The U.S. didn't get any of the 'glam rock' acts - not Slade, not T. Rex and not even that period of David Bowie. The costumes may have been a bit too 'camp' for some people. Slade's songs, great as they are, were probably too British. Sweet did have a couple of minor hits when they moved closer to 'rock' with Fox On The Run.

I've always like Sweet & Bowie and knew a couple of Marc Bolan & T. Rex and Slade (how can you not move when you hear Run Runaway?) but since I joined my Sweet board a few years ago, I've been given a whole new perspective on Glam & really appreciate they groups now along with Status Quo, Sparks, Suzy Quatro and a few more!!!

Status Quo were never really 'glam' though. They have always been a 12 bar boogie band. You will have to tell me which of their songs you are familiar with. They didn't really hit their peak until 1975 (the year I saw them).

2003 Billy Joel wins a Tony Award for the orchestration of his Broadway musical, "Movin' Out"

2007 George Michael was sentenced to 100 hours of community service and banned from driving for two years at Brent Magistrates court, north London. The 43-year-old who was arrested last October after being found slumped at the steering wheel of his car pleaded guilty to driving while unfit, blaming "tiredness and prescribed drugs" for the offence.

2008 Rolling Stone magazine published a list of the Top 50 guitar songs of all time. No.5 was ‘Brown Sugar’ by The Rolling Stones, No.4 , ‘You Really Got Me’ By The Kinks, No.3, ‘Crossroads’, by Cream, No.2 ‘Purple Haze’, by Jimi Hendrix and No.1 ‘Johnny B Goode’, Chuck Berry.

FP--I didn't mean glam so much as different kind of band. Along with The Rubettes and Showaddywaddy. The US just has never really embraced music that was not the norm so to speak. And how about Geordie, Siouxsie & The Banshees and Mud? Don't understand why none of the groups I mentioned weren't given a chance here.

As far as Status Quo--not a huge fan but like Rain, Wild Side of Life, Caroline & Break The Rules.
