You guys are killing me!!! What is so bad about King Of Hollywood? In my opinion (for what it's worth), KOH is one of the best songs on this album.

    SAVE KING OF HOLLYWOOD!!!

I vote for In The City.

King of Hollywood reminds me of my law firm days, brimming with ambition and motivation to make a positive impact on the world and realizing the Powers That Be would blunt my efforts at every turn unless I engaged in certain extracurricular activities. Nothing sexy, attractive or even remotely appealing about it. (Though it does prove slightly inspirational insofar as revvinging the fight-or-flight response and low-grade homicidal impulses.) In spite of the lyrics, I do not much care for the melody, either. It's one I always skipped - reads like a cheesy '80s song from a B-grade movie with the kitsch echo effects and useless repetition. By contrast, Those Shoes actually has the sexy undertone to it - the narrator acknowledges that she "gets whatever [she] choose[s]."

I vote for King of Hollywood.

(Cracks knuckles and goes to stand behind Those Shoes.)

But it is an Eagles song! The fantastic oohs and ah-ha's showcase the Eagles unique harmonies. I love the way the song starts with the DA-DA, DA-DA guitar chords. Joe's vocals are as good as he gets. Did I read here somewhere (from Mike, I think) that this vocal is the highest Joe ever wrote for himself? When the song reaches the point of that high note you are rooting for Joe to hit it, and he always does! The guitar solo is excellent and the gritty lyrics achieve their goal of making you feel how hard city life is.

On the other hand, King of Hollywood has that repetitive guitar work throughout so that after awhile it gets boring. I hate Glenn's vocals on this song, he's practically talking instead of singing, which leads to the fact that the song isn't very melodic. Granted, there is some good guitar work, but the song seems so long that it takes forever to get to it. Yes, it does a good job of depicting the seedy world of Hollywood, but I don't like "seedy" and I don't like feeling like I have to take a shower after I listen to a song.
