the Royal Oak version of Some Kind Of Wonderful where he really 'tears it up' - especially the 'can I get a witness' chant near the end. Also, from the same show, Let The Good Times Roll, where he sings about his Citation 5 jet. Then there is I Hear You Knocking, which is so cool you could skate on it. I could go on.

The live version of Desperado from Casino Rama is to my mind becoming the definitive version (what a relief to be able to say that). It's sung in the most beautiful, heartfelt way without unnecessary histrionics.

I haven't heard most of these - although I want to badly!

I agree about Desperado from Casino Rama being magnificent. I think I'll put it up one of these days as the audio download of the week. Regarding other songs, I know not everyone agrees, but my favorite version of Smuggler's Blues is when he does it old school in San Diego 1985. And I love YBTTC in Christchurch 1994.

You will have Royal Oak soon so you can decide for yourself.... I was thinking more of audio tracks than DVD moments, although I agree YBTTC from CHC takes some beating. If I were to try and select my favourite DVD track it would be almost impossible, although NMCD from F1 is extremely special.

I know you were thinking in terms of audio, but a lot of times I rip the audio from these videos and play it as a CD. Even then, I'm struck by them.

Well, we can also talk about favourite live DVD tracks. On Eagleland a topic has been started about TGFY. This is one of Glenn's best performances, in my opinion, not just his voice, but the way he moves, stands, and just immerses himself in the song.

I was watching some of F1 on Christmas night and yet again I was struck by his charisma in Already Gone. It's perfect.

I agree. That's why I was surprised when you said you didn't think he liked the song. He's just so passionate and into it.

I love him on Already Gone. New Kid in Town is also terrific. He just seems to give it his all, especially the bridge.

I agree with Freypower about Glenn's performance of TGFY. Personally, I think Glenn is the one who performs the most out of the group. Joe is in a class all his own , but Glenn really gets into the soulfulness of each song, in my opinion.

I love NMCD from F1 as well. Its very special - and I wasn't even there!

Slightly off topic, but it's also very apparent that he gets into everyone else's songs as well. I just love to watch him singing along - he just can't help it as a true musician.

It's true he gives the more powerful performances, but I think he almost is doing it for himself rather than the audience. I think that's what makes it fun for him.

    Totally! It's fascinating to watch.

You are all so correct about why Glenn is such a great performer. He really gets into it, not just his own, but the other members' songs. Two other perfect examples are Funk #49 and OOTN in F1 where I think he steals the show.

Re NMCD, it was nice to be there! It was a privilege, in fact.
