OK, seems the consensus is I am being too sensitive - no surprise, I'm a Cancer. And, I don't like it if anyone even looks sideways at our sweet boy who sings it high and plays it low! I think maybe Soda is right in that Glenn was implying that Timothy's talent wasn't being maximized or appreciated in Poco - that's a more positive spin.
Mary, I totally agree with you on this. I noticed it the first time I watched the movie on Showtime...It bothered me so much!!! Timothy was mentioned so little in the documentary & the one thing Glenn has to say about him was just MEAN, & NASTY & some of it wasn't even true (as in him being in Poco for 11 years) I believe it was 7 years, but aside from that Poco was not such an unsuccessful band. They were much more successful than either Don's Shilo or Glenn's Pennywhistle band....The whole thing really pissed me off. Poco was an awesome band & obviously Glenn knew that or he wouldn't have invited Timothy into the Eagles with no audition, or even to play with them first....![]()
First of all, I don't think Glenn had any idea of what Timothy was being paid...I don't think bands going around announcing their salaries. Who said he never got a raise? He wasn't in Poco for 11 years either, so I have no trust that what Glenn said about what Tim was making as true...To me the whole comment he made about Tim was disrespectful & just mean....
He could have said something like, We knew Tim from Poco & thought he would fit in really well with us, not the demeaning comments that he made...
As a fan of Poco & Timothy, I just couldn't even believe what I was hearing out of Glenn's mouth..
But, as usual, all the Glenn fans here don't see anything wrong with it???
He sings it high, he plays it low
It never even occurred to me that anyone would get their panties in a wad over such a statement ~ Don and Glenn were poor before hitting it big and it sounded like he was defending Tim to Irving and sympathizing with Tim's situation. It's not like he called Tim a loser or something, he had just finished complimenting him. The implication was that Tim had a right to be frustrated because he deserved more. Let's put it this way: I don't know about you, but I've seen people truly be 'MEAN & NASTY' and it doesn't look like that.

Well, even though I'm a rabid Glenn fan, I didn't take his comments about Tim being mean or nasty at all. I think he was just trying to tell the story of how it all came about. As someone mentioned, Glenn knew how good he was, that Poco wasn't really happening, and that Tim would be perfect for the band. He didn't even have to audition. To me, that's quite a compliment!
As far as Randy, I thought I remembered reading somewhere too that he really didn't like being in the spotlight. I also remember reading that he was missing his family, and being on the road constantly and never having time to go home could make you quite miserable. I think, maybe, the success just got to him and he couldn't take it anymore. Maybe, subconsciously, trying to get out of singing TITTL was a means to an end. Yes, they could have rewritten it in a lower key to make him more comfortable with singing it, but maybe, they didn't even think about that back in the day. And here is a band that has always been hell bent to make their songs sound as close to the original recordings as possible. This was a number one hit that the fans wanted to hear in all it's glory! We can't change it, the fans won't put up with that! I can understand the possible reasoning. And I think the only reason that Glenn does it now is that it was one of their most successful hits and he thinks the fans want to hear it now, regardless.
Lots of 'maybes' there. Just my thoughts. The thing is, we will probably really never know the truth. We can guess all we want, but what good does that do?
